Geez ... sorry to say but you're a total dumbass at least do some research before posting rude comments , Istaria/Horizons is way older than WoW . + it's nowhere even nearly the same. Give it a chance before you go presuming things.

Considering the fact that it's really old, it's a great game and to answer the other questions, no it's not a free to play game, you pay to play, though it does have a free trial of 2 weeks.

Sadly, the combat still sucks. You know, pressing numbers and waiting for your character to kill the monster is just plain boring. Why not the normal combat system?

Man, if only the dragons were part of the free game, I'd play. It sounds awsome but so does WOW, Aion, and all the other P2P mmos. I'm just not enough of an MMO or one game player to really warrent spending a monthly fee to play a game. I'll stick with my barely touched Guild Wars, I guess. The only P2P MMO I might get is "The Old Republic" because I'm a huge Star Wars nerd :P

@kozas0 I read all the comments and it looked like no one replied to your questions... well if they did I hope Im not being redundant. In Istaria you can own land to build upon (homes, workplaces, lairs, storage areas etc), but only if you are paying subscription. And yes all quests are optional you can run around wherever you want with whomever, and when you die you do not lose experience, armor, items, anything except you gain a very short debuff which can be dispelled by eating most foods

It actually sorta is. There is a completely free mode, but limited to human only character and no plot of land...other than that, everything else is free. Then the 14 day trial (no plot of land), but can play as any character, but then you do need to pay. And then 15 dollars a month for the full features.

But there is a free mode, a bit limited though.

I really hate how you have to pay to play as a dragon. The dragon gameplay is the only reason I'd play, but I'm not paying monthly for a game. A cash shop might be different, and I'd even support, but I hate paying monthly...

Still, the dragon gameplay aspect seems pretty fun, I'd try it but I don't want to try- An then not have the money to continue playing later down the road. >.<

To continue... Both games have trial periods. I suggest you try them out, as this video doesn't do the game justice. That poor little Dragon is just a hatchling, and they are weaker than any of the other player races at that level. Subscriptions for both games are about $15 a month. Many others who play Horizons have also come back to Horizons because of the crafting and the community. Pardon me for sounding flippant, but I don't care if WoW has 11 million subscribers. Most are foul of mouth.

Yay! The rampant ignorance in some of these comments just makes me all kinds of twitchy. Neither WoW nor Istaria is free to play. Both were released within a year of each other. WoW = Nov 2004; Horizons = Dec 2003. Nothing fantasy is original., it's as old as humanity itself. I can't comment about WoW, as I haven't played it for long enough to comment. I made a charcacter, under a trial account, and that's as far as I got. Horizons, though, I've been playing for 2 years. It rocks. Play a Dragon!

Battle does start out quite simple, but as you adventure and complete quests you get more varied attacks. Ice breath, lightning breath and (I hear) some sort of acid breath, was it? Well, you get those later on. Also you get a range of spells and melee attacks with your claws. So though this battle might make it seem a tad unimpressive, this is only so because the player's hatchling is still rather new and lower levelled. Also, the battle music seems to have glitched. So that;s why. :)

Warcraft.. has been out way longer then WoW has.

WoW is based off that. Its original. Unlike all the F2P mmo's that r cheap rip offs of it.

The only original one is Maple story and its still a peice of shit.

Game is outdated now though, but at release it was good.

And any case...Warcraft took ideas from Warhammer and other games /books. It isn't exactly original. Though, World of Warcraft is a lot of fun, I played quite a while...it isn't original, though. They just made the game easy enough for a lot of people to play.

I remember how back in 2000 I was a devoted forum dweller for Horizons. The graphics that was promissed back them was that of Crysys quality... (the devs posted few mind blowing screenshots)

Of course it never happened - no freaken way any PC back them would support such quality engine for a MMO.

They also had this wild idea to replace "leveling" with aging and eventually dieing...

The game was suppose to be an EverQuest killer... Heh - this is all that remained....
