carlins was a great man no doubt " he worshipped the sun, thats why he could see it". basically he knew what was behind the scenes just like every politician, celebrity, bankster, and athlete etc. he just had the courage to tell the public. these societies are distroying the world. basically what im saying is are you ready for the new world order......
he doesn't sound like an atheist, he sounds like a man who's dissapointed in the society and it's hypocrisy, and someone who was wandering to find the truth - too bad he never got to know the beauty of islam.. i'm sure he would fit in perfectly :/
@winterhearted1 Haha, islam is no different my friend. Same shit(and I have studied it). There is no beauty in Islam, but there is in spiritituality- and that comes in every form. As long as you can keep yourself, and not surrender to a thing, then it is o.k.
@winterhearted1 Stop being so deluded. Fuck, your religios is full of bullshit. Carlin was quite liberal. He believed in equal rights for all, including women and gays. He cared deeply about the effects of religion on the world and commented extensively on its bullshit. He didn't know much about Islam and so he didn't get to say so much about it, but let me tell you he knew it was all bullshit. Every bit of it is voodoo horseshit and Islam is no different. Carlin would despise it
He was not some intellectual geniuous. He was a man with big fucking balls :D and a great sence of humor, who saw things for what they are and was not a self centered person, like most famous people.
What....a great...great...great message from one of the greatest philosophers of our time....philosopher and comedian...George Carlin...RIP my frind..you have guided me!
I look at the Mass Effect games, and the megaman mythos, and....hope I live that long to see it happen. A wise man this Carlin. Figures I'm learning of this guy's brilliance AFTER the guy dies.
But he answers with the same meaningless junk that he so disdains...basically telling us there are no answers. Being cynical and realistic is no answer.
@rbcbertie There's a difference, if he was cynical to the bone, to the point where he wouldn't even care; would he have tried to reach out to an audience willing to hear his opinion and then encourage them to think it over for themselves?
I see Carlin a bit like a 20th-21st century-edition of Socrates, trying to make people come to their own "truth", and then putting it to the test..
The point where we go "there is no solution" comes, i believe, when you don't even share your point of view
He knows everything Population Expansion, Food Source are going down.Major Climate change, we just created a total mess in the name of Engineering and Technology. He knows Now we are in Kali Yuga major destruction gonna to happen..after several 100 years.
listen..i think allot of people..especially people who are bent on being succesful are consumed by the idea that we are living in a war zone..but a its possible to leave that behind actually not that hard at all. we can do it ass people to ..we realyy can. all it takes is the individaul choice to leave it behind...and of course technolgy can be an enourous help..so far weve been using crude technologies as we develop more refined ones, if we allow ourselves to...the world will get better and b..
That would also be the best surprise I could get too George, if only we humans weren't living in an illusional reality, which we are, but that doesn't matter, I wish whoever gave us our components for life in the future would show up again and shed light upon our view of this insane world we are entrapped in.
3:13 "Best surprise I could get" something about the way he says it with such hope really makes you believe in his optimism (even if it was shattered) I just want his dreams to come to so he could be happy after all :) Shame he's right and everything's shit.
the only thing i disagree with is technology. Technology (used INTELLIGENTLY) CAN be the solution to practical people problems. Check out The Venus Project with an open mind. I'm 63 and if I can accept something new so can u. The money system is broken and there's no more band aids in the box.
@horbergaren You're wrong about that. If you read his "Last Words", you'd see that he actually _wants_ people to laugh at the "serious" things he says, because in his view laughter represents a unique moment of openness and sincerity for people that gives him the chance to truly reach them.
@skyZZofreniKdesignS That is what these philosophers disguised as "comics" or "actors" or "musicians" do. They open our eyes by given it multiple angles to look at the world. Sometimes strange, sometimes scary but always better than the dogmas of the church.
I wish if I have known George Carlin before, I would have been going to all his speeches, I've only known him for less than a year, I've seen almost all his videos on youtube, he is the smartest person I've ever seen....
He's awesome, but I respectfully disagree. While I admit human behavior is disgusting, violent and greedy, there's still a great amount of good in a world that otherwise focuses on the negative. Technology, as Kurzweil predicted, can only help us in the future. But with great power comes great responsibility, so I can see where all the amazing technology in the future coming about will only be overused and abused. I hope, for the sake of all of us, Carlin is wrong.
@Petey0707 That's the thing right there. Predictions have and always will be a load of crap. Nobody can see into the future. Do you know how many people have 'predicted' the world to end and it never happens? How about Mike Tyson knocking out Buster Douglas? Brilliant scientists 'predicted' that some of us would be living on the moon right now. Hell, some of them even said Mars. He says he doesn't see a way out. Well, he can't see into the future. He's more realistic.
@MadLip78 Ah, touche, but I have to admit that even so the man has been quite accurate with his predictions on things like the internet, gps, wi-fi, etc.. decades before they were even conjured. Admittedly his predictions are very optimistic in comparison to others, but it's a nice thought in a world with a seemingly bleak existence. I'm not saying there's a way out, even if he does make these predictions such as nanobot technology and AI, humans will find a way to use these tools as weapons.
as many have noticed most audiences laugh when carlin talks this way, for they think its stil somedy, rather they should applaud until their hands go numb to this great intellectual who had the rightful courage to speak his mind, speak the truth, and inspire others, RIP George Carlin, you will be dearly missed,--- From a beloved student of your philosophy
How can somebody dislike this? No i mean seriously, HOW?! I want an explanation. Because i would like to see this ignorant dumbass that disliked this video, to explain to me how does he find this "unpleasant".
@Amprafel Believe it or not, but there are people who dislike Carlin for his views on Religion and his criticism towards US politics. So they probably thumb down just because it's him i suspect. The way of the narrowminded ignorant people are rather comical if you ask me.
they should not laugh in the end of that, they should applause. I think that might have been a problem for old George, he was a "funny man" and i think a lot of people see and saw him as a joke not to be taken seriously

@horbergaren I agree with you, but that audience was VERY young and perhaps a bit shell shocked after listening to him talk reality. Check out some of their faces 8/
@horbergaren For some (the ones with more willpower) , he was. In my opinion, he was aiming for those who are not tainted by pleasure. And even if he was not taken seriously, he at least managed to show people one way to tell them how fucked up our world is. By using entertainment, he managed to tell them. I don't think we can show our thoughts and opinions, even if these toughts are right and should actually be placed in peoples' heads... People actually don't give a shit about anyone.
You clearly don't understand what George Carlin does, then. He uses humor to get his point across. To get people to listen. He said something along the lines of "when you are laughing, you enter a state of zen in which ideas can freely enter the mind"
@horbergaren while i agree in general with what you say, i think that this audience (and it's a good thing the camera pans around a few times to catch their expressions) went there and listened to him, well, shall we say 'for the right reasons'... :)
and the speech is, of course, awesome as usual. good set-up question from the guy, too.

You clearly don't understand what George Carlin does, then. He uses humor to get his point across. To get people to listen. He said something along the lines of "when you are laughing, you enter a state of zen in which ideas can freely enter the mind"

@horbergaren
when dealing with these contraversial issues you'd better have some self-deprecating humor
Many comedians use self-deprecating humor to avoid seeming arrogant or pompous, and to help the audience identify with them
maybe he wanted people to start thinking for themselves about controversial issues instead of following him as some sort of leader of the people

It was funny because of how he said. But, they did applaud, the video was just cut.

@horbergaren people laugh at funerals sometimes because they can't handle grief...or handle it head on.
