  • Only 49 sweet, sweet seconds . . .

  • Hm, being a Pole myself I didn't know there are any viols here ;p (in use)

  • THAT IS A CELLO!!!!!!!!!!!ADUR!!!!!!DUHH!!!!

  • Nope Viola Da Gamba, look Six Strings !

  • wwooww

  • It is a viola da gamba. And just for the record, it is not related to the cello in any way. It is even constructed differently. Violas da gamba are more related to the guitar, or the vihuela than to any other instrument. The bowing technique is different too. Cello players bow with the palm facing down. Gambist with the palm facing up, and control the tension of the bow hair with their fingers. So there. Not a cello. Not even close. They don't even sound the same. Just for the record.

  • What is wrong with you folks? The bass viol is very much related to the 'cello, as any Venn-diagram would quickly illustrate--there is no need for me to elaborate here and the similarities are blatant. No, it is not part of the same _family_ of instruments, but to say they are not related in "any way" is a foolishly absolute statement. Furthermore, 'cellists _did_ bow underhand and many also played the viol; the overhand technique is the result of gradual dominance. Think before you speak.

  • @dolofonos they both have strings, that's their only relationship :-)

  • @yorkiesrule63 before calling other people names, whatever they are, get yourself some facts first, cuz that way you might avoid becoming the loser yourself.

  • Go to wikipedia and search for Viol

  • its a viola de gamba. its similar to the cello , but it has 6 strings and frets. it was used in the baroque period

  • It is a "viola da gamba". Do a little research. It is an old cousin to the cello. It is close; ill give you that.... even though its Not A Cello

  • @yorkiesrule63 Viola de Gamba has 6 or 7 strings. The violoncello only has 4. Also, the Viola de Gamba has tied gut frets and is played supported between the knees (hence the name), while the violoncello has a tail spike that rests on the ground and is stabilized by the knees while playing.

  • @yorkiesrule63 Cello has 4 strings... This is a VIOLA DA GAMBA, it has seven strings...

  • amazing.

  • Very nice :D
