im not saying i kno anythin of hunting or traps but when i look at that thing and the ones on that magic show i can almost c the animal trapped in it. i mean yea this one looks like it aint got teeth but some look painful and if u dont check them that means the animal would suffer for days if it broke its leg. i mean quick death and all is cool i gues i mean ppl need to eat and all but i just think of torture trying to get out of it. again i dont kno shit of traps and just giving my oppinion.

@solemshadow Traps with teeth are no longer used. The traps in the Penn & Teller trick are the old fashioned style and probably picked because they were large and scary looking. Most states have a 24 hour check law. In other words the traps have to be checked every day. Animals don't sit in traps for days at a time. If you read the negative comments on this page, you will see just how misinformed people are about trapping.

For all of you saying traps are inhumane, they really aren't the traps of the past were, with the big spikes and all that, you know the stereotypical ones, which is why they are banned now, I've put my hand in traps and I've seen people put they're hands in traps, the traps that are used nowadays for the most part only resptrain the animal, they don't hurt it. Without trapping small game would be overpopulated and would die a slow and painful death by starvation.

I've never seen a trap this up close before and had no idea that one jaw was that loose. How is this completely obvious unless you know something about traps?

Is it not possible to lift something off the trap without pushing down on the pan, to avoid setting it off?

If the pan tension is set tight enough, you could lift something off the pan and not set it off. But, that was their gag. To make it appear they are setting the trap off and not getting caught.

as long as you are lifting the trap wont fire. the pan tension Mr. reb talks about is how much force mst be put on the pan to make it move down and set off the trap. this is one way trappers can avoid small animals setting off larger traps and breaking legs.
