  • Their beard is pain in the ass. It's always dirty (especially after dinner) :)

  • such nice dogs!!

  • Not all of them obedient - my aunt's Giant is very independent :D But we love her, it's impossible not to love them. Especially when they act as puppies even though they're quite big :D

  • Love Schnauzers, miniature to giant.

  • I grew up w/a min. schnauzer, a superb dog. Years later, I bought a Std.Schnauzer, 2 yrs. old and a show dog. His grandfather was a national champion and his name was "Cato's Ruffian" (I thought Ruffian was a perfect name for a terrier, so I called him that or Ruff).

I want another Schnauzer, either a standard or a giant (I live in Phuket, Thailand and have a wonderful dog [looks like a small version of an Irish Wolfhound, named her "Ruffy,"]).Schnauers are intelligent, loyal + don't shed

  • i have an european variation ( origial one ) of the giant schnauzer and i love it. he is smart, energetic, and awsemly powerful! he has 45 kg, shorted tail, log ears, ( not cut ) . he saved me and 3 of my friends, fighting with a southern russian sheepdog, a medium spitz and a miniature schnauzer [ :) ] at the same time, and winning! his name is Hercules and he is for me the best dog in the world! :D

  • lol my mini schnauzer likes to think she's a giant :P

  • I have one and he's crazy ehehe

  • Greatest dog for the right person, You have to bring him/her up properly or they may run your life.....lol

  • Aww I have a miniature schnauzer a black one called milo and he looks like that one! :D

  • Giants are awesome dogs! Were vlogging our giants entire life starting this week

  • I have 5 giant schnauzers and I think your video is one of the best and true video i have seen so far.Awesome

  • Oww, I wish I spent more time with my Giant Schnauzer, we basically grew up together. I was too young to appriciate that and I grew used to it I guess.

  • is everybody nuts here? I have a Giant and he is the most wonderful dog, actually he is very well mannered, polite and a lots of fun.

well, besides that I do groom him myself, and he stands there in the yard for 1 hour and a half. he is 29 inches at the shoulders and weighs 94 pounds, and he speaks german and english. WOW!!!!

  • @304karli I had a miniature Schnauzer and he was the best dog I ever had. As you were saying your Giant would stand in the yard for 1 1/2 hrs. to be groomed. That is what my dog was like he would stand very still and just let me do my thing. When I trimmed his face he held his head high and very still. Now I have a Bichon Frise and she fights with me while I groom her, its awlful. I would love to hear your dog speak german/english. Awesome.

  • @brekanik This commenter is poorly mannered and is racist against Americans

  • @brekanik "Americans know nothing about grooming...." and you know nothing about manners, politeness or having humility! Please stay in your country, America has too many assholes like you!

  • Awesome dog and a very informative and well made video. Thank you for sharing.

  • I miss my friend, King. He had to go one year ago. 8,5 years old. If i get another dog, it will definitively be a giant, :) I´m sorry i didnt get puppies from him.

  • A GREAT breed.....not ideal for every owner.....please don't consider unless you can devote time to it's very developed intellect.....consider being an owner NOT for looks but for what you can bring out in the dog.....deserves time and attention !!!!!

  • The giant schnauzer is the best dog ever.R.I.P my Greta...:(

  • Giants are awesome dogs and do require lots of attention and grooming...They will get out of control if they are not properly trained...They are very loyal and loving...My Giant wants attention all the time and he is not happy unless he is right by my side touching me, lying next to me or in the same room with me...He goes everywhere with me and hates it when I leave him home...This is my favorite breed of Dog, and I would not have it any other way...I am prejudice when it comes to the Giant....

  • Im wanting to know more about Giant Schnauzers. Does anyone know if they make good protection canines? Like can they do bite work? I read they can tell between friend and foe and thats what im looking for in a dog. That and an althetic dog that likes to cuddle. lol. I've only seen a couple so tips and advice on the dog would be appeariciated. ANd how much DOES a HEALTHY Giant weigh, I couldnt find a wt range, but would like a bigger giant.

  • They are excellent guard and watchdogs, although many prefer other breeds due to schnauzers requiring a lot of coat care. They are not for first-time dog owners, so if that is the case, reconsider. They are incredibly loyal dogs and will do anything to protect his master and will even think twice about running free even if you were the one to let it off its leash. A dominating breed, you must show that you are master and not it so maybe not for you to sleep with as that is a submissive sign.

  • @FalloutRadius Well I dont think I'd have any problem with letting the dog know who boss. I have a Doberman who's very bold and fearless with stranger, he'll actually charge an unknown person. At the same time he is very submissive with me, if I say no he stops! And he's never growled at me even if I take something from him or put him on his side.

  • @nikigurl08 A dobermann, huh? My personal favorite. They are very intelligent like the schnauzer, so if that's the case I think the only problem you've got is grooming, which you said you would enjoy, so I don't see why not. Keep in mind though that schnauzers have herding blood in them, so they'll gnaw and nip on people as well as on your things if not properly socialized, but dobermanns do that too sometimes, so I think you'll do just fine. =]

  • @FalloutRadius Oh I'll probably have both! I love Doberman too! Their amazing dogs. The schnauzer seems so similar to the doberman except it hair! It you've ever seen a schnauzer stripped down they look just like a doberman except they dont have tan markings. I was blown away at how similar their builds are, they both have that barrel chest and high tuck up. Where I always imagine the schnauzer was a lot bigger in build like a Rottie.

  • @FalloutRadius On top of that I've restablished the peckin order with some very alpha dogs. Its was funny seeing how they'd growl as me but the moment I quickly got them on their side in the submission postion they put their tail down and didnt dare growl again. I actually like alpha personality dogs as their more fearless and I have no problem puttin my foot down. As far as grooming I actually want a dog I can learn to groom. I have a poodle I get a lot of compliment when I clip her.

  • This Giant looks like a mouse next to my Stepfathers Giant, she's huge.. And was also gotten full grown and does JUST perfect with children doesn't matter on age these dogs are loving animals I've worked with many before.

  • I've been thinking of getting one of these. Just doing more research right now though.

Has anyone here ever had one of these dogs with cats? What were they like with them if raised around them from a puppy?

  • @omgbabiesatemydingo We have had two giants. One was raised with a cat and they loved. One was from a rescue that we got at two years old and he hates cats. We have tried everything to make him like them but I guess once they hate them it is hard to break.

  • That are the "Porsche" of dogs ... I have had one til last year, he died in Age of 13 years ... I hope I can have such a fine dog again when I have more time ... greetings from Germany :)

  • oO'' It might just be me, but I think it'll look better if it was just all shaved off. I've seen schnauzers like that, and I thought they looked so handsome and smart. I believe they look much more alert and better groomed like that. That aside ><'' the poor dog needs to be able to see! Great dog though. 10/10 =) (thumbs up)

  • Lov ethem so much! :)) It is so true-they are very very gentle, intelligent and obedient and a real COMPANION, puttng their head on your lap, giving yo their paws on their own, even coming to you to apologize if they have done something wrong :)) At least mine isthat way and I love her so so much and miss her greatly coz I' in college and come home rarely...

  • I love the giant; they are a very intelligent, affectionate (and beautiful). My old girl is wonderful with little kids, but I don't trust her alone with small dogs because she wants to play and might accidentally hurt them.

As much as I love mine, when she was a puppy (and up until she was 6years old) she had a lot of energy and was hyper and had a REALLY loud bark.

Bit of a warning, they can be very domineering dogs, it's important to train them well and keep working with them constantly.

  • Wow, a lot of you pseudo-dog enthusiasts should stop bashing people for the way they groom their giants and how big they are. When I had a my giant he was 115lbs at his biggest and definitely not out of shape (if I'm correct the AKC standard is 90lbs for males though)... he was just a big brutish dog. As for the ear cropping that so many people have a problem with, yes in a sense it is inhumane, but our giant's ears were cropped right after birth and he was beautiful.

  • you need to cut that stupid bit of hair off over there eyes, dog cant see properly.

people care more about how thier dog looks than about its well being, its all wrong.

this woman clearly doesnt care that her dog has hair in its eyes as long as it looks the way she wants it, and these breeders call there selfs dog lovers

  • @thehomefront agree mate!

  • @MegaSlickz thank you

  • AWWWWWWWw

  • are these dogs extremly hyper? i use to have a mini and absoutely LOVED him. he had to get put down /: and my gma has his cousin and she isnt hyper unless you hype her up. same with my old mini. everywhere im reading about giants say theyre nothing like the minis and theyre reallllllllly hyper and energetic. is this true?

  • huge!!

  • I had one when I was younger, she was my best bud in the whole world. I miss you, Cleo!

  • i have a riesensnauzer, but mine is much cuter! My dog don't have so long beard or so weird eyebrows, and she is not so fat! this is a bad example ... just my opinion

  • I had Giant had her shipped from California to New York it was scared of everything Noise, lights , traffic, people.

  • @chaba49 Only you would buy a dog that looked like such a pussy. What ever happened to your rotweillers?

  • i have 3 :D.... a couple of years back we had 11 puppies:

  • I love schnauzers, They are Beautiful and loving!!!

  • It is not schnauSer ffs it is schnauzer! damn

  • Aha. They look like cossackes (ukrainian noble knights) (meaning the mustaches and chyub (the hair-cut)! Adorable!

  • omg that dog has a mustache lol and huge eye browes

  • It's amazing how they have 3 different sizes of Schnauzers; Miniature, Standard, and Giant. I know German Shepards are also bred to be police dogs in America as well.

  • How is it that this video received over 130 comments and a good 2/3 of the posters felt compelled to critique this Giant; it's weight; the grooming; the breeder; and on and on. Perhaps all of you perfect people should take your perfect dog and make your own video. Be sure to include you and your dog's weight and measurements. Then you could submit it to replace this one. Until then, perhaps you can find something better to do than be HATERS. Come on folks--it's just a video--you'll get over it.

  • @chantica02 I think the video is awesome...

  • @chantica02 Agreed. Thumbs up for all healthy animals and their loving owners.

  • Fat ugly looking Giant.. And a choke collar? Learn to train. All the owners fault. "Thanks for disgracing the breed.

  • That's not really for fun. (it need about 3 hours !)

This is a dog who use to live in cold countries. That's the first reason.

The second one is that the way those dogs are cut is in order to avoid skin deseases : they dont lose their hair.

Last one, they are really active and love to get in dirtiness or mud.

  • Do you realize that even dogs are fat in north america? look at that poor animal. I love reiesenschnauzer, they are massive and sweet at the same time.

  • thats not a giant schnauzer

  • lol your a retard

  • That is NOT a standard schnauzer in the video: look at the build of the head and the body - its a small Giant.

  • Yup..its a female and they tend to be smaller.

  • I have a miniature her name is pepper she is very smart and fast, mine don't smell bad at all, I give her baths once a week, and brush her teeth one every 2 weeks

  • its a standard schnauzer and omg CUT ITS HAIR..!! it ridiculously long.! and it ruining the schnauzer classic hair cut

  • lol

  • the american kennel club recognizes three types of schnauzers: miniature, standard, and giant, and I believe each has their own personality and temperament. Just because you like one type does not mean that they are all the same. I have a male that is about 95-100 pounds and I think that is about average for this breed.

  • I live in the panhandle of Idaho. Can anyone tell me if there is a Giant Schnauzer breeder near me?

  • i have a miniature schnauzer named Nikki. She is so cute and wonderful even if she is a bit stinky :)

  • maybe its a standered schnazer

  • then its a standard lol

  • there are just 3 kinds of this dog

    miniature

medium and <-- you are here

    high

  • we have 7 shnauzers and one golden retreiver lol. how much would one of these cost?

  • I have 5 schnauzer, my favorites friends!

  • man i love schnauzers!!!!!! i have a miniature one he is so playfull

  • the schnauzer is my favorite breed. i dont care if they are miniature, standar or giant. i love thm.

  • @gamerzone360 oh me too! i love them. i have three miniatures but two of them, the males, are sort of bigger than the usual minis are. i love them all ... they are 14 years old this year and i cant imagine not having them around but know ill face it one day. sad. but i love the breed they are just wonderful.

  • @baconrocks1 yeha, it´s horrible to lose this cute friends. i experienced it years ago but the only important thing is the future. enjoy and love them! :D

  • @gamerzone360 thank you, i do enjoy them very much. such personalities!

  • Australians have slightly different rules for grooming schnauzers. His grooming looks like a mini, but his brows are cut ?

Luv giants - they are sooo gentle

  • *cough* fu

  • miniature schnauzers are really playful

  • oops I need to brush my schnauzer more often then...even though its only a mini

  • The cleverest, courageous, cheerful, delicate, most best dogs

  • Schnauzers rule!! I have a mini but we're going to get a giant in a year when we have our first child. :D

  • xxblue molests collies

  • HA Schnauzer makes me think of noses xD

  • This Schnauzer is way overweighed!

  • Better hope he isn't a show breed. Or else better Jenny Canine.

  • they are so cute!!!!

  • I have a mini schnauzer and I love her to death.

  • I love these dogs, I want one so bad!

  • in what colours does it come?

  • Solid black or Salt & Pepper =)

  • only black;)

  • longlivewhites: Not true at all. We have a salt and pepper giant.

  • Comment removed

  • No, You don't know much about the Schnauzer breed then. Salt & pepper can be seen in Giant Schnauzers as well. Here is a quote about the Giant Schnauzer breed standard - "The color of the coat is either salt and pepper or pure black. " As well as the Standard Schnauzer. Miniature Schnauzers can come in quote "The recognized colors are salt and pepper, black and silver and solid black. All colors have uniform skin pigmentation, no white or pink skin patches shall appear anywhere on the dog."

  • Simpli, Your simple view of breeders can't be fixed. You are naturally limited in your capability to think outside of the box because your father, an imbecile, was bred to your mother, a moron, and therefore you can only think in emotional tones that have no relationship to rationality. Responsible breeders promote their their dog's health due to their enormous dedication to the breed. I would go further in describing how this works but your limited mental capacity makes it a useless endeavor.

  • why is that dog's stomach hanging down LOL?

  • Its the coat.

  • I think you'll find it's the way the coat has been cropped

  • rottweilers or bullmastiffs or pittbulls or american staffys or akietas r the most dangerous

  • they are not dangerous dogs, it all depends on the owner,,

  • i have qa mini she is so cute oh and she is my profile pic k C ya

  • Here is the problem, and I don't see how any logical mind could object to this point: Any dog, and I mean any dog can get old, sick, whatever, and then a good dog can bite. I've watched a good dog get a bit old, a bit sore (don't blame the dog) and become a biter. So, the question is, do you want one that could break the skin, maybe hurt a finger? Or do you want a "Giant" anything that could kill somebody?

  • i have two purebread minis, but one of them is a throwback to standard

  • gorgeous dog! I have two mini's and have thought about getting a standard

  • DO NOT get a Standard Schnauzer. I have all three sizes, and the standards are the WORST of them. They were bred to be rat-hunters, and are of little use otherwise. They are very barky, stubborn, and runners as-well. If you want another, get a Giant, they are the best dogs you will ever own, This video is actually a horrible label for a Giant. They are magestic beasts, they love children, are easy to train, and care for their families above themselves. They also make great guard dogs.

  • mine is in between a standard and a minituare and he does not run away and doesn't bark and is a great dog i'd get another schnauzer

  • My Mini is great, My standard is horrible.

Because you have a cross between the two he probably lacks more of the genes for the ratting and running characteristic of a standard. Minis are just not built to run, and its not in their blood, so be careful when choosing.

  • mine is not a purebred he is a schnauzer/terrier mix he has the face of a schnauzer and the body of a terrier

  • Well whatever you find works for your lifestyle, just remember, steer clear of the standards, mine is pure bred, champion bloodlines, and is the stupidest excuse for a dog Ive ever seen, he jumped down the hole into the basement before the stairs were put in, yah, genius dogs.

  • i have a Standard Schnauzer and she is not like what you said at all. She does not bark

  • Ok, not every dog in the entire world matches my description of a breed. However, Standards were originally bred to be ratting dogs, a mix between the miniature - for its fiesty nature, and a giant - for its size. SO naturally ,Standard schnauzers are originally SUPPOSED to be, hyperactive, fast, and noisy, to fulfill its purpose in life - to destroy rodents. Which also brings me back to DOGS BEING BRED TO WHAT YOU WANT THEM TO BE.

  • the Standard is the original breed, hints the name "Standard". The other two breeds were based off of the Standard Schnauzer, you can read this info right on the AKC website. Standard's were also breed to be guard dogs. Particullarly they were good at guarding carts of those going to the market. Today Standards and Giants are in the Working Cat. of AKC breeds. They make excellent police dogs, and are still used in Europe for such work today.

  • I love your dog series. Really helpful in making a choice.

  • Giants are groomed differently in US and Europe. Being swedish I much prefer how we groom here. Don't know why I care but it bugs me when I read or hear about giants "only" being family pets needing a couple of walks a day. Giants are high energy dogs and working dogs. This breed needs mental and physical stimulation. Otherwise they entertain themselves. And they are not stupid... Love this breed, but I thought the giant in the video looked post-pregnant ;)

  • Exactly my opinion! Schnauzers are working dogs, hard and intelligent dogs. Who wants just a spolied family dog?

  • Giants will make themselves whatever YOU want them to be. As long as they have a home, a loving family and the necessities, they will bend head over heels to please you.

  • @thedude2285

A Giant Schnauzer is a tough, rustic working breed, a farm dog by origin. To keep and style a Giant Schnauzer like a gay poodle is an abuse and an insult of this dog.

  • I never said any of that, and if having a dog that only works to please its owner, to make its FAMILY happy and safe - makes it a gay poodle, than 99% of people in the world want and own gay poodles.

  • @thedude2285

And this alleged 99% of people are abusing and ruining more or less all breeds. Look today at Rottweiler, Dobermann, German Sheperd and so on and compare it with the quality this breeds have had until few decades ago. Many dog breeds today are just a shadow of their former self, ruined in health, character and performance. Owners and breeders have sinned against their dogs.

  • Their former selves?!!?!?!? You mean the matted workhorses that lived to be half their normal age from overwork, lack of knowledge, lack of veterinary skills, etc. !? THAT is abuse, you and I will never see eye to eye on this, but your idea of abuse is totally wrong. Making an animals sole object of exitance to care for its family, to guard, and to be a dog, is NOT abuse. Dogs were not put onto this planet to be tied up, carted, made to work for humans, or do anything humanly meaningful!

  • @thedude2285

You are the type who owns dogs just for show and prestige, not me. Working breeds like giant schnauzers need an exercise and a task to enjoy their life. Everybody who has ever worked together with dogs, as a partner and with mutual comprehension, knows that. Everything else is just an abuse and a cruelty for this breeds. You have no notion about dogs and I feel sorry for the dogs what have to suffer from your ignorance.

  • No, I am the type of person who takes in magnificent breeds and trains them to be family dogs. I never said they dont need exercise, of course they do! Quit putting words in my mouth! I have EXCEEDING notion about dogs , thank you very much, And if I know so little, if I own dogs for SHOW (as you again, came to your own conclusion about) How do you justify that I- being capable to successfully show and make a dog prestige, also manage to know NOTHING about dogs?!?! Quit contridicting yourself.

  • @thedude2285

There is absolutely no contradiction in my statement. Because the look says not much about the quality of a dog. Since decades the SHOW breeders and owners are ruining the breeds by producing dogs what are good looking, but being ILL, MENTALLY WEAK and INCAPABLE to achieve any performance anymore. That is why many breeds today are just a shadow of their former self.

  • you sound like every other runty little over compensating wind bag. i bet you drive a big sports car or monster truck, wear to much cologne, walk around bragging about some kid you beat up in the third grade....

  • @bearshaman0

You are the type who owns dogs just for show and prestige, not me. Working breeds like giant schnauzers need an exercise and a task to enjoy their life. Everybody who has ever worked together with dogs, as a partner and with mutual comprehension, knows that. Everything else is just an abuse and a cruelty for this breeds. You have no notion about dogs and I feel sorry for the dogs what have to suffer from your ignorance.

  • My giant is not very high energy. We adopted him from a rescue organization. I think his previous owners kept him in cage most of the time. Our previous giant schnauzer was very high energy. We did not buy these dogs for working dogs they were purchased as family pets "ONLY". Isn't that what most people buy dogs for? No one said they were stupid. They are very intelligent dogs.

  • I miss my Giant, Cleo...:( She was supurb! Loved her to pieces.

  • This schnauzer is not all that fat. Some of it is his undercoating. Giant schnauzers have a TON of energy. Ours gets walked 3 miles every morning. If he doesn't get walked he is into everything. Our first one we got from Skansen Kennels as a puppy. You could not ask for a better dog after she grew up. Our second one we got from a rescue organization and he is a handful. They are very protective dogs and not good with kids unless they are raised with them.

  • Thats absolutely ridiculous. It is expected that the rescue pup differs from the non-tramatized dog, but as for being bad with children- You paint them to be school-raiders! Giant Schnauzers , if raised with a select few, (say male adults) become very attatched, and protective over its owner, and will put itself in the way to protect him. If you suddenly take him out of that environment, if he feels threatened, hewill do what he feels to protect his owner at ALL costs. It all depends on training

  • I had a SKansen dog many, many years ago. I LOVED her, possibly the best dog I ever had. I would totally get another one, except I would prefer a smaller dog in my older years! :) I also had a Skansen Dobe at the same time and we also got a Bouvier des FLanders. I loved all of them but I think the Schnautzer was my fav! Bless them all!

  • i might be getting a giant right now i have a minature:)

  • Thats a rly fat one, the haircut is a bit wrong imo and why cut the tail of? doesnt look very good.. my mom used to breed giant schnauzers and im getting my own one next time we have puppies :P

  • Actually the Hair Cut is correct. I suggest that you check the Giant Schnauzer Clubs website. Many people think that the "Schnauzer Cut" is a skirt, which it is not it is a continuation of the body lines.

Did you also know that the proper way to groom any Schnauzer is by hand stripping the hair..... No Scissors... and by the way the tail is cut because it has been cut on this breed for hundreds of years. People don't get that almost 90% of dogs were bred for a purpose.

  • Is the beard trimmed right for USA? I'm in australia and have had a mini and now a standard. I've seen a giant and don't remember it being trimmed differently. I have never seen the beard shaved under the eys like that, or the eyebrows on a curve.

  • No kennel club or breed club I knows sets an EXACT way for eyebrows to be trimmed. Most ask for them to be grown out and cut on a diagonal (outside of eye to opposite corner of nose) but mention that eyebrow cuts are determined by the breeder and any cut is fine as long as it does not detract from the overall rectangular appearance of the head. Pet groomers obviously just do whatever they think is best at the time - few have breed specific training.

  • As for beards: its typical to NEVER cut them. But, again, long beards can be an annoyance to pet owners(they get into wet food, and carry water away from the bowl) so a pet owner might choose to trim their dogs beard.

  • gran perro

  • excelnet manera de describir al schnauzer gigante

  • qe bonitooooooooooooooooooooooooo el perrooo

  • whaoooo que perro mas hermoso, muy buena raza de perro me encantan los schnauzer pero en especial los miniatura jejeje

  • Lol. I agree. I've been reading up on the GS and was surprised by the description she gave of the GS, but then again, she is more than likely trying to sell the dog than explain its history and temperament.

  • sorry,... i come from bavaria, the mentioned part of germany, and this is not a typical bavarian dog! :) nevertheless my parents had one many years ago and when i see pictures of our beloved giant schnauzer i can say, that this dog looks not more than ordinary... nothing special!! this one has a very bad poise, the fur looks quite scruffy and it's also too long...

anyway, schnauzer are one of the best dogs you can imagine... brave, loyal and also a excellent family dog!!
