i can say it because he's obviously trained and there are MILLIONS of trained singers that sing flawlessly. Because that is their job, to sing flawlessly.... like a drummer can play his songs perfectly because that is whats expected within the band that he plays in. The problem is that youve been listening to to many singers that are not trained, do not know the first thing about singing and do not pull apart the vocal line (when learning the song) to root out any problems. Well. of course he sang cover songs when he participated in idol. I haven't seen many participants in idol around the world singing their own songs there. The whole concept is to sing songs from other artists on IDOL. Guess what, he writes his own music. He did it before idol (with his bands Breed and Fenrik Lane) and on his solo-albums he has written almost every song himself (which is 4 albums).. You need to update yourself ;)

It was the song chosen for the final two contestants to sing in the final of Norwegian Idol in 2003 and subsequently released as a single- which became the biggest selling single in Norway! It is written by Tal Bachman, a Canadian. I think this version by Kurt hit the number 25 spot on the UK charts in May 2004

Yes! That's what I think in any of the versions I've heard sing of this song. The Bachman version is all I heard here in the US and thought it was ok, but not a favorite of mine. The indication of such wonderful talent is to be able to vary the song and have it sound better than the original, never "canned." When Kurt sings it, it seems more masculine and appealing to me. Thanks to Bachman for writing it though!
