5 people dont have any ears.seasons end was such a relief after fish left,to bring an album out with such enduring songs was genious as all marillion albums are.
One of the most beautiful songs ever written. The lyrics are fantastic, they just bring up a lot of emotions when being listened to. This is why I fucking love Marillion.
@MrLegion2407 good point very well put. I have now turned more a Marillion / H fan as oppossed to a Marillion / Fish fan (although i am a massive fan of both) - that was unthinkable previously.......?!! Whilst we mere mortal fans spent years mourning the loss of Fish, Marillion went on to make some astounding music.......you just gotta love them
This song was originally recorded with Fish still in the band....one last attempt I guess! The lyrics and song title were different however as with other songs: "Story From A Thin Wall" became "Berlin" And this if I'm not misttaken was "Tic Tac Toe"...again with Fish still in the band. Fish's first solo album had some reworks from the last recording session as well. They can be found on the remaster of "Clutching At Straws". Alot of these recordings are raw...but still superb!
@MeleeStormbringer you sum up the problem Marillion have. I had never heard Marillion without Fish until 6 months ago - refused to listen. Now i am their number one fan...........you gotta listen - try Neverland - if that does not impress you then i give up gracefully (believing you are wrong) - please let me know how you get on. Cheers.
Will everyone just shut up about steve H versus Fish. They are both great rock stars. They just have different styles.Fish and marillion going their seperate ways was good for Fish and Marillion. They both developed their own styles after the split.Fish and Steve H are both great. P.S. I had a drink with fish in Dublin before the 13th star gig.
My friend took a trip to London (from these Appalachian Mts)... had a few drinks in some Soho bar w/ Fish & Roy Buchanan (I think it was). He found Fish a bit headstrong and pushy, said he didn't like him much actually! 1984 I think it was. At the time I knew of Fish and Marillion only by name, hadn't heard any music.
They played the whole Seasons End album on the opening night last Friday on the Marillion Weekend 2009 - including After Me - Soooooooo cool. I can't describe the feeling.
Everything Hogarth did for the Season's End album was so great. At that point, I thought great music was multiplied by 2. Fish did great things, Marillion did great things. So my pleasure was doubled. But soon after "Season's End" and "Vigil", things went down very quickly... :(
they had there ups and downs, but i think that marbles, brave and afraid of sunlight were some of their best albums....theres something good about every album they produced (which is why their my fav.) so don't be so quick to say things went downhill quickly...cause they certainly bounced back strongly
this was an extrabonus from the album seasons end, i just recall that i had on on tape,, je. you remember them..? the sound was nice but regretfully the cint broke and after that things change and you all know that..
good job and its really nice to hear this tune after many many years... thank you very much marillion4ever.!!!
I love this number so much. If I look at my Mp3 player, and I c all the cd's I have from Marillion, and dont know what song to listen most of the time I press After Me. Great vocals, guitarwork of Rothery, its just Genius!
oh witch i think is best, thats hard to say, in my opinion, from the fish time, I still think that script for a jesters tear is the best album, because i love the purity of progressive rock, thats in those songs. But if I look to hogarth time, i think Brave is for me the best, because i love that it has a great story, but induvidualy i like the cd Seasons End:) Sorry cant tell my 1 and only favorite cd:D
I prefer Hogarth over Fish but H was in place when I started buying their stuff. But to answer the question, I think Marbles is probably my fav. Thanks for posting the tune. More people should hear what they are missing!

Uwielbiam ten utwór-zamykam oczy i odpływam. Uwielbiam za głos, melodykę, klimat... Marillion sprawia, ze czuję, ze świat nie jest do końca zły.

I'm always so sad that this beautiful and powerful song ends just after 3 minutes...way too short!

"Story From a Thin Wall" evolved into "Family Business" on Fish's "Vigil In A Wilderness Of Mirrors."

I'm a Fish fan and I won't deny that I hate Marillion without him. But this song is so beautiful. Hogarth is a great singer. He's just not Fish.

@JohnKricfalusi666 I agree. Both H. and Fish are OK in my book.
My friend took a trip to London (from these Appalachian Mts)... had a few drinks in some Soho bar w/ Fish & Roy Buchanan (I think it was). Should be re-released as a single. Amazing track, amazing guitar work, amazing lyrics; xylophone sequence (01:22) blows my mind.
Nothing beats classic rock.
