  • Well...An Unearthly Child is a brilliant episode and the first 1 ever as is the Daleks (dubuting, er, the Daleks). the Dalek Invasion of Earth. Tomb of the Cybermen, the War Games, Spearhead from space, Planet of the Spiders, Robot, Genesis of the Daleks, Pyramids of Mars, City of Death, Caves of Androzani, Remembrance of the Daleks, Battlefield, Curse of Fenric

  • for a nice piece of sontaran history featuring the 2nd AND 6th doctors, watch The Two Doctors :D

  • TOMBS OF THE CYBERMEN!

  • Patrick Troughton (2nd Doctor) - Tomb of the Cybermen

Colin Baker (6th Doctor) - Vengeance on Varos

  • you should definetly start with the tom baker series a person here on you tube that goes by the user name orderwho has all the classic episodes uploaded here on you tube.

  • The Curse of Fenric

    The Ark in Space

    (are my favourite stories)

I'd stick with early Tom Baker to start with. This is where the archetypal Doctor comes from (and you could argue that Sarah Jane is the archetypal companion). There was a surge of good story after good story for the first few Tom Baker seasons. I don't think it's ever been bettered since that era (new series included).

  • OK, heres a few to start with.

Tom Baker - Genesis of the Daleks / The Deadly Assassin / The seeds of doom / The keeper of Traken / The brain of morbius / The talons of Weng Chiang

Peter Davison - Earthshock / The Caves of Androzani / The five doctors

Jon Pertwee - The 3 doctors / Inferno

  • Most people say that the best troughton serial is tomb of the cybermen but my personal favourite from the troughton era is the mind robber. It's on dailymotion in ten minute parts. The war games is also very good.

  • Are the originals not called seasons? I always thought it was like they called the 2005 restart the "series'" so that we could differentiate between the seasons and the series'?

Just wondering, I could easily be wrong :)

  • have to say any tom baker is good but then you not going to get tosee every ep of old doctor as the first one are ether gone or rare than a rare thing

  • we all have the time ha PBS showed them every saturday one whole show no matter how long, so yea wed watch the new ones and one of the old ones, it only takes like 3 years to go threw them all LOL i think thats how long its been. PBS is weird lol

  • Are you an angel?

  • From the 7th Doctor era I would recommend Rememerance of th Daleks, Battlefield and Curse of Fenric.

  • how about the first story, a unearthly child, featuring the original doctor(william hartnell), his granddaughter susan(carole ann ford), schoolteachers ian chesterton(william russell) and barbara wright(jaqueline hill). the one that was broadcast, not the original pilot. doctor who was funnier in the broadcast pilot.

  • Try Genesis of the Daleks - pretty good

  • My word, this is what we've been waiting for, the dialogue between the generations of Who, indeed, if we can sort this out, there might be hope for peace across the whole of humanity.

I'd like to know what you watched - oh, the video's exactly a year old!, maybe you should follow up on this. But I would say this: you HAVE got time to watch them all, I've done it, and its worth it. If you're going to be a fan, you have to put the hours in. And I recommend starting at the beginning!

  • I know this was nearly a year ago, but i strongly recommend The Caves of Androzani. Peter Davison's last story and probably the best classic series story.

  • From the McCoy era, I would reccomend Ghost Light. ( Season 26 - 1989 ) I think that if it had today's effects and investment that this would have been truely great. But I think it's good anyway. : )

Gwendoline : "Sir, I think Mr Matthews is confused."

The Doctor : "Never mind. I'll have him completely bewildered by the time I'm finished. "

  • I'm not going to help you watch the sad-excuse of a show that they call Doctor Who. Watch my reviews/interpretations of the latest episodes!

  • @LegoDaleks Can't you just let people enjoy something even if you don't?

  • Dailymotion should have them all.

  • Classic Doctor Who can be rented and streamed on Netflix, you can also find some on Youtube. Try The Unearthyly Child (the very first Doctor Who episode and it's great, the Daleks are there too) Inferno, Ark In Space, The Robots of Death, The Sontaran Experiment, Tomb of the Cybermen. I'm mainly giving Tom Baker's because he's closer to what being done with the Doctor now performance wise. This probably make me sound old but I'm 26, I'm catching up on the old ones while I work on a comic

  • uhhhh sweetheart even if we did know a centrel codex of all the old series I can tell from your accent that you are american your country and great britain run on a differnt bandwidth which mean's most old doctor who vids still run the british bandwidth so if we could find the episodes they would be unable to play in america unless you changed your area code

  • @MilliwaysCarPark I don't mean to sound rude, but there's no such thing as "British" or "American" bandwidth. Things like the iPlayer don't work in the US because the BBC looks up where you've connected to the internet (as best they can), and blocks connections to that service from outside the UK. There's no technical reason it can't work -- they just choose to reject folks from abroad. Probably something to do with television licenses.

  • You definitely have to see the original serial of the Daleks. To me, it really explains alot about how they came to be. Also, Tomb of the Cybermen, Frontier in Space with Planet of the Daleks and the City of Death and the Pirate Planet. I really like all of those. : )

  • Their are about 6 or 7 serials on youtubes "TV" feature that are free to watch. From them I recommend The Masque of Mandragora. I really shows the best side of Bakers doctor. The other episode I reccomend which is on Youtube is The Caves of Androzani. It's considerd the best Who episode of all time, it beat Blink to the top spot.

I also reccomend the five doctors which came from an era when the writing hadn't turned to complete shit and shows of all the first five Doctors pretty well.

  • I also hope you comment on what classic episodes you did see, and your thoughts on them...as well as the Doctors themselves.

  • Davison:Castrovalva, Arc of Infinity, TimeFlight, Planet of Evil, Earthshock, The Caves of Androzani

C.Baker:The Twin Dilemma, Attack of the Cybermen, The Two Doctors, The Ultimate Foe (Part 4 of the Trial of a Time Lord series)

McCoy:Remembrance of the Daleks, Time and the Rani

McGann:The TV Movie. He also did an audio of the episode Shada with Lalla Ward (an unfinished story from the Tom Baker era) But with McGann the bulk of his adventures are in book or audio form.

  • Another thing you can explore is Big Finish Audio. They do Doctor Who audio adventures. Many with the Eighth Doctor as well as Doctors 5,6 and 7.

    As for adventures:

Hartnell:The Daleks, The Dalek Invasion of Earth, The Dalek Masterlan (possibly available from BBC Audio.

Troughton:Tomb of The Cybermen, The Invasion, The War Games.

Pertwee:The Three Doctors, Day of the Daleks, the Curse of Peladon

    T. Baker:Genesis of the Daleks, The Pirate Planet, The Deadly Assassin

    To be continued

  • First Doctor .

An unearthly child ( where it all started of course)

    second Doctor

Tomb of the Cybermen (Classic story )

    Third Doctor .

Inferno (is good yes as some one else has said )

Spearhead from space , (if you what something shorter) being shot all on film , it has a much tighter edit and pace to it than later Pertwee episodes.

Terror of the Autons (first ever Master story ).

  • Dcotor Who Inferno is my favourite.

  • The Mind Robber is my personal favourite, Patrick Troughton, and it's such craziness in a funny but still awesome way. Genesis of the Daleks is very highly rated, I definitely recommend The Three Doctors and the Five Doctors, and I know The Caves Of Androzani and The Masque Of Mandragora are up on youtube, and they are good ones.

  • Well. Some of them nobody will see again coz they got burnt in the mid 70s.

Best way is to pick one from Each Doctor :)

    I'd pick... The War Machines,

Tomb of the Cybermen, Death to the Daleks, Planet of Evil, the Caves of Androzani, Vengeance on Varos, Rememberance of the Daleks....

So that's one from 1-7... as for 8, well there's only one.

  • Fans did do audio recordings of the missing episodes (recorded them off the TV) and some are out on BBC Audio I believe. I listened to Dalek Masterplan, Power of the Daleks and Evil of the Daleks this way.

  • personally for me the warrior's gate from the e space trilogy. The Deadly Assassin establishing gallifreyian society. and probally finally frontiers in space 3th doctor. not the best nor worst of doctor who episodes but my favorites check out the sontarian experiment also ark in space for a bit scary doctor

  • Must see "The Pirate Planet"!

  • Rememberance of the Daleks

    Earthshock

    Tallons of Weng Chiang

    Caves of Androzani

  • Genesis of the Daleks with Tom Baker is a MUST SEE. It thoroughly explains the roots of the Daleks, including where the term "Dalek" comes from. This is also the first story to introduce Davros. Pyramids of Mars, Robots of Death, The Ribos Operation....honestly, they're all good...might just have to find time to watch episodes here and there while we wait for Series 5. YouTube has the very 1st story with 1st Doctor on here. And the first Dalek story. 2 more MUST SEES.

  • oh, drwhobaddalek has been uploading the new series divided into 2 minute scenes, and doctorwhoclassics I think is who has several of the 1st Doctor stories. YouTube also has The Kings Demons with Peter Davison (5th), and Planet of the Daleks with Jon Pertwee (3).

  • I could write an article on this but some of my top picks are:

Pyramids of Mars - classic 4th-Doctor, and possibly the creepiest villain ever. Good alternative 4th-Doctor story is City of Death, featuring Timelady Romana and written by Douglas Adams.

Earthshock - when it aired it was the first Cybermen story in six years, making their 'shock' reveal a real twist.

Remembrance of the Daleks good example of 7th-Doctor companion Ace, and the Doctor proving he isnt always a nice guy.

  • i totally agree exept i would also say silver nemesis 1988 sylvester mccoy

  • good call... i was thinking Silver Nemesis is another great McCoy story

  • Ying and yang episode with mr sin. Freaky!!!!

  • My top 3 from the classic series

    3: The Five Doctors

    2: The Three Docotrs

    1: Genesis of the Daleks

  • You're probably well in to watching all these stories but with Time-lords in mind I'd recommend the 6 part Invasion of Time. Gallifrey, Sontarans, K9 and quite a twist.

The 90 minute The Five Doctors special also gives you more Timelords...and more Doctors, a potted history of Gallifrey and a fine performance by the guy playing William Hartnell's Doc.

  • Richard Hurndall played William Hartnell's Doctor in 'Five Doctors'.

Another good thing about 'Five Doctors' is it let Pertwee face the Cybermen. Something he didn't do during his run.

  • Try and start off with your favourite enemy, like: "Genesis of the Daleks" (1975)

"The Tomb of the Cybermen" (1967)

    "Earthshock" (1982)

    "Rememberance of the Daleks (1988)

Or start off with a Doctor you will adore from the start or watch the story that was voted as the number one story to watch by DWM

    "The Caves of Androzani" (1984)

  • CITY OF DEATH!!!!!!!!

  • CITY OF DEATH ABSOLUTELY!!!!! I use this episode as a way to bring my nuWho friends into classic.

  • the mind robber

invasion of time those are the best!

    the three doctors

    an unearthly child

    terror of the autons

time and the rani just to get u started

  • 1. Genesis of the Daleks 2. The Five Doctors 3. Logopolis 4. Tomb of the Cybermen 5. The Deadly Assassin 6. The Claws of Axos 7. The Keeper of Traken 8. The Caves of Androzani 9. Remembrance of the Daleks 10. Pyramids of Mars (And incidentally, RTD cites Genesis of the Daleks to be the start of the Time War!)

    Keep blogging, K! :)

  • Hi, my advice is to pick a particular theme and follow that through. A good starting point might be the regeneration stories: An Unearthly Child The Tenth Planet (episode 4 missing) The Power of the Daleks (entire serial missing) The War Games Spearhead from Space Planet of the Spiders Robot Logopolis Castrovalva The Caves of Androzani The Twin Dilemma Time and the Rani Doctor Who: The Movie
  • 1= The Deadly Assassin

    2= The Three Doctors

    3= Remembrance of the Daleks

    4= Genesis of the Daleks

    5= The Keeper of Traken

    6= Logopolis

    7= Castrovalva

    8= Robot

  • @F1er4Life: Spectacular choices, but you could have included Inferno and The Pyramids of Mars. They were superb stories too.

  • I have some ideas. How about:

    The Deadly Assassin

    Pyramids of Mars

    The Robots of Death

    The Silurians

    The Ambassadors of Death

    The Tomb of the Cybermen

    The Keys of Marinus

  • *Planet of Fire

    *Time and the Rani

*The Master Trilogy (The Keeper of Traken / Logopolis / Castrovalva)

  • Ghost light

    survival

    Remembrance of the Daleks

all from the 7th Doctor era and the T.v movie only only apearnce of the 8th Doctor.

  • I would definitely start off with "The Five Doctors" from the Peter Davison era, as this was the chance to see all of the Doctors (despite the fact that William Hartnell, the 1st Doctor had died, and was replaced, and Tom Baker didn't wish to officially take part in it) and all of his most famous enemies and companions.

"The Aztecs" is a fantastic four-parter from the Hartnell era, and "The Tomb of the Cybermen" is a classic Patrick Troughton adventure. But definitely start with Five Doctors.

  • Well lets go for the best of the best for each Doctor

    1st- An Unearthly Child.

2nd- The Tomb of The Cybermen

    3rd- The Sea Devils

    4th- Genesis of the Daleks

    5th- The Five Doctors

    6th- Revalation of the Daleks

7th - Rememberance of the Daleks

8th- The Enemy Within (AKA The TVM)

  • You might want to consider looking at the episode guide on the BBC website. It has a little blurb about most of the episodes and pictures.

I'd suggest the first apperance of the cybermen ... the Icy planet I think it is called in the first series, anything that has Fenris mentioned in it, the circus episode which is the last story of the seventh doctor I think. Genisis of the Daleks is pretty classic too. Talons of Weng Chiang, Pyrimids of Mars, Book of Galifry are the ones I suggest.

  • the web planet as it's really funny lol. one of my faves from the 60's .

  • i think the 4th doctor episode genesis of the daleks is great

  • Inferno, robots of death, genesis of the daleks, pyramids of mars, time warrior, the five doctors, the three doctors, the ribos operation, the invasion, deadly assassin, the seeds of death. All available on dvd! Enjoy!

  • I never used to be much of a Pertwee fan, but i find myself wanting to recommend 'Inferno' (Series 7) a lot. Really good stuff in that, and an atmosphere like no other.

i see many people saying Caves of Androzani (series 21 - Peter Davison) - it is also a must :)

you should let people know what you've ended up watching!

  • Not sure what you have seen yet but The Caves of Androzani, which is Peter Davison's last episode before Colin Baker, is a definite must.

And if you haven't already I would watch most of Colin Baker (he only had two seasons), definitely an under-appreciated Doctor; and it covers a lot of things that the new writers are probably going to have to explain/deal with in the coming series. Especially in Trial of a TimeLord which is the 2nd, and is multiple stories within one.

  • The Talons of Weng Chiang gets my vote.

It's on dvd and stars Tom Baker (Doctor #4)

    Big spooky and big fun

  • tom baker episode: invasion of time

    f the five doctors

  • See Jon Pertwee's shows theyre gr8

  • The Caves of Androzani. The Fifth Doctor and his assistant Peri get a fatal disease. They get mixed up in a local feud and the Doctor pays a huge price trying his best to save his companion's life. Davison gives the performance of his life. The structure is brilliant - from a few faint ripples at the start it slowly builds until everything comes shattering down at the end. Get this one on DVD first!!!

  • beautiful breasts

  • Hey :)

I'm going through beginning to end myself via Netflix and it is taking FOREVER! So far I'm only about 2 seasons in.

But out of the first two seasons, I have to say that I really enjoyed The Daleks and The Aztecs from Season 1 and The Dalek Invasion of Earth and The Time Meddler from Season 2.

The Dalek Invasion of Earth has been my favorite so far, and The Aztecs is widely agreed to be one of the best stories of all time. And they both have Ian, who I think you'll like :)

  • The Time Meddler (Hartnell)

The Invasion or The War Games (Troughton)

Spearhead From Space, Inferno, The Three Doctors, The Time Warrior (Pertwee)

Genesis of the Daleks, The Deadly Assassin, The Robots of Death, The Talons of Weng-Chiang, Horror of Fang Rock, the Key To Time season, City of Death, the E-Space Trilogy (Tom)

Earthshock, Black Orchid, Five Doctors, Caves of Androzani (Davison)

Attack of the Cybermen, Revelation of the Daleks (Colin)

Curse of Fenric, Survival, Ghost Light (Sly

  • My all time favourite episode was Robot, which was the first episode Tom Baker was in. It's fantastic, I highly recommend it.

  • Pyramids of Mars

    Genesis of the Daleks

    The Time Warrior

    The Curse of Fenric

    All are out on DVD!

  • Genesis of the Daleks

    Pyramids of Mars

    Inferno

  • I have only seen the st doctor in order. "An Unearthly Child" and "The Daleks" is good. I have seen random episodes, because KBTC PBS shows a them from time to time. Oh and the Movie is good.

  • The Time Warrior!! It's Sarha Jane's first show, It's with the 3rd Doctor, Prewee

  • Sperhead from Space, bringing all the fun with Plastic dummies chasing people, Nestene Consciousness a much more.

The Tomb of The Cybermen/The Invasion, well cybermen are awesome.

Brain of Morbius. Its my favorite episode, I have to recommend it.

Horror of Fang Rock, second favorite.

  • 20 of the best:-

Earthshock, Caves of Androzani, Genesis of the Daleks, Pyramids of Mars, Robots of Death, City of Death, Mawdryn Undead, The Green Death, Inferno, The Sea Devils, The Time Warrior, The Curse of Fenric, The War Machines, The Tenth Planet, Terror of the Zygons, Vengeance on Varos, The Leisure Hive, The Hand of Fear, The Deadly Assassin and most importnat of all - An Unearthly Child

  • 1st Doctor: "An Unearthly Child," "The Daleks"

2nd Doctor: "The Power of the Daleks," "The Tomb of the Cybermen"

3rd Doctor: "Terror of the Autons," "Day of the Daleks"

4th Doctor: "Revenge of the Cybermen," "The Deadly Assassin," and The Key to Time story arc.

    5th Doctor: "Kinda"

    6th Doctor: "The Two Doctors,"

7th Doctor: "Remembrance of the Daleks," "The Curse of Fenric," "Survival"

    8th Doctor: (the movie)

  • A few recommendations. From Tom's series:

Horror of Fang Rock, Invasion of Time, Genesis of the Daleks, and if you have enjoyed the new series and Sarah Jane's return; I would also recommend Hand of Fear to see her departure story.

  • Genesis of the Daleks, because its Davros's first appearance, plus its the first strike in the Time War

  • oh and dailymotion has pretty much every episode! user tardismedia has the stories all organized by playlist and as far as I can tell he has everything!

  • wow I have a lot of doctor who to watch now! I tried starting from the very beginning, but there is just too much! I've watched the first three stories, but now I think I'll only watch ones that have been suggested! There are so many already!

  • yeah, where can u watch them??

  • You can buy them (new or used) from on-line retailers, or e-bay. Better option: They are available via Netflix, either as DVD rental or on-demand video (via your computer or TV with Roku player or X-Box 360). Public television (PBS) used to show them, in order, two per week, with no commercial. Pity they stopped. If folks these days could watch the three years of Peter Davidson episode, they would realize how inferior the new series is (even though it is still a lot of fun).

  • I have every episode of Doctors 3, 4, 5, & 6. Half of Doctors 1, 2, & 7. Hartnell: Unearthly Child, The Daleks, The Dalek Invasion of Earth. Troughton: War Games. Pertwee: Planet of the Spiders. Tom Baker - Genesis of the Daleks, The Face of Evil, The Invasion of Time, the Key to Time series, Destiny of the Daleks, Warriors Gate, Logopolis. Davidson: Snake Dance, The Five Doctors, Resurrection of the Daleks, The Caves of Androzani. Colin Baker: Trial of a Time Lord series. McCoy: All bad.

  • Genesis of the Daleks! told me where all the daleks came from and how. though I did find it a little confusing :-)

  • The Five Doctors

    Mark Of Rani

    The War Games

    Caves Of Androzani

    Genesis Of The Daleks

  • All the series finale ones :D

  • You need to watch "The Three Doctors" and "The Five Doctors."

Also"Unearthly Child" is a good place to start, since it was the first episode and all, and you can see Cranky!Doctor. Patrick Troughton was awesome, but most of his stuff was lost, which sucks, because Jamie was one of the best companions. And anything with Peter Davison, because he rocks.

  • Okay, I haven't seen much of the old stuff, but I'd like to throw this question out there for those of you who have.

Is there an episode that explains what happened, and why there is only one Time lord left? In the new series there are so many references of the Time War, and I was just wondering if there was an episode(s) of it?

  • The War Games

    The Time Warrior

    Pyramids of Mars

    The Talons of Weng-Chiang

    The Caves of Androzani

    Vengeance On Varos

    Ghost Light

just to give you a taste of the different eras of the show

  • Anything with Peter Davison.

You get FIVE stars for reaching out to the fans.

  • Ooh good question. Love Doctor Who but there are a lot of episodes which are...a struggle to get through :)

One of my faves is 'The Horror of Fang Rock' (Tom Baker). It's very HP Lovecraft if you like his stuff - small group of people trapped on a light house with 'ghost stories' and people vanishing one by one :)

  • OMG i need to catch up on doctor who too but it IS indeed time-consuming... i just found out a few websites with doctor who episodes.. i can email you those:)

  • ok same boat as you sort of cept I bought a bunch of them I now have 18 DVDs of the old series. NOT a Tom Baker fan (I know I'm asking for it saying that) so one of my Fav episodes is Castrovalva it's the first one with Peter Davidson and I'm a fan of Adric and Romana so go for the E-Space trilogy (Totally hoping for a Romana come back, I mean if the master could escape I'm sure Romana could have escaped by being in a different dimension) and Time Meddler and The War Machines - William Hartnell

  • Watch 'The Five Doctors'. It's like the classic series Greatest Hits.

  • "City of Death" Tom Baker with Lalla Ward. i know, it's been mentioned already but it is simply brilliant (written by Douglas Adams, don't you know). in fact, most of the Tom Baker years (he did a lot!) are certainly worth watching. and don't worry about the rather dodgy sfx (which were pretty poor even then!) as the acting, writing and story more than (much more) make up for it.

  • dailymotion and surfthechannel have good links btw :)

  • Wow, you already have a lot of recommendations. I can only repeat what's already been said, but I started with Genesis Of The Daleks and that was fun :)

  • Definately Genesis of the Daleks which was Sarah Jane's first meeting with Davros, and his first appearance, Remembrance was good too which saw the Doctor return to Totters Lane where it all started, and a good story too.

  • Tom Baker : Pyramids of Mars, Genesis of the Daleks, Robots of Death, City of Death

Peter Davison : Earthshock, Caves of Androzani

Sly McCoy : Remembrance of the Daleks, Curse of Fenric

Try them first... avoid Colin (in my opinion)! If you enjoy then check out earlier stuff from the first 3 Doctors... or even The Three Doctors. There are plenty of great stories, some listed below... and there are some, er, weaker efforts...

  • Tom Baker - City of Death. Ten times over.

    Seriously.

  • I totally recommend Robots.

If my memory serves me correctly it was Tom Bakers first episode it is AMAZING!

Oh and Genesis of the Daleks. Also Tom Baker...

    I like Tom Baker. He's a legend. :D

    xoxox

  • I believe that BBC America posted a lot of Classic Who on iTunes for something like $1.99 a story so you could always check there.

  • Also, most of the later classic doctor who episodes with daleks are very much connected so start from the beginning of them. :D

  • They said the last episode for the 5th Doctor was the best for the 5th Doctor... according to countless sources. :D

  • season 26 a McCoy episode the final classic episode really and that is survival. You would love it really

  • McCoy's episodes got so much better near the end. It's a shame they cancel it.

  • 1st Doctor - The Romans

2nd Doctor - The Tomb Of The Cybermen

    3rd Doctor - Inferno

4th Doctor - Genesis Of The Daleks

5th Doctor - The Caves Of Androzani

6th Doctor - Vengeance On Varos

7th Doctor - The Curse Of Fenric

8th Doctor - The Movie (of course)

These are all available on DVD Region 1

  • Doctor No. 7 "Curse of Fenric" "Ghost Light" "Remembrence of the Daleks" Doctor No. 6 "The Two Doctors" (Honestly, I never much cared for #5) Doctor No. 4 "State of Decay" "The Talons of Weng-Chiang" "The Deadly Assassin" "Pyramids of Mars" "Genesis of the Daleks" "The Face of Evil"
  • 1st Dr - Unearthly Child

4th Dr - Genesis of the Daleks

7th Dr - The Curse of Fenric

8th Dr - The movie (I don't know if this classed as a classic or not)

The multi-doctor episodes are enjoyable as well (The 3 doctors, the 5 doctors, the 2 doctors)

  • what's so good about the movie?

  • I don't see much wrong with it, and I enjoyed it. It's only my opinion.

  • There not much wrong with it but i don't think it's that great and shes looking for the best stuff to watch. Even if it is cannon, it doesn't have much of an effect on the current series either. Thats my opinion.

  • Most definetly......

An Unearthly Child/100,000 BC - William Hartnell (Althought I'm really not sure where you could watch that one).

Genesis of the Daleks - Tom Baker

Remembrance of the Daleks - Sylvester McCoy.

I'm pretty sure they will have them on Dvd/Video somewhere. Like Amazon....or soemthing! :-) xx

  • Having watched Who since i was 3 and having seen every surviving episode i'd recommend...

    1) Genesis of the Daleks

    2) The Trial of a Time Lord - i bought it for less than £10 and its a 4 disc set!

    3) Robot

    4) The Rescue & The Romans Boxset is good

    5) The Invasion

    6) The Seeds of Death

    7) Castrovalva

  • I don't know where you could watch them save by buying the DVDs.

Genesis of the Daleks is considered one of the seminal Doctor Who serials and you really must see it.

Talons of Weng-Chiang is one of my personal faves, both of those are Tom Baker.

The Deadly Assassin, also with Tom Baker, is one of the more interesting episodes ever filmed because it has a very different dynamic to the others at the time.

  • dvds are twenty to forty bucks a piece

  • So?

Twenty to forty bucks well spent in my opinion (having already spent them).

  • Jon Pertwee - Inferno & Planet of the Spiders

Tom Baker - Genesis of the Daleks & The Armageddon Factor

Peter Davison - The Caves of Adrozani

Colin Baker - The Two Doctors & The Mysterious Planet

Sylvester McCoy - Paradise Towers & Remembrance of the Daleks

3rd Doctor - The Green Death

7th Doctor - The Curse Of Fenric

Besides most of those being "The _ Of _" which is pure coinsidence, these are stories that i can just watch and enjoy. I have a lot of other favourites but these ones to me anyway have differences about them to most of the other stories in those eras that could be related to the new series.

  • Yes that time old question, well since the new series started this question has been asked.

I'll get back to you. this needs some thought.

  • You should just be super cool like Alex and read the books. And then the special effects are better.

  • If you like 10 I think that 5 would be a good staring point.

  • The Five Doctors special, as well as the premier episode or the first three episodes

  • 5th Doctor- Resurrection of the Daleks

6th Doctor- Revelation of the Daleks

7th Doctor- Survival Remembrance of the Daleks

  • Ok I hope that my email got through. I left a couple of suggestions as to where Doc Who old and new is available legally. I would recommend a look at the 8th Doctor remake of Shada on the BBC DW website.

  • Oh goodness I would really like to know too. One of my friends went back and watched all of the old series.... but it took her almost the entire school year and I don't think she slept at night.

are you going to be doing reviews or tardistacular vids for the ones you watch?

  • the first dalek serial is pretty much my favorite thing ever. It starts with An Unearthly Child. I watch it all the time haha.

  • Torrent. :D

  • um:

Hartnell: Unearthly Child (for good beginnings)

    Troughton: the war games

Pertwee: all of them.. um... Inferno, or Green death

Tom Baker: horror of fang rock, tallons of weng-chiang, genesis of the daleks

Peter Davison: there are lots, especially enlightenment (although you have to see mawdryn undead first).

    Colin Baker: the two doctors

McCoy: Greatest show in the galaxy

(and thats it. oh except WATCH "The curse of the fatal death", it is a parody written by steven moffet, in 80s.

  • Tomb of the Cybermen- Season Five;; Doctor Number Two!

and The Two Doctors from season 22 with two and seven with jamie and peri is also really amazing. <3

  • i've been trying to find a copy of the two doctors... i love baker2 and troughton.

  • I have the same issue. I got this book called "Who's next" It has summaries of all the old series doctor who. It's actually rather cool and being just a book less time consuming that going back and watching them all.

I'm still going to steal your power of controlling the masses though and watch the suggested epidsodes ;)

  • Oh Kayley, how do you know the questions I wish ask but have not the camera to ask fellow youtubers! Thanks, now I can use the answers from below!

  • I'd suggest the following from Doctor one and four, whose episodes I know best:

    S1, 1: Unearthly Child

S1, 2: The Daleks (the Mutants)

both of them are essential episodes to the later development of the series.

S12, 4: Genesis of the Daleks <3 (Dalek origin story)

S13, 5: The Brain of Morbius

    S16, 2: The Pirate Planet

Tom Baker is absolutely fantastic, and these are some of his best episodes.

  • (cut my comment off, so)

Also - Patrick Troughton really revolutionized the character of the Doctor. A pity that his early episodes are gone, but I suggest that you try to find one of the later ones. Can't say I have any specific suggestions on episodes here, but it's great to see how the character changed from Hartnell to Troughton.

And I wouldn't recommend the Paul McGann movie.

  • ohhh but the tv movie is ssoooo very cheesy that is it fantastic in it's cheesiness.

  • I really suck at remembering names of episodes, so I can't really be specific. But I think it's great to watch something from each Doctor. (It's impossible to see ALL of them, as a lot were destroyed.) I especially enjoy seeing them all regenerate.

I know a lot of people love Four, but I really love the Fifth Doctor. I know sidereel has quite a few episodes.

  • It's hard to adjust to the pace, acting, and aesthetics - but.. I'd recommend: 1st Doc: Unearthly Child (essential history)... 4th Doc: Genesis of the Daleks (Tom Baker in top form)... (optional 4th Doc, the 1st and last stories of the "Key to Time").... 5th Doc: Castrovalva (clever ideas. Davison's performances are intriguing & he got better during his tenure, I can see why Moffat loves Doc5)... 7th Doctor: Greatest Show in the Galaxy, creepy, surreal; Ace rocked and had a distinct identity.

  • I loved watching old doctor whos but I cant refrence them because I was pretty young when I did watch them.

  • I kind of like earthshock for the fifth doctor, it's got cybermen in it. And also for the fifth doctor, the black orchid, i think it's a cute episode.

  • YOUR HAIR IS PRETTY.

I didn't watch the old series. sry girlllllll.

  • S17 City of Death *** S18 Logopolis * S19 Earthshock * S20 Enlightenment * S21 The Caves of Androzani *** S22 Vengeance on Varos S23 Terror of the Vervoids S24 Time and the Rani S25 Remembrance of the Daleks S26 The Curse of Fenric * TV Movie ** There you go, one from each season and I've starred the better ones with between one and three stars. If you want any more detail just add me as a friend becaise I will talk about classic WHo for hours!
  • Oh - haha - I forgot about the movie! I can't look at Eric Roberts the same anymore. xD

    It was kinda good though.

  • S1 The Daleks ** S2 The Romans ** S3 The War Machines S4 All missing but you if you want to listen to an audio version then The Power of the Daleks S5 Tomb of the Cybermen *** S6 The War Games S7 Spearhead from Space S8 Terror of the Autons S9 The Sea Devils S10 The Three Doctors S11 Planet of the Spiders S12 Genesis of the Daleks *** S13 The Brain of Morbius ** S14 The Talons of Weng-Chiang *** S15 Horror of Fang Rock ** S16 The Pirate Planet *
  • First of all, you should watch at least one episode from each doctor. Second, I personally get then through netflix. I have no idea were else to find them.

episode I would recommend given your criteria and my above suggestion:

The Daleks (first appearance of the Daleks)

    The Invasion (with cybermen)

    Spearhead From Space (with Autons)

Genesis of the Daleks (with Devros)

    Logopolis (with The Master)

    The Arch Of Infinity

    The Two Doctors (with Sontarans)

    Remembrance of the Daleks

  • Oh yes, The Invasion. I missed that off my list. My bad. Awesome!

  • ive only ever seen the new tv series,

and ive tried looking around for the firsts, but to no avail

am i the only one that feels like part of a secret club?! :D

  • okay never mind...apparently im the only one that didnt know of this channel...

    =[

  • I'm going from start to finish right now. I haven't gotten far, but so far my favorites are the Aztecs and The Dalek Invasion of Earth. TDIoE is REALLY good....I don't want to give it back to Netflix.

If you're curious, the first story with the Daleks is in the first season (i think its actually the second story) and its called 'The Daleks'. Takes place on Skaro, explains a bit about their origins, but I find them a little too compassionate. Its bizarre.

  • I love your hair.

'Carnival of Monsters' was a Third Doctor serial that I really enjoyed...it doesn't have too much to do with anything else, but it was funny quite enjoyable. Netflix has it for instant watch, and dthey have several others.

I haven't watched much old Doctor myself, I had been trying to watch the key of time series, but I haven't gotten too far.

  • thanks for all the thumbs down, people....
