Some time back a higher resolution version of this was on YouTube, & I spent a couple hours examining George's release. You *cannot* see whether his hand was on the ball at 00:0; some have complained it was. However, I finally noticed that at 00:1 a spot of light appears on the ball that wasn't there a fraction of a second before. This can only be the ball *starting to spin*, & reflecting arena light because of this; thus the ball was not still touching his hand! 'Best last second shot ever!
@wizeman5974 Really. So what? As I said, you cannot see from this tape whether he was touching it or not: his hands are behind the ball! Is this so hard to understand? Now, if you can produce a video of the play that was not from the broadcast, that might be interesting. Otherwise, my remarks stand as is.
I was at this game as a HS senior, growing up in NJ. I've never heard an arena be louder than it was when this shot went down. My buddy and I were just thinking how our brackets were shot because we had UConn, a second later we were screaming with the rest of the Meadowlands. Awesome play, probably will never beat this for a live event.
The ball was still (barely) in his hands when he got the shot off, which shouldn't have counted, and Clemson shoulda won. That doesn't matter now 30 years later though, still a great play.
@BcL07 I had nothing against this Clemson team. If you remember, they were down 20 points in the second half and made a hell of a comeback to take the lead late. I was pulling for Clemson here...no joke.
The best part, jump to 41 seconds and closely watch the guy at the far left side of the screen. He is so jacked up by the shot that he appears to pass out, hahahah
clemson fan here.... and, they weren't cheated. the clock did start when he got the ball. if you wanta see cheated check out the duke game from a couple years back.
That was the longest 1 second in history. lol. The clock is supposed to start the moment the player gets the ball. Clemson was cheated out of that win.

@BcL07 Back in those days, the clock didn't signal the game over, it was the buzzer. So the correct call was made.

@bull864
Thanks for the reply a year later, lmao. I forgot I even commented on this vid, and at this point don't even care.
And why does a USuC fan go around commenting on Clemson videos anyway? Seems like some sort of infatuation to me.
