@MeAndMother2 : Hmm, someone really doesn't understand how the earth works, do you? Bears don't kill for sport, or start wars, etc. I could go on, but you probably can't read the big words.
@MeAndMother2 Animals that "hurt humans" feel threatened. They don't wake up one morning a decide to attack a human. Steve Irwin spoke of this when he took responsibility for being bitten when he made a mistake. There is a respect factor in dealing with everyone and everything. If you disrespect a human, they get mad at you. If you disrespect an animal, most times they will run from you and try to get away from you. If you corner either, the consequences can be far more disasterous.
@MeAndMother2 it is that narrow minded, selfish mentality of valuing everything by what is convenient to humans that have this planet smelling of concrete instead of wild flowers! By value, do you mean things that make no money for you? what a foolish human that values things that hurt the planet and other life on it.
@RevNagi biggest word used is 3 syllables, stop as not to confuse people. FTW?? Also Colbert is not being serious about bears and it's not like his joke is causing rednecks to go out and shoot bears to protect their children.
Also, bears are gay and my one of my favorite movies involves killing a bear. "The Edge" with Sir Anthony Hopkins.
For those of you thinking this campaign is serious and that they think ColBEAR is really the "#1 threat to bears" - how on earth do you take a video of Ed Asner telling Stephen to "get himself a set of balls" seriously? THIS IS A JOKE :P
The Defenders campaign is a humorous riff on Colbert's bit... a riff aimed at raising awareness about bears. The goal is that with enough signatures, maybe DoW can get Ed Asner or a bear expert on Colbert, reaching a whole lot more people with the bear conservation message.
Do you guys realize he's parodying Fox News, specifically Bill O'Rielly? He blames bears for all the problems in America to parody the fact that right wing pundits like to lay blame on obscure things, as well as spread fear about things that aren't all that scary. Nobody who likes that show takes it seriously (except the Bush administration, apparently).
@Pandonodrim No it is NOT comedy, there is a link to sign a petition from a group of wildlife do gooders and normally I think that is a good thing, this however is insanity. I was supporting this group until I saw this.
@FloresDeLaPrimavera I have, and I've signed the petition. Right in the info section on this video it says:
"Join in our LIGHTHEARTED (emphasis added) ColBEAR campaign to raise awareness about the importance of bear conservation..."
After you sign the petition it says: "The ColBEAR Campaign is a fun way to educate America about our imperiled bears, but saving bears is serious business."
The Colbert show is very satirical show, a satirical campaign target towards it is appropriate. :)
@FloresDeLaPrimavera Please don't stop supporting DoW because you think this is over the line. It is most definitely a joke - they don't think Colbert is really "the #1 threat to Bears" - this is all a play on Colbert's long-running bit about how Bears are the #1 threat to America.
Well said dear friend Ed, you have the most amazingly honest way with words - that is why we, and the bears LOVE YOU and we stand by this campaign every step of the way !
Um, wolfgod, how is it that you don't comprehend satire? Granted, Colbert does a good job of staying in character (that character being a mashup of Bill O'Riley et al Faux News anti-intellectual types) but not that good. For you to think he actually believes that bears are the #1 threat to America means you've missed the whole point of his show.
@wolfgod1st Disclaimer: My entire point is stated here, please read through fully.
I don't know what to laugh at more.. The fact that some people believe this or that this is even that big an issue... Colbert is making a joke, he's that way... He's a comedian... This is some form of real life trolling and it's funny to watch XD Yes bears do need to be helped out, but seriously, don't attack the comedian, attack the people causing it XD I'll continue supporting as i can while laughing at the fun

Bears are vicious beasts that should go extinct. The less bears the better. Are you serious, bear conservation.

Is this really a serious issue? I disagree greatly despite my support for Defenders.

That is funny. It is true bears will become endangered if we don't do anything to save them and preserve their life.
