The car is a Mazda RX2 and if it has a standard engine a 13b motor, these are not that hard to rebuild or repair if you know what you are doing.

When I was service crew for a mate who rallied in a RX2 we had a spare body as well as a few spare engines ready to be dropped into the body, we never needed to use the spare gearboxes or diffs tho.

This is not unexpected from this 13b motor, I suspect it was not in tune either as I could hear it not running right.

every motor blow has a story. as far as i could tell this kid didnt do anything wrong. he feathered the exhaust, kept the rpms in a good range, and then let out the line lock. my guess is the motor was running a little off or needed rebuilt anyway. theres alot of reasons for a motor blowing up. its not always driver error.
