Wow. I pulled up this video after watching Al Williams (one of the step brothers) on the episode The Stand Ins on Sanford and Son, and I pulled up more info about him and found out he was a part of this group. All of them are very talented. Tap dancers don't really get a lot of the spotlight today, and it is difficult to do. I'm blown away by this video.
I'm so glad I found this. They were my idols growing up. They use to practice their acro tap with no gym mat or for that matter a dance studio. Everything was done outside on the streets. In the early days they had no music and use to keep rhythm by clapping and stomping their feet while the other danced.
My big thrill was years later dancing with Maceo Anderson. I'll never forget it.
The first person out in "the challenge" was Maceo Anderson the creator of the group. There were actually 5 dancers in the group. They had an alternate just in case some one really did break a leg or ankle. The step brothers had four generations of dancers. I know because I was a member of the "Little Steps" we were the last set of dancer's trained by Maceo. We worked for Librace, Mike Douglas and did the Jerry Lewis telethon. Im 41 now. I was on stage with Librace at age 12. I miss them all
@tapdancer1969 Cool story. Thanks for sharing the history. Those guys were really talented. I just saw "It Ain't Hay" from Abbott and Costello, and during the number "Glory Be", those guys are playing movers on a dock, dancing and one of the guys is dancing on top of a stack of boxes as they are unloading them! It was crazy. If you get a chance, check that out. I haven't seen it uploaded here and I was looking for it.
