Actually, this movement always sounds flat but isn't. I once came up with an explanation for this involving frequencies, wavelengths and acoustics but have forgotten it!
They are flatter than is usual for this movement though. Thats what happens when you use ladies and not boys!
Has anyone analysed this first movement? I have to do it for theory and was wondering if anyone already had the roman numeral analysis or knows where I can find it.
first! lol.. i liked the editing in the beginning - during the orchestras tune up.... the rest was very good as well. too bad it's hard to *really* give that place justice no matter the camera work or editing - beautiful place & lovely song. :)
Maybe the worst audio/video sync I've ever seen on YouTube. The music starts a full 15 seconds after the conductor starts conducting.
Of course, there's no reason to watch it anyway. Just open another window and do something else while enjoying the music.

Is it just me or does everyone in the choir go really flat on their high notes?

Yes!!! Orchestra is quite good... choir is absolutely out of of tune! Far too much tension in that singing. Their German needs a lot of work, too.

This piece is truly wonderful. Brahms' fame should be immortal even if he hadn't composed any other masterpiece (just like symphony No.4).

God I love this. Do you know that it is the only protestant Requiem ever written? It is unique!!!

Wonderful music, and this first movement is the absolute highlight in my opinion.

What is false singing? Do you mean falsetto?
Sopranos do not sing falsetto.
