What I love about Emperor is that the 2 guitar lines in each riff are almost always different, and they compliment each other so damn well. That's damn good musicianship. Most metal bands play the same riffs together, with a few different paths thrown in every now and then.

I recently got interested in Black Metal a few years ago. I view it as a progression from the previous metal I listened to (but that I still like). There is no question that Emperor is the cream of the crop of Black Metal. These guys sound like a "Symphony of Metal". Epic and Powerful, they're excellent musicians. Next in line for me, would be Immortal, grim and haunting. Yeah!

the band i was in did some support slots with Emperor on the fear of a black metal planet tour back in 93 , i remember watching ihsahn "sing" whilst at the same time playing these fantastic riffs at warp speed, as well as his fingernails been about 2 inches long painted black and cut to a point...how the fuck he managed to play was amazing, but these are some of the finest metal riffs ever to be heard.

@YDKSM an Ibanez RG320 is his main guitar, It’s a special edition from the 2006 NAMM show,he also used the Ibanez RGA121, because it has no tremolo and also stays in tune really well,on Emperor he used an Ibanez RG 7620 7 string on Prometheus and solo he used an Ibanez RG 2228 8 string on After,i have the 7 and 8 strings and they both play and sound fantastic!

Shame Tchort isn't there as well to play the Bass to this. The Bassline in I am the Black Wizards is probably one of the Basslines I like the most when it comes to Black Metal in general. Though, I think that's got more to do with it being the first Emperor bassline I learned.
