  • Identical twins in the line up. I saw them in 71 at the Corn Exchange in Kings Lynn. At the time they were as big as Free, Sabbath, as well as the Pop bands such Sweet, Mungo, Bays, Nazareth, Glitter etc. etc Really dissapointed that they only really managed 2 hits. They were much better than that. This rates in my all time top 10. Where are they now?

  • slade copy cat band

  • The Hunt, a Canadian band, covered this (very well, in my opinion) on their 1980 album "Back on the Hunt".

  • classic sheer classic.

  • great to hear this classic again!

    tamucha!

    D.T.

  • i was eight when this came out. Thiry nine years later, I finally got it on cd, what abrilliant song. It ought to be as famous as All right now

  • @nimrodberliner same here mate..And yeah it should be tooo...

  • @nimrodberliner I was 11 when this was out and kicking.Thought it was Slade at the time and it still does sound like them today.Brilliant record.

  • 1972 , anyone reading this should note England was a much much happier place then, no such thing as health and safety immigration issues , the level of crime was much lower and we liked ourselves .

  • @Jazzawray im gonna get me a pair of dungarees. and a mullet. and get a time machine and relive those wonderful days before thatcher came to power and fucked us all over.

  • @123jsbach This is it! Absolute enjoyment! Just a shame that it is so obviously clear that guys in this video do not know the lyrics to this song! Hey shit happens

  • @eggthang - oh yes!

  • August 72. Back to back in the Disco : School's Out - Virginia Plain - Standing in the Road - Silver Machine ....

  • Thanks. Good to hear this again.

  • I remember this song. My brother had a LP with various artits and this song was on it and the one I played the most together with Frijed Pink's version of House of the rising sun.

I always thought the singer sounded like Noddy Holder from Slade.

  • @SlotraceDK Yes, he sounded a lot like Noddy. I'm sure lots of people hearing this song would think it was Slade.

  • Pure Rock and Roll! Classic!!!!

  • Played Exmouth pavillion just weeks before this went in the charts.Just another saturday night band at the time

  • Ahhh I was 8 when this came out haha ... same age my girly is now !!!

  • a justin beiber fan has watched this...

  • check out a band playing in surrey called CRY WOLF, some of this band are in it.

  • He does sound like Noddy Holder!

  • I always thought the lead singers voice was like Noddy Holder's lol

  • i was 20 back then.. brings back good memories. top tune.

  • now that was when gals had nice butts!

  • Got the single ! lol

  • I was 13 years old that year - this is still brilliant - don't remember the singer sounding like Noddy Holder though!

  • An absolute belting band proper metal from the 70's

  • I met Blackfoot Sue when they picked me up hitchhiking in Evesham, and went to the gig with them, they were then called the Gift . Were good friends went to several gigs, had a great time especially with Eddie Golga, 1968 a great year. Big kiss Eddie if you ever see this.

  • Glam Rock Rox....

  • Yeah I must agree with the comments below it does sound like Slade but not as good. I did check out Cry Wolf but didn't think much of the lead guitarist.

  • I love this! What a fantastic clip. This song never seems to get played on the radio, which is a shame coz it's brilliant. It was a big hit too, no.4 in 1972. It brings back a lot of memories, great days.

  • There only room for one Slade

  • one of the best intros of its time.makes ya want to get your guitar and join in.lambokev

  • Love this track. Couldn't believe that it wasn't Slade when it came out in 1972.

It's one to thump along to in your platforms !!

  • so stylish

  • wow i used to watch these guys in the Walmer Castle Pub in Peckham in 1972.Nearly 40 years ago where's the time gone lol.

  • My sister in law Mary Marshall used to go out with Tom Farmer!

  • doesnt the singer sound like noddy holder or is it my imagination still great tune

  • Great old song...what a stomper! What happened to the boot on the end of a staff of wood that one of the group stamped in time to the music on Top of the Pops?

  • EPIC music

  • The vocalist sounds so much like Noddy Holder from Slade

  • I saw Blackfoot Sue at the Melody Rooms in Norwich in 1972, it was just before Christmas and I met up with my old school friends there every Saturday (they were working and I was in my first term in College). We were all Slade Fans and this group (as you can hear) had a very similar sound. From what I can remember they were great. The song is brilliant.

  • I want a Blackfoot Sue LP from 1972!!!!

  • @trevor40 Me too

  • Those were the days, head against one of their speakers and me out of my head.....could be why I am so nuts!!!!

  • Jesus Christ! Is that Slash's Dad playing lead guitar!

  • @Zapata935 Could be....! I saw a band called 'Blackfoot' play at our (tiny) college union (I read that they didn't do anything live under that name?) playing in about '80 or '81 and they played Standing in the road. It must have been Eddie with his goldtop - it was just pure class. He must have been f###ing excellent for me to still remember so clearly after 30 years!

  • Let me quess, these individuals were Danish truck drivers, accosted by your production staff, thrust into costume and ordered to appear as rock stars! That's about how it appears to a normal person? All they had to do was mime along to the music track! Claptrap!

  • @Zapata935

    actually they were/are brilliant musicians.

the drummer also palyed with the sweet.

i think the video is out of sync slightly.

  • check out crywolf , tom and dave still touring doing classic rock covers in west london area double u double u double udotcrywolfrocksdotcodotuk

  • @cornholio1962 Yeah man, Cry Wolf are local heros! Love them.

  • I think it's about time they re-released this!!! I love it.

P.S, Please, please, please correct the typo in the lyrics - 'all my shouts for help seem to go unhurt (sic) should be (obviously) UNHEARD. I mean, some people say I'm annally retentive, and although I can prove I'm not, I doubt if they'd want to see the evidence. (Satan's Henchman)

  • cracking track reminds me of a holiday in Edinburgh with my late parents,i was twelve at the time great memories.

  • So much to love about this video clip, and this song. Another one that evokes obsessively listening to wunnerful Radio One as a ten year old. Fantastic bit towards the end when the camera meanders though the stomping legs of the flare clad dancers..

  • YOU TUBE THE NEW MUSIC TV

  • Top Track and loved it as a Kid and still packs a punch

  • Just brilliant! Such energy! What a party they are having!

  • GREAT what else can i say

  • Maybe all West Mercians sing like Noddy! Get stompin'!

  • How is this an Instrumental if there are vocals ?

  • True 1970 class. What a track!

  • In answer to 1960unclemort Blackfoot Sue came from my home city Birmingham England and consisted of brothers Tom and Dave Farmer, Eddie Golga and Alan Jones. They stopped touring as Blackfoot Sue in 1977 but recorded an album in 1979 under the band name Liner. Alan Jones emigrated to Australia and the remaining three members formed Outside Edge in 1984. In 1993 they reformed as Blackfoot Sue and split up in 1999 after a farewell concert at the London Astoria.

  • i remember thinking this was slade when i first heard it. classic from a great era.

  • Saw this band at my local town hall in 1972 - Cumnock. Scotland! Brings back so many memories! Brilliant!

  • i remember them but where were they from (and where did they go)

  • Such a pity about the poor quality.

  • Look at the turn-ups on those dungarees - poor guy, he couldn't afford to get the hems taken-up. BTW, I'll take those 2 x 'Telecaster' guitars they're playing in this vid - they'll be worth a few thoosand apiece..

Always wondered where 'Robbie' got the inspiration for 'Rock DJ' - now I know. The old songs are the best. True.

  • fucking awesome

  • im on a 1970s trip,my mam had 2 albums, with blackfoot sue,and middle of the road and status quo and i recall them so vividley, and going through you tube to find them all, thanks for blackfoot sue,the next track was id like to teach the world to sing,if your interested at all, thanks x

  • @Markgcr I have this track on 20 fantastic hits vol 2 Arcade records (If my memory serves me well)

  • On the road and i was 16! Great!

  • Surely its Noddy's vocals...

  • Great song! One of the first records I ever bought. Still sounds as good today as it did in the summer of '72.

    Thanks for uploading.

  • November 22nd 2009 was the first time I heard this track, and now I cannot stop playing it! Brilliant!

  • We were on a flight to Paris with these guys in 1977 to Charles De Gualle. Great guys, traffic control strike at the time. Remember it as if it were yesterday.

  • My dad was a roadie for these guys. I guess they came to visit once. Who knew parents could be cool. Cool music :)

  • Saw this band in Wolverhampton, the crowd was crap disco fans :-( Myself on the other hand stood out like a sore thumb, wonder i wasn't duffed up.

  • First single i ever bought.

  • Do you think the Comic Strip based Bad News on this band? Great song though.

  • This is probably the best song that Slade never did - when I was younger I used to think this was a Slade song!

  • the farmer twins wicked hope they still going. an,t seen garry farmer for years last time we were so drunk i puked in his sink lol

  • My dad wants to know if you were the same guy that was the rhythm guitarist?

  • god this takes me back as a17 year old enjoying life at its best what great bands and great songs what iwould give for my young days all over again

  • I love this song

  • I love this track. Always did. Can you guys under 30 imagine what it was like when this sort of rock was top ten stuff? That was what the 70's were like; Metal in the charts. It could never happen today.

Check out Frijid Pink House of the Rising Sun, or even mainstream acts like Free. God they were good days.

  • Try Jo Jo Gunne from the same year with Run Run Run

  • Man is this a LOST GEM??? Cool ,Thanks. Had 2 LP's n both decent, some great jams ! Musta lived in 'SWEETS' shadow? Very much the same.

  • This was written by the burly physio of non league Farnborough Town.*

    * not really

  • Good song, shame about the video quality and lip-synch problems.

  • first record i bought.good times good memories

  • Blackfoot Sue . . Standing In The Road . . A great song , and good´n innocent times compared with today . . =) !

  • really sounding like Noddy Holder on this track : )

bought this back then and played it to death, yes great times great tunes just great stuff were the glam years.

  • This was from that cusp period where the 60s turned into the 70s. The drummer makes this one. Enjoy!

  • catchy as hell love this song!!!!!!!!

  • 1972 - Das Jahr!

13 Jahre alt und diese Musik!

  • hated this music then but now it seems nostarlgic is this heavy metal then?

  • I think its "glam rock" and it reminds me to my youth! ;)

  • The drummer Hugh moved to Kenya and worked with me in one band and a few projects. The best drummer I ever played with, a rare talent who understood dynamics!

  • The band featured on a schools programe (early 70s) under the name of "GIFT". The scenario played out was to indicate how the life of a band is hard and not as romantic as all young people imagine.

  • Definitely agreed. Getting to the top is hard work enough in the music industry, and staying up there is evern harder. A pity that this band didn't attain a steadier chart career.

  • Stumbled across this by accident. I'd forgotten all about it. Great stomping 70's rock

  • Absolutely brilliant

  • This is a Video from Disco 72 In German Tele.

Another Song of them was SING DONT SPEAK.

This Song was Top 10 in Uk.

    #The only one They had.

In my early ages a was a great fan of them.

I hope my English wasent that bad.

  • Thanks for the information about the video being from the Disco programme.

I don't know if there are any DVD's from that programme!

Your English is good, better than my German!

  • Is this performance from Musikladen?

If so, is it on one of the DVD's that have been released?

    Anyone know?

  • Great!!!!!

  • As far as I know they are still playing in London under the name Cry Wolf To .Dave and their brother Gary last time I saw them they had not aged and that was two years ago I used to roadie for them back in the late 70's early 80's when I was about great lads great times and great music check them out

  • Hey palerider. That was great to hear about them. One often wonders what happened to such-and-such why back in the mist of time, but its really about us get older and looking back. Cheers

  • I saw these guys up in Notts a few weeks after this song came out. They rocked.

  • Hey am I the only 1 who remembers this group in the whole world? Early 70s South London and we thought it was a real heavy song with a fab intro. Anyone out there got any comments?
