I'm from Los Angeles and visited Detroit for the first time last summer. Sure, it's fallen on hard times to say the least, but it's got an amazing history, and the aura of great and terrible beauty. As far as music goes, Cleveland is a joke. Detroit wins by many a mile. May it rise again to it;s former glory, And even if it doesn't. it will always be better than lame Cleveland.

Their equal no need to argue about it. speaking of which the whole thing of who is better just reminded me ,and i'm sure others, that both of those vast wastelands even inhabit two legged walking beings. Neither Detroit nor Cleveland sucks, and yes, they are both inhabited by "two legged walking beings," What an amazing observation. I wish them all the best. Detroit is just a bit cooler, in my humble opinion. Not sure what you mean by "somewhat relevant." Is that like "very unique" or " a little bit pregnant?"

Bob Seger, Kid Rock, ICP, Iggy Pop also from Detroit. Alot of these people still live there, including Eminem. 15 NFL players also hail from Detroit, much more than Cleveland. Gee, who is more popular, Eminem or Bone Thugs??? who I had not heard of until now. Also, Magic Johnson is from the Detroit area and won 5 NBA titles, 5 more than lebron who can't win one without teaming with today's MJ, D-Wade. All the people on the Cleveland list are washed up now and and Lebron bolted.

Oddly enough Eric Carmen actually lives about a mile away from me and I work right down the street from a music shop that Eminem worked at for a short time when he lived out here... Oh and Alan Freed coined the term rock n roll here in cleveland in the early 50's. you're welcome.

Cleveland has: Rock And Roll Hall of Fame, Trent Reznor, James Gang, Michael Stanley, Bone Thugs N Harmony, Kid Cudi, and Tracy Chapman. Plus even Cleveland's economy is still better than Detroit's economy.
Plus, a lot of those artists (mainly R&B from the 60's and 70's) had Motown Records to help them out. They are now enshrined in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, in CLEVELAND.

@Elparvar - Not true, a few of the Motown artists you see still live within Detroit city limits, and a couple others (e.g. Eminem) live in the burbs. That's a pretty impressive retention ratio considering the state of the city/metro. But seriously, with the exception of cities like New York, Chicago, and LA, what other towns can boast that they retain a significant number of their homegrown talent?
