i've used ubuntu for a long time and now i've got a macbook pro and i have to say that i prefer mac os than ubuntu because it just works, you don't have to use the terminal to install everything, you can sleep your computer with no problems, etc etc
I have just installed ubuntu on my macbook pro usuaing vmware fusionbut cant get the visual effects to work??How did you get it to work?did you use bootcamp to install it?Thanks
Hope that you will have success. I have not owned a x86 based Mac, so I don't know all the details. But Linux has been my primary OS since high school, and now I'm in Comp Eng grad school, hope that you will enjoy the most advanced OS on your MBP.
In that way you're right, Mac is maybe easyer for people who just want a Computer that works and makes no difficults, but for heavy users is ubuntu better, because there is much more stability and the best thing is: ITS FREE! :D
Every software you need is free or you can make it yourself, thats the idea of opensource ;)

Ya I have Ubuntu on my PC... and my PC is running the Mac OS... Mac users will tell you it can be done... but it it all ready has been done...
Linux is the poor mans Mac, so seeing it on a Mac isn't really as cool as seeing it run on a PC.
As I said however PC can run Mac OS with a dual boot or on vmware... or pearPC ... or better yet a Hackintosh PC

Hi,
Can you tell me if you can have all the compiz-fusion effects on this MacBook?
And can you have these effects trough VirtualBox or Parallel or only if you boot to Ubuntu with Boot Camp?
Thanks

Robinom 3 years ago
You need to install it through bootcamp; OS virtualization usually doesn't work well with 3D acceleration, and is really difficult to get to work.

Hi thanks.I have looked into installing ubuntu using bootcamp but it seems so complicated do you know a straightforward way or link to install it?
Thanks

Robinom:
There are plenty of guides on line about how to install ubuntu with bootcamp, such as:

do you prefer OS X or ubuntu???
kwankam 3 years ago
os x
PwnageTutorials 3 years ago
Why? Only because OS X has the iMovie-stuff, or are there other reasons?
Vibaf 3 years ago
OS X is just plain and simply easy to use ubuntu is a bleeding edge os with many new technologies but it just doesn't work as great as mac.

@PwnageTutorials Ubuntu and all linux distros are more complicated than OS X. But not so stable. Runs decently and does almost the same work as Macs.
