  • Raiders. Niiiiiiiice

  • This guy need to go to Bollywood and make musicals. Then maybe... his movies won't stink.

  • Best Movie: The Godfather.

    My favorite movie: Pulp Fiction

  • I consider The Sixth Sense to be a perfect movie, damn M. Night, whatever happened to your films?

  • what was his tone for the last airbender?

  • Dude sounds like Jon Lovitz.

  • His favorite movie wasn't The Godfather, it was Raiders of the Lost Ark all along! WHAT A TWEEST!

  • of course there's a difference between favorite and best, you knob. For instance my favorite football team is the Buccaneers, but lord knows that team isn't anywhere close to best lol

  • Comment removed

  • He wasn't asked what's the best movie ever, why would he even mention that

  • How did I know Shyamalan would be one of the schmucks who distinguishes between those two terms?

  • waht a twist

  • There is difference between both, i can love a movie and see it has mistakes and its not perfect, and in the other hand i can dislike a movie and considerer it a masterpiece.

  • THERE IS NO FUCKING DIFFERENCE BETWEEN BEST AND FAVORITE OMFG.

  • Wow, I was expecting "The Sixth Sense" or "Unbreakable."

  • Comment removed

  • SUPRISE TWIST...His favorite movie is actually Mrs. Doubtfire...Didn't see that coming...did you?

  • @JackBuck44 No it isn't, it's raiders of the lost ark.

  • @JackBuck44 No, it's actually Gigli...

  • m night shamalama ding dong

  • One of the best answers to this question -- it is, in fact, a tricky question.

  • So typical. Ask Shyamalan his favorite movie and he won't just tell you what it is.

No, he'll spend 99% of the time talking in detail about something else and then hit you with a twist ending that he doesn't explain at all...

  • Raiders of the Lost Ark encapsulates my childhood. I love that movie!

  • Yes,MRCAB--I'm with you 100% on that--anytime someone says that their favorite film is The Godfather,85% of the time they really mean GFII,even if they disagree with you,and most of the time they won't.BTW,M. Night really sucks--how can he still get these big budgets after so many absolute failures?by virtue of Sixth Sense and Signs?Or is it this sort of "we've got this Goldblum-ish looking Indian kid with watered down Hitchcockian suspensibilities whom Spielberg completely misjudged,

  • If they trimmed about 40 minutes off GF2, it would be better than the first one.

  • WORST DIRECTOR/WRITER EVER! You ruined Avatar.

  • @ShadeLevora no he didn't

  • Night-We all love you! I say this with the utmost sincerity-PLEASE,PLEASE...STOP MAKING MOVIES!-Just Stop it okay?!?! It's alright if you film stuff, or even if you want to write scripts as well? Just don't try to combine the two and, then try to sell them anymore? That's all we ask? It only makes us bitter towards you and very, very SAD! We don't know what happened to you as a a director, but it's not good? Just stop buddy, STOP! Your loving Fans!

  • M. Night got it wrong from the top...naming your favorite movie is the only question you can answer because that's something that acknowledges the fact that its calling for a personal opinion from the individual, which you can easily offer.

naming the best movie is impossible...no one film can be called 'The Best'...no matter how many polls you conduct, no matter any of it, that question cannot be universally answered.

  • I now love The Godfather a little less.

  • Masterpiece: Empire Strikes Back

    Guilty Pleasure: Braveheart

  • Wow, he likes Raiders? That is like the exact opposite of the genre he usually films.

  • You know, the only reason why people harp on this guy so much is because he's actually a really good director. If he wasn't, then no one would care. True, he's had a few stinkers - but so has Spielberg. At least he attempts to make movies that don't treat the audience seriously. I mean, he's not as bad as Michael Bay.

  • Apocalypse Now is definitely the greatest American picture ever made. And guess what, it's by the same director as The Godfather trilogy. Frances Ford Coppola was the best. Hands down.

  • This explains a lot. Shayamalan needs to spend less time on "tone" in his movies and think more about plots that are not totally freakin' whack.

  • I don't think I could pick a favourite, so much depends on my mood, but I love 'Life is Beautiful', 'Harold and Maude', 'Mary and Max', 'Fargo', 'The Godfather 2' and 'The Shawshank Redemption'.

  • You ruined AVATAR YoU ASSHOLE!!!

  • With his arrogance I'm surprised he didn't name one of his own movies.

  • the tone of the happening was also on another level.....of shitness!

  • He looks like the guy at 7-11

  • Godfather is over-rated

  • @RHCPfan458 You're an asshole.

  • @CertifiedGooner729 Why because I don't like your favorite movie? LOL

  • @RHCPfan458 The Godfather is not my favorite movie. But saying it's overrated is an asshole statement. Perfect acting, directing, etc., etc. Go learn some shit and then come see me.

  • @CertifiedGooner729 Learn "some shit"? I know alot about movies and i know a heck of a lot about tv and I'm sure I know alot more than you and in my OPINION it is over rated!

  • @RHCPfan458 You know a lot more about movies than me. That's a real educated assumption you've just made. Yes. That's your OPINION. You have the right to have that opinion. BUT 90% of the public (and even those who've never seen GD and like to lie and say they've seen it) would call bullshit on your opinion. This is the Internet, my friend. You can't cop out and use the "opinion" card. Especially not in a video with AFI in the title!

  • @CertifiedGooner729 Yes yes and you made a very educated assuption about me needing to go "learn some shit". And yes i'd say about 80% would disagree but that doesn't mean they're right, and it doesn't mean I'm right.

Oh and i can't use the "opinion card" on the internet? Where did this rule appear out of cause I've never heard such BS. I can have my own opinion in an interview on AFI, in a book where my thoughts are published or a magazine or a website or even a youtube comment section.

  • @RHCPfan458 You're a smarter guy than I imagined. You figured out my comment was BS (...a joke). The Godfather is not an overrated movie. It's a flawless movie. How can it be overrated if it's flawless? At least give me a reason why this movie shouldn't be a 10/10. You can't just state it's overrated and not illustrate your point. That's not how film criticism works.

  • @CertifiedGooner729 I don't remember signing up for the role of a film critic, I'm just saying its over-rated and I don't have to, nor do I feel like, giving reasons for my statement.

  • @RHCPfan458 Close your mouth before I take a dump in there.

  • @CertifiedGooner729 Lol what?! So..... I guess you've given up on continuing to argue with me because a) You couldn't be bothered arguing with an idiot like me. b)You have better things to do than discuss The Godfather in a youtube comments section. Or c) I'm such a stubborn asshole you know you won't be able to reason with me.

Pick any of the above excuses that most youtube commenters use when they say something unrelated and deragatory i.e "Close your mouth before I take a dump in there"....

  • @RHCPfan458 A and C.

  • @CertifiedGooner729 Ran out of space and didn't have time to continue writing but here it goes and you kind of proved my point by answering A and C.

............"Before I take a dump in there", and don't want to admit that they just couldn't think of anything to say back so they trash talk instead!

  • @CertifiedGooner729 ....." dump in there." And don't actually want to admit they didn't know what else to say so just started smack talking.

I hope all of that wasn't too complicated for you to wrap your head around.

  • The Godfather is indeed perfect

  • what does he mean by "tone"?

  • 2001 > Godfather

  • @cobrien1977 hahaha good one.

  • im suprised this asshole didnt say unbreakable

  • The Godfather. Yeah, I'm against killing puppies, too.

Safe, middle-of-the-road choice by the most over rated big-budget director ever. His first movie had one decent idea, then he's made nothing but pretentious boring crap ever since.

  • @dansampey i liked unbreakable a lot, but the rest was a pile of crap. and dont forget the stellar performance of markymark in happening!^^

  • What a twist!

  • He is absolutely right, if you're sayin' The Best Movie Of All Time! its definitely The Godfather.. but if it was your Fav, then pick anyting you like :)

  • M Night Shyamalan is an auteur in my opinion.

  • I'm still waiting for my favorite movie. It involves M Knight Fagalon getting his god damn ugly face stomped in.

  • Shyamalan has his own style and vision .. just because his other movies aren't as famous as 6th sense doesn't mean they're bad.

Village for example to me, was an allegory of a society ruled with fear. It wasn't about the "twist".

True enough, his story structure often includes a twist, but the worth of a movie isn't always in the plot structure, or the plot outcome for that matter. It can be in the style, message, the ideas.

  • @Loomr The twist ending to The Village should have been revealed earlier in the movie.

  • Comment removed

  • what a twist !

  • Shyamalan has gotten soooo fuckin lazy since Unbreakable.

  • Ever wonder why every M. Night Shayamlan film always advertise it " From the Director of The Sixth Sense "? Becuase that's the only good film he's ever made. He's a one hit wonder, he's only riding off that one film.

  • That answer sounded like he learned it by heart from "Movie Directing for Dummies"

  • Dump on Shyamalan all you want (and he deserves it most of the time), but I thought that was a great response. I feel the same way when someone asks me what my favorite movie is, because it's hard to separate best movie from your favorite. Coincidentally, Raiders is also in my top 5 favorite movies.

  • I'm surprised he didn't name one of his own movies as his favourite. arrogant asshole, but I do like at least 4 of his films before lady in the water.

  • he looks MJ in the Thriller video

  • @longview1987 OMG lol....You dont know how much youre right.

  • @longview1987 I was honestly about to comment on M. Night looking like early 80s MJ and then I saw someone else already had lol

  • Wow what a Twist

  • Who the fuck cares about this joke's opinion?

  • My favorite movie is a movie that does not have some corny plot twist at the very end.

  • hes a bitch

  • what did he say his favorite movie was???

  • @Zaid777 raiders of the lost ark

  • My favorite film is Jason and the Argonauts.

  • i like his judgement on what "favorite movie" means. im surprised a director with such passion and knowledge has made so many mistakes. but i do like some of his movies. go ahead, hate me. call me an idiot with no sense and that i suck justin bieber's dick or something but i enjoy some of his films. except "the last airbender." that is not his material.

  • my favorite is anything he doesn't make now-a-days.

  • awful director, awful choice of favorite movie

  • good director! some really good films! not exactly Spielberg though is he guys calm down!

  • The Godfather? That's like saying your favorite food is pepperoni pizza.

  • @Feliscar "Control of Tone" seems one-dimensional. However, this comes from a director who has been making rotten movies consistently for years.

  • @Novak67766 Only that he hasn't. A common misperception that will be corrected by history.

  • @slowmovement Not in our lifetime. One movie was comic-book-character idiocy, another was that ludicrous The Village. He has been able to make movies based on the success of his I SEE DEAD PEOPLE. He will be remembered for finding other ways of putting stupid ideas on film. Why did I see them? I certainly didn't pay and now when I see his name connected to a movie I will just stay away unless I'm invited to a beer party where they show The Village and Plan 9 From Outer Space for laughs.

  • Comment removed

  • @Novak67766 "idiocy", "ludicrous" - well, these are some arguments.

  • Heat.

  • Love M. Night's work. The movies I like best from him are ones critics panned! In my opinion, the critics are just jealous, uncreative hacks who are too used to cheap Hollywood entertainment and cannot appreciate the original and imaginative depictions of beauty, goodness, and truth his films capture. I love that he is willing to go against Hollywood norms and expectations to see his vision through.

  • @EphesianRose You might have nailed exactly the point. Shymalan as a person and creative figure seems to be especially provocative to medicore mainstream thinking of so many critics and filmgoers.

  • @EphesianRose I agree with you 100 %. I love his work, he is one of my favorite directors ever, and I don't care what anyone says, I really enjoyed The Last Airbender.

  • Shut up! Just answer the question!

  • FUCK THIS MAN, I HATE HIS WORK.

  • @PaRtEnBULLsheet Are these other viewers out of their minds! His movies are laughably bad.

  • @DXSXDXSXD yOUR FUCKIN HIGH!

  • my favorite movie is Ghostbusters.

  • Aliens is a perfect movie

  • all the best directors actually dictate the meaning of the question.

  • The Godfather Part II is a better movie.

  • @MRCAB Really. I kind of have to disagree on that. I mean don't get me wrong I loved Godfather part II but better than Part I. Nah I really don't think so.

BTW Godfather is not my favorite film of all time but its definately one of my favorites. I really don't have an all time favorite I love lots of different films.

  • The Godfather is the favorite film for people with no imagination. There were other movies made besides the Godfather and Citizen Kane.

  • @BunnyMan456 You are so right. I think if people go back and look at The Godfather again they would be mighty bored.

  • @pudgeuncle That better be sarcasm otherwise you're just a moron

  • Comment removed

  • "Vell the vord to me of vhat's your fauorite mouie is tricky."

  • @AhmadAlony123 What? He said wording.

  • idk why i expected him to be talking to the band AFI.

  • the best movie he did was the Happening! so good WOW

  • DOUCHE

  • Thanks for ruining Avatar you hack!!!!

  • @Foomypoo I know, James Cameron ruined it.

  • @Foomypoo That was James Cameron. He did justice to The Last Airbender by keeping it so close to the story and manga as possible. I loved it.

  • @SillySmacked YOu loved it cause you're an idiot.

  • @Foomypoo I loved it because I'm a fan of both the show and him. There were a few things I didn't like but I'm not gonna let that ruin my enjoyment.

  • @SillySmacked pfff, that is EXACTLY the attitude that is ruining Hollywood. People like you that accept half-assed jobs and bullshit works. This is why of ALL the movies this year only a fraction were watchable...as the price of a movie ticket SOARS. Good, now in my area I'm paying 11 bucks for a fucking regular ticket to see bullshit movies like Terminator Salvation (crap) and airbenders (beyond shit). Keep up the great attitude you are helping greatly

  • @Foomypoo Hollywood can't be ruined. It was built by a variety of people who cared for seperate groups of interest; comedy, horror, action/adventure, thriller, ect. Anyone will pay for high price tickets to see what appeals to them and calls to their imagination really. For example, theatre is still alive (broadway) because of the living performance that makes actors great at their craft and the shows are classics that cannot be perfectly redone. Movies this year are no different then others.

  • @Foomypoo Movies this year are no different then years before. Technology is more advanced but the craft of film making is still the same. Inception might be the new Matrix, Salt might be the new Bourne, or even Despicable Me is the new Ice Age. They appeal to the same audience so the same audience will go. The Last Airbender appeared to children and children who watched the show will enjoy the movie because its accurate and family friendly. Thats the reason M. Night made it, his kids loved it.

  • @SillySmacked Hmmm im sorry if i misunderstood your comment but...are you trying to deffend "the last airbender" by saying that is for kids, because if thats the case, well it doesn't work, you cant make a crappy kid movie and say "well its just for kids" because it doesnt change the fact that the movie is crap, come on just because is for kids that doesnt mean that should be bad or for dumb kids, just look at toy story, dumbo, the lion king pd:sorry for my english :P

  • @Foomypoo And Terminator Salvation was kick ass.

  • @SillySmacked Anything can be ruined kid don't fool yourself. Go back to school and learn some fuckign history before you talk shit you know nothign about. And yes, ppl will pay to see GOOD shit like Broadway. Don't compare modern and classic theatre o Broadway to the shit Hollywood produces. Inception new matrix? Salt Bourne??!!? Jesus is that how shit keeps going from morons that compare old to knew? M Night hasn't really made anything dude. HE is one of the LEAST liked directors.

  • @SillySmacked Oh and not THAT many kids liked the movie, including my nephew who thought it was shit. So good job, the youngest of young, i.e the beyond immature children, liked a movie. The same kids that liked that movie would have enjoyed an hour long fart joke movie so don't kid yourself. And Terminator BLEW. Bale was such a shitty actor; from the man who did such a great job at Batman, his acting stunk. All the actors, minus kyle, sucked big time. None fit their roles and the storyline blew

  • @Foomypoo The kids I know liked it. And if you think the storyline blew then you think all the Terminators blew because all of them are based on the same God Damn thing with the same God Damn plot! So if you don't like Terminator's plot, why'd you watch it? If you didn't like the idea of Common and Bale fighting a war against machines with Worthington why'd you watch it? Bale's character had been hardened from being hunted all his life, it was a great job on his part.

  • @SillySmacked Uhh yea the basic plot of Terminator, that requires GOOD acting and good writing. The acting stunk, and the new plot was poorly done. I wouldnt expect much from you, for you are no robo. I speak in John Connor Claps *clap clap...clap...clap clap....* He sends messages to me in forms of clap communicaitons via the future. He claims that Bale was not an appropriate choice for the newest movie. Wait..wait...*clap clap...clap...clap clap* Oh he also says, you are a faggot. Enjoy.

  • It surely wasnt the Last Airbender.

  • His new film devil is a rip off of a movie called: "elevated" by vincenzo natali before he made the cult classic CUBE.

people who say devil is original, they are wrong.

  • I'm not a filmaker. I'm sure is not easy to create, write, & direct a movie, as this guy did for all of his. A lot people have criticisim about him not making decent films since the Sixth Sense. I still support him. I've seen all his films. Can't wait to see "devil".

  • So apparently he doesn't like twists since he says the tone of the godfather never changes LOL loser.

  • my favorite movie is definitely Reservoir Dogs

  • @VFVhho And also Reservoir Dogs licks balls. Just like real dogs.

  • @MrBringthenoise88 yea, thats why i like it so mucH:D

  • @VFVhho lawlz

  • the only good thing good about him is that he likes the Godfather

  • i dont think ive ever heard anyone say that "raiders" is their "guilty pleasure"....

  • surprised he dididnt say the Sixth Sense.... smug asshole.

  • his movies were good up to the village/lady in the water.

  • @legorocks3 : Agree. I will always watch a first run M. Night movie. I think he is a very talented & underrated filmmaker. He needs to stay away, tho, from children's fantasy stories (Like LITW), IMHO, tho I adored 'Unbreakable'. Too many judge his later works by Sixth Sense, which I don't get. Sixth Sense was good but one can see why it had so much mass appeal. A film like Unbreakable was not so popular culture-oriented, but was still a fine film, tho the ending could've been less hasty.

  • man fuck shamamamalan he had one good movie and that was the 6th sense,. he just tried to capitalize using the same formula on other movies but failed.

  • Attention idiots: Bashing M. Night Shymalan does not make you cool, funny, or right.

  • @Mrx2848 So true. I absolutely love his films. Except for Lady in the Water which was just ok. But he's a really great director:)

  • m. night is an idiot. favorite = what you think is the best. godfather might be brilliant technically but that doesn't means it's the greatest movie ever necessarily. subjectivity GODDAMIT!

  • @bipolarbear27 Your the idiot, thats exactly what he said!

  • m night shyamalan sucks

  • M. Night Shyamalan just found out that he's a ghost. Ironic isn't it.

  • The Sixth Sense <3

  • To Anti- wasa' matter?[ you gotta' admit when you found out Bruce Willis was dead...BAMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!!! he hasnt surpassed that.

  • Hack director. The Sixth Sense was one of the worst movies I've ever seen. The "dead people" looked like they were put together by kids in a sixth grade classroom, complete with Heinz ketchup on them. Who gives him money to make these films?

  • @spd13062 Oh. That's probably why he was nominated for an Academy Award for directing.

  • The "Trip" is you see all these so -called superstars and then you see them in movies from 20 or 30 years ago [Clint eastwood "Revenge of the creature"] and you realize they all been "honing their craft" for half their lives! We just figured out how good they are!

  • Apart from "The Sixth Sense", every movie this guy made has been a trainwreck. Including "Unbreakable", which STARTED with an ACTUAL TRAIN WRECK!

  • he is crap

  • Unbreakable was his best film.

  • He's making a sequel,and planning a threequel.

  • @mynameisiansmum the sixth sense was imo

  • @Rampancyy Cool, I think that's his second best.

  • @mynameisiansmum are you high!! Sixth Sence OWNSSZZ

  • His movies are fantastic.

  • good answer

  • To me, Raiders was also a perfect film. They took their concept and executed it perfectly. There are a number of perfect films. The Godfather, if it stands above the others, stands above them for different reasons. The story, the acting, the immensely quotable dialogue, the cinematography. But even then, there has to be some favoritism. You can't just objectively say "this movie is the best."

  • sixth sense was his only good movie. This guy is a pretentious director with no substance in almost everything he ever made.

  • @VJWU I think all of M. Night's movies are awesome. They are all original stories with crazy twists. Most movies that come out now a days have already "been done" in a sense. M. Night has a refreshing view.

  • the godfather is the only movie I have ever enjoyed more than the book.

  • I guess you've never seen Steven Spielberg's 'Jaws' (1975).

    The book was pure shit.

  • of course I've seen jaws, actually it was on TV last night.

But I haven't read the book.

  • Jurassic Park is another case of the movie being better than the book. Interestingly, another Spielberg movie.

Crichton was a guy with good ideas but his books read like sloppy, bloated screenplays rather than true novels.

  • Obviously you have never, ever read Chricton's 'Jurassic Park'. The book is superior to the film in every, single, fathomable, possible way.

  • I read it in 1993. And, no, it is not superior, whatsoever. As I say, it reads like the work of a hack screenplay writer, which is essentially what Crichton always was. It tries to persuade the reader that the key overriding theme is chaos theory, but this is meretricious bunk. The park does not break down due to the laws of complexity theory; it breaks down because a fat guy turns the fences off. Junk science/maths for the masses.

A pretentious book, laughably bad in places.
