I always love the songs of John Denver ever since I heard him. I once had a whole tape of his hit songs. While passing through the mountains, I just could imagine how John felt when he wrote this song. For me, there can be no other John Denver again! I am glad there's YouTube, so I can watch and hear him again and again.

I saw John headline a folk festival in Kansas City when I was kid, its not my genre really but John Denver made albums. Many out there don't know what an album is, but if you know what an album is, you have to include a couple of John's great albums...we do miss you John RIP.

@Tellie72 I want to tell this little story to someone so I have randomly picked you. On January the 17 1993 I went to hospital to visit my dad who was dying. My sister was driving and I was fiddling with the radio I settled upon a radio station and soon after this song came on I have only heard it 3 or 4 times since but it moves me so much because of that. I heard Annie's song this afternoon for the first time in ages it must be the most beautiful song ever written. Just felt like saying this.
all that john denver's songs are really great i love all his songs specially this one,my papa loves to sing this all the time and also the song take me home country road....i miss my papa who died in year 2000 listening to one of his fave singers and songs make me realize that i should have said more than missing my papa all this time..

I must say I feel bad, because as a teenager, being full of classic teenage agnst, abition, and rebellion, I let myself be blinded (and Guitarist) to great music like this because My mother continously told me I needed to learn some John Denver to be a good gutarist, so I very much disliked him. However, I just finished High School, Obtained my Eagle Scout, and prepared for collage, and as I took a break from life I pulled out an old 33 record, and found my fallacy. Now to make it up to mom...
@GuitarFang .My mom loves his song she used to sing me his songs .when my mom left i tried to grasp on to her by listening to his music it helped a lot .I am now back with her .Ps i am 12
@GuitarFang - what a great story. I think we all rebel against our parents at one time or another, because, after all, we know it all. NOT! I, too, obtained my Eagle Scout when I was seventeen. I could have earned it earlier, but I slacked off like many teenagers do. Anyway, I just wanted to comment on your story, just to let you know, if nothing else, you were never alone. It's a wonderful life. God bless.
I can not think of any reason to dislike him, I was stationed in Denver in the Air force when he sang this song, it brings back good memories I wish he could have lived to sing songs forever..
i love john denver so much!! he was an ambassador for nature preservation and a very talented mucisian his music will live on way after we are all gone, god hold you close to his heart dearest john PEACE
This whole "Wildlife Concert" he did is some of his TOP work. He sounded better than ever IMO and thankfully he did this before he went to his mountain way up in the sky where he's probably singing for everyone.
Sitting here today 22/05/11 on a drilling rig in Northern Kuwait - picked up my guitar and started thinking about songs from my youth in the UK - John Denver was my sisters favourite - and this was my favourite of his - tried the drop D tuning (thank you tube) and after a couple of hours of practice i can knock out a fairly rough example of this great song - his voice though - wow - so clear and effortless - a huge talent that touched so many lives - your misic will live forever John - Cheers SP
@slugpumper1 Easy to play once you get the hang of it, but I find it really hard to play it and sing it at the same time, pretty unique picking pattern.
i used to be a dj at six years y old playin this song on am radio- never lost how awesome he was back in the seventies- an american musical genius - he loved the land - animals -strong faith and his family-god bless u john denver! we miss you
"At times ruff n tuff got you by, But deep w/in Dolphins make you cry. That which you have kept & stored, Can now be given to Your Lord. For in death You were not defeated, At the Rght Hand of God, John...go & be seated". This is an excerpt from my poem Tribute To Ol Sweetness(Walter Payton) by Talara D. Masters. Felt the influence to post this to him. Loved growing up w/him. Thank you for your gifts to us & the world, John. I hope my work blesses You 'n JD I'll see You when I get HOME!!
Hey, anyone looking for some new original finger-picking acoustic stuff, check out my channel!! Guaranteed to make your day better; if it doesn't, you can leave a hateful comment on my profile. It's a win-win.
you've got to be made of stone if you don't get the chills when he sings the "colorado rock mountain high..." part,..58 dislikes? crazy people these days...
some of the best music ever- never ever get tired of hearing it. the 70's were some unique times for us all- john denver is a legend in his lyrics and love of nature and prose- missed by all-
John Died in a plane crash only a few hours from where I live. I was so sad the morning I heard about it. "Thank you, John, for all of the great music you left behind and for your committment to our wildlife and it's protection."
Go to the Windstar Foundation website to learn more about the vital work he began and the work that so many committed others are carrying on.
you are right, im 14 too, and our naitions losing on nationallity, just look at Bosnias- where they are, they pring their music with. But lot of people ashame their national music. They rater listen to pop crap
John thank you for this song! He was so talented I will never forget when this hit the charts. I was young 9 years old & I asked for the album for my birthday...You know that year 1972 we were headed for Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado. We would be in that mountain air it has a different quality to it...You truly feel high...the altitude...Really the beauty is all over the place from as far as you can see them Mountains surround you like nothing else. From wildlife to the wild flowers.

soprisb. i dont know if i would be braggin about being a colorado native after the cops tazin the 8 year old this week. as for jd no better friend of a song has there been
The clip has 2001 on it. He couldn't have performed it in 2001. He died in 1997. It must have been something in 2001 and they had his clip on it. Beautiful song and shame we lost a beautiful and talented singer/songwriter.
Wow, this song brings a lot of memories. think it was the summer of 1983, was working at Philmont Scout Ranch, Cimmarron NM. Had an afternoon off to do whatever and decided to climb to the top of Baldy Mt., which is the highest peak on the ranch at 12,441ft. Whith an elevation gain of 4,000 I made the peak before sunset and decided to try my radio/headset. Will never forget my Rocky mountain High as the song played and I was on top of Baldy Mt.! I camped there for the night.
@br715 Nice to see a fellow Boy Scout/ Philmont camper. One of the best things I ever did in my life. Spent the summers of 2002 and 2004 there. Still have the beltbuckle too.
@br715 I think it was about 1983 for me too. I was in boy scouts, went on an high adventure in the Rockie mountains. Hiked 60 miles in the mountains BEST TIME OF MT LIFE! Play this song all the way back to Kansas City.
@br715 Interesting. I hiked there with my Scout group in the summer of 1983, and that's the song we picked for the slide show. Brings back some great memories!

@GuitarFang Sounds to me like you're well on your way to understanding life as it should be. Beautiful.
Damn good for you.

The clip has 2001 on it. He couldn't have performed it in 2001. He died in 1997. It must have been something in 2001 and they had his clip on it. Beautiful song and shame we lost a beautiful and talented singer/songwriter.
Froggie247 10 months ago
You should see the greatest young talent on youtube.
type in and watch - Beamer Country Roads.
This 8 year old kid would certainly make John Denver proud.
He'd make anyone proud who hopes to see the traditions of country music survive to the next generation!
This is how it is done -

Wow, this song brings a lot of memories. think it was the summer of 1983, was working at Philmont Scout Ranch, Cimmarron NM. Had an afternoon off to do whatever and decided to climb to the top of Baldy Mt., which is the highest peak on the ranch at 12,441ft. Whith an elevation gain of 4,000 I made the peak before sunset and decided to try my radio/headset. Will never forget my Rocky mountain High as the song played and I was on top of Baldy Mt.! I camped there for the night.

@br715 I think it was about 1983 for me too. I was in boy scouts, went on an high adventure in the Rockie mountains. Hiked 60 miles in the mountains BEST TIME OF MT LIFE! Play this song all the way back to Kansas City.
craigh46 8 months ago
@br715 Interesting. I hiked there with my Scout group in the summer of 1983, and that's the song we picked for the slide show. Brings back some great memories!
