That is the best sounding gts iv ever heard top work mate I want my vx clubby to sound that good any suggestions at the moment it's got 2 1/2 twin cat back and getting OTR soon was thinking difilippo headers and hi flows , as for cam not sure and undecided in diff gears
sounds angry just like my one!!,very nice indeed, not being biased because i also have a VXR8 but they have to be the best looking clubby ever made to date i think,
@rhysdalegend dude. honestly??? I just got my p's and searched hell and back for a 5 speed manual v6, I would NEVER drive an auto, it is weak and for girls. only reason you shouldn't drive a manual is only if you have a broken arm and leg.
Manual is much more funner to drive, more power, more control on the car, it is just much better overall compared to an auto.
@rhysdalegend also, I just checked out your channel and saw that you own a holden commodore vx s pac and I'm guessing it's an auto..... Half came out in auto half came out in Manual, I also bought a Holden Commodore VX S Pac Black, but it's a 5 speed manual, I was searching everywhere for a manual... I put a VX CLUBSPORT bodykit on it, so it looks like the car in this video, exactly the same back tinted headlights and tail lights... looks mint.
@rhysdalegend I also have twin 12'' kicker subwoofers installed, police lights (im a bit of a pankster) im make some smoke bombs every now and then... stop in busy traffic and lite it up... watch the traffic come to a hault... covers up the whole area in smoke.... meh.. not that it matters or anything...
I also have a 2.5'' redback exhaust system installed with twin stainless steel tips and pacemaker extractors... closest thing you can get to a V8...
Why couldn't they bring THIS car here to the US instead of the neutered Catera. This would've been a great impala ss or Grand Prix or Bonneville, might have even saved Pontiac.
It's a custom (I think a DF rip off) in mild steel with no mufflers. The was installed by the previous owner 5+ year ago. With DF extractors and Ballistic racing cats.
This is by far my favourite video of any car on youtube. I plan to get one next year, but what's the different between the GTS model and the Clubsport model?
in the VTII to VY range the difference between the Clubby to the GTS are:
c4b engine which includes
larger throttle body 78mm
c4b heads by Callaway
larger cam (still very very mild)
twin 2.5" exhaust
19" wheels
Then a few interior/exterior tweaks. Depending on the price difference if you age going to modify the engine you may be better off using a club sport as base and save a few dollars. It took me 4 years before I did internal mods to the engine.
@gts071 so really there are no real differences besides engine? what about the look of the car, are they any different or just the badging? cheers for all the help mate
Correct. If I was to do it again the extract money I spent on the GTS I could have gotten a Clubby or SS and spent more coin on the engine :)
But in staying that I wanted a GTS for years before I finally got one so I doubt I would do it different as i'm not after the fastest car in the world but a good all rounder.
@gts071 neither am i, i just want enough power so that when im cruising down the freeway one day and some jap crap goes past i want to be able to flog it if we were to race but saying that, your car is very nice and looks like it has a fair amount of go and i dare say you have had your fair share of battles with imports?
How much you looking at spending? The C4B motor has had a few issues over the years (mainly valve spring related). Better off getting a Clubby, sell the motor and get a short block L98 and put whatever goodies you want to straight into it. A L98 with a tune, exhaust and OTRCAI will make a lot more power than the LS1 or C4B. Way better flowing heads on it as well.
@jufresh69 i was looking on around 10-15 on a good motor, buying a brand spanker lsx bowtie block and getting all the good stuff like ported heads and what not, and a completely strengthened t56 gearbox and having a sleeper. I also would love a blower but i dont know about the price for one
A l98 has great flowing heads in it already. Put a cam around 230-238 112lsa (and if you put nice yt rockers on it you can have a lower lift cam = less engine wear), otrcai, tune and a 3 inch exhaust (NOT x-force as they're rubbish) and you'll pull 300rwkw. To get the power out of a ls1, you have to really push it and spend some big bucks. Just decide early on if you want to go fi or na. NA will be more reliable and better for engine wear. Get a mal wood clutch (decent street...
manners and will handle some decent power) or a tex z-grip if the power will be too much, mal wood strengthened t56, diff gears (go 3.9 max as you'll start to lose economy and struggle to get it off the line with anything bigger), maybe a harrop diff cover and tru track diff (think the eaton will handle more power than the harrop). That will set you back 10-15 but you'll have a car that'll sound tough whilst being able to back it up. I've gone the suspension and brakes before power route.
Some good advice there. The Harrop tru trac is rated at 550rwkw where as the Eaton is only rated at 550hp.
I have one of the Harrops sitting on my desk now.. just too lasy to get it installed.
The L98 from what I have read are getting great bang for buck returns. GM Motorsport have the TK cam 238/242 from memory which is getting around 340-350rwkw for cam + exhaust.
@jufresh69 what are l98 engines out of? i am willing to spend big bucks but i still reckon on an ls1 block get all the goodies will make descent power then bolt on a harrop or pwr blower running 7psi and an otrcai should make some power, i was looking at like 600hp. Do you know if you can run a 232/234 cam with a blower or are they too wild for FI?
An L98 (6l) is in the VE. HSV used to run a LS2 (6l) and now use a LS3 (6.2l). The l98 has the best flowing heads of the lot and it's so much easier to make power out of it compared to a LS1. When I get the funds together I'll be replacing the LS1 in my ute for a l98 with a cam around 224-230 114lsa as that leaves the option of putting a blower on it. 232/234 may be slightly big on the intake as blowers prefer a shorter duration intake and not much lsa (or you blow your boost...
... through your exhaust). Speak to an engine builder. There's heaps around that know what they're doing. Just do your research and be careful as some shops aren't the best, will tell you what you want to hear and give you a car that's so highly strung (especially FI motors) that they'll ping their head off if it gets to over 35C. Do the research, put it together yourself (within reason) and enjoy the fruits of your labour once it's tuned. Just make sure you decide on what you want and stick...
... to it, otherwise you'll be burning money. Remember, big cams mean high rev ranges but slugs off the line and not that great for a daily drive as they lack torque down low. Build it to last, don't cold thrash it, change oils and fluids when you should and you'll have an animal of a car that will keep going and going.
@jufresh69 But wouldnt it be too much of a stuff around switching engines? how much is a conversion? and is there much difference between the ls2 and l98 or ls1 and ls2? i would like a clubby that i can do good mods too and make easy power without having to worry about engine swaps and what not. I can spend around 25 on a car and 10-15 on engine upgrades
Easy as piss. The advantage of the LS1, L98, LS2, LS3, etc is they're very easy to change over. From a hazy memory the engine knock sensors have to be spliced and extended, ECU re-programmed, throttle body adjusted (fly by wire or something) and maybe one or two other little things, then you're ready to rock 'n' roll. Easy as that.
@jufresh69 but if the only good feature of the l98 is the heads and im planning on getting a good set anyway why make the swap? or is the whole engine better and easier to modify? what about the l98 versus the ls3 which would you rather?
The stroke difference of the L98 compared to the LS1 makes it so much easier to get power out of it. A fresh L98 should be cheaper and easier to build up than a LS1. As far as a comparison to the LS3 goes, I honestly don't know. Talk to a decent engine builder about that one.
@jufresh69 They all have the same stroke, its the piston and bore size that is larger. The LS7 has a larger stroke tho. L98 is a 6 litre with huge square ports and valves, LS2 is a 6 litre but with LS1 type cathedral ports.
this is probably the best thing i have ever heard in my life lol whats the fuel consumption like? also i have been interested at what rpm they cruise at in 6th on the highway at 110ks?
Mate! Fuck that sounds terrific. I'd just like to ask you wat the cam is like wen you driving round the streets normally and how much was your cam installed and tuned? cheers.
It's easy to drive, even the mrs still drives it around town with no problems.
I have found that I just need to keep the revs up a bit more so before the cam I go drive in 5th do 60k's, but now it need to be in 4th to be happy. But once I figured that out it isn't that much different.
I got the cam, valve springs, install and tune for around $2600 or $2700? I got a couple of other things done at the same time so I spent a little more but good power for the money.
thanks mate. thats a big help. looking to get a similar sound out of mine. i got pacemaker extractors hi flow cats straight through 3" to a muffler. can you recommend a good rear muffler to? thanks
Ahhhhh..... that car made me shudder, especially the first take off. Sounds like a fucken' beast, and by the looks, goes like one too! Getting a VY SS for my birthday, when i can get my license.
