Epic Vid!! I'm 26 and grew up watching Robotech/Macross (both) LOVE IT!! they don't make anime like this anymore, 100% Grade A anime :)

I got a chance to watch Robotech in the early 90s, but sadly, not the original one. Anyways, Macross is the first anime I've ever loved. Even today, its my top favourite of all time. Only Recently I got to watch the DYRL movie and I cried buckets!

You know, I still remember having dreams about this Love/War story when I was a kid. Nothing has ever come close to it. Of course, I've watched it recently and it didn't have the same impact. But there were scenes that took me right back to childhood. I haven't had any dreams in a long time. I dreamed the exact same dream I had when I was 8 years old. Funny how some things stay with you. They may not mean anything to anybody, but to me this is the greatest story I remember. Maybe that's love.

I watched Gi Joe and Transformers too, but Robotech(Macross) had a huge impact on me as well. Japanese animators always added more drama and character development to their cartoons. Check out Star Blazers.

I hate this movie. I hate it because the series it was made easy to go against Minmay with her being kind of a selfish airhead and all, but this..this just had to go and make her too nice. Even knowing the story, I actually was kind of rooting for her and Hikaru. In all seriousness though, this brings back great memories of a good story with well-written music that I would stand up against a lot of the programs that are put out these days. Series was good but the DYRL movie just got it right.

I couldn't agree more! DYRL has an excellent storyline although condensed, the music, characters, character designs, animation and mecha ALL stand the test of time! DYRL is classic and an excellent example that some animes from years ago only improve with time.

Objectively speaking it makes sense for people to not like Misa as much as Minmay in the movie. Just looking at Hikaru's relationship w/Minmay in DYRL he cared for Minmay before their separation. Then, somehow in a short span of mere days alone with Misa he suddenly changes how he feels. That part of their relationship never made any sense to me. In comparison in the tv series, the way Minmay& Hikaru separated makes sense. We don't immediately see Hikaru choose Misa but we know it happens.

Macross was the first anime that I ever saw and it still holds up decently against today's versions. The screenplay still holds meaning and the action sequences are still good enough to catch any anime fan's attention. Macross forever!

The animation is so good and the character design shading,the mech designs are amazing. I couldnt believe what I was watching even back in 1984 when I first saw it. 23 years later,it still holds up. One of my best friends cant stand this film, he calls it the "titanic" of anime films. Yes, sappy love story, great looking women drawn....so what?? Great fight sequences,music and all,who cares what he says. I still love this film. It brings me back when I was 18 and loving animation and film.
