@StrangeLoopGames thank you twice! The track is completely up to you with how it's created. Unfortunately, I can't actually make a definitive version of how the song should sound. That is what is so cool about Planck. It's all up to the player.
I've personally known a member of the dev team since childhood. This game has come a long way since I first played an alpha version about a year ago. There is so much potential here to make a game that is truly different from other sound based games we've seen. Keep up the good work guys, and great progress so far!
For what it's worth, I'm typically not a fan of dubstep and I thought it was used very well in this case. That moment in the trailer was really exhilarating and I can't wait to play it for myself.
@FunkyVerb For one of the most clear examples, at about 0:30, the weapon firing the golden beams out of the player at various angles is the weapon playing the voice synth you hear. You can see the beams firing out in time with the voice.
(The voice synth was also playing earlier on in the trailer, but was present as the blue motes that had the blue firework effect exploding with the music instead of as a weapon)
@FunkyVerb : @RedSuit1 pretty much has it right. The Developer Walkthrough video covers it in more depth, but for the simplified version: Each mote on the field has a corresponding instrument. When you shoot one, it releases a firework that explodes the next time it is appropriate for a note of that instrument to play, and it causes that note to be played. Without shooting the mote, no sound would occur.
Guns each correspond to an instrument as well and fire/cause the sound to play on each note
@FunkyVerb it is, look at the bullets and flashes on screen they are all synced to the percussion and high frequency beats, the mid beats tend to be synced to visual effects that don't affect gameplay
Subbed. I love any type of game where you can affect the music. Is the shooting timing-based, or does the 'hit' sound just play on the nearest 16th-beat or something?
@tehb0ll0x Don't worry! If you're not a fan of Dubstep, it won't be a huge problem. The cool thing about Planck is that we're going to be exploring quite a few music genres in the game, and we're giving everyone quite a bit of flexibility on what they can visit because we know not everyone likes all music styles. If you don't particularly like Dubstep, you don't have to go to that side of the song; the Dubstep target is an option, not a destination.
@jaymmira Hi, I'm the lead artist on Planck, the gist of whats going on is that when you destroy an enemy the game launches up a little firework that waits until the proper timing to play that track and when the timing is right the firework explodes and the music is played. We do this because the timing of notes is so important in music that if it were instant the music generated wouldn't always sound good. Basically we want the game to sound awesome no matter how you play it.
Yeah that definitely makes sense, instant sound would end up producing more noise than music. When I wrote that, I saw the notes "exploding" but wasn't catching why they were there. After watching the developer walkthrough video I understood a lot more of "how" things worked, and your explanation of the fireworks cleared things up even further, thanks.
It wasnt the game.. But the music that gave me an orgsm.

Dubstep is just terrible. The game looked pretty cool until the WUBB WUBB WUBB kicked in.

Everyone, you're missing the point. This isn't dubstep; it doesn't sound like shit.

IF you can save the song you made after the level, would be great. Specially if you make it MP3 :).

Lol I knew it was gonna be dubstep when the snare first came in, dunno if thats good or bad.
I'm a sucker for these types of games but I'm not really seeing how whats being done on screen is creating the music
