The point I made was that Newcastle as a team were perhaps better off with Cole (and his goals) results-wise as dependence on Shearer dominated the side too much. Anyway, that's by the by, as I'm sure Newcastle fans - I'm not one btw- enjoyed seeing their local boy banging them in. So if that's good enough for them, fine who am I to argue. Shearer was a great player in anyone's book.

Shearer is the top premier league scorer ever, Newcastle's top goalscorer ever, he won Blackburn the title, he was the England captain and had a goals to game ratio of almost 1 in 2 and was the top scorer at Euro 96. Rooney may go through some good patches of form but Shearer was consistently brilliant. No comparison.

Shearer was consistenly brilliant and can you imagine what else he would of achieved if he chose United? Obviously being a Newcastle fan I am so pleased he chose us. He scored 30 goals in 63 apps in international football, his strike rate (0.48) for England is better than Bobby Charlton (106 apps 49 goals 0.46) and Kevin Keegan (63 apps 21 goals 0.33).
