Many many Irish did not have any problems with the British in Ireland, it was just a few nationalists who stirred up the hostility towards the british. It wasn't until the british started shooting the rebels that opinion changed towards them.

@celticlofts The Anglo-Normans were only invited in to the Kingdom of Leinster, their descendants invaded other territories in the name of the crown, a process completed by Elizabeth I. Plantation, the Act of Union and Famine resulted in most Irish having a major problem with Britain and constitutional nationalists sought Home Rule within the Empire. The British failed to deliver, physical force Republican extremists filled the vacuum. The British response ensured that the King lost Ireland.
