  • hi what year motor is this

  • As always, informative and to the point, thanks for the upload. We all love Porsche's but hate the added engine work, guess we have to accept it as part of the performance vs longevity trade off : )

    Thanks John!

  • Can going past redline in your car for a 2 second period (such as missing a shift) cause damage to your engine?

  • @YungJosh50 It depends how far past. Shifting from 2nd into 1st instead of 3rd is often referred to as a "money shift" in that it costs you a lot of money to make that mistake.

BTW, Great upload John, I have never seen a "Cam bridge" before or the balls pressed in before.

  • Do not worry John, I know the same rage as you about the Scotch bright pads...many a machine part has come to me bastardized by a 2" wheel on a die grinder.

  • So a porsche motor is a fragile engine with much change of failure.

If the balls come out that is... no oil.

  • @MrPaneel - Other engines can also suffer, not just Porsche. Using the balls in this hi-heat area is not neccisarily a good idea, and heat cycling will eventually work against you - as illustrated.

  • Thanks for your reaction in writing John, I aprecciate that.

Now I understand what it is, thanks John.

  • I am routinely disappointed in the design and lack of longevity in Porsche engines.

  • Dang. I'd like to see the edm.

  • What is that with these small boldholes? why are they there? is it there to attach a heatshield?

I hear you telling something about it, causing oilleaks? can you explain again in writing?

Nice job though! Greetings from the Netherlands.

  • @MrPaneel - These holes lead to oil galleries that feed the camshaft. There are several manufacturers who use balls to seal-off holes like them. It's cheeper and requires less machine time, plus the weight savings of several grams. If you have watched any of my other videos, I'm a nut about saving weight.

  • I think the thumbs down was from a Porsche' 911 owner that needs his balls fixed ;)
