  • @willow407 Makossa is a music style of Cameroon, the country of the singer Manu Dibango

  • @willow407 Makossa refers to shaking the body in relation to dancing. It's a douala word,Douala being a tribe from Cameroon, central Africa.

  • This is highly recognized as the first "Disco" song ever, ushering in an era a sweet phat beats!

  • Michael Jackson "Wanna Be Starting Something", Jennifer Lopez "Feeling So Good", Rihanna "Don't Stop The Music", all of them have elements from this.

  • @SportaMega amen on that, the singers of todays music need to rewiew the oldies to make hits for themselves, thats what i call lack of talent!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @SportaMega...That was a great observation. I had to playl J-Lo and Rihanna tracks about five times before I could hear Makossa beat. WOW!!! I guess I can quit my day job, steal other people beats and become a music producer. LOL!!!

  • OLD SCHOOL FLASH BACK OWWWWWW !!!!!!

  • mikael jakson stole this song

  • Thumbs up if you think this is one of the greatest funk songs of all time!

  • James Brown did the moonwalk waaay before MJ

  • Even the so called MOON WALK that MJ lied he learnt from a friend was ALREADY IN CAMEROON MAKOSSA IF YOU DON'T BELIEVE ME I'LL SEND YOU SOME VIDEOS

  • CAMEROON created DISCO

    Thats the true story.

If you were born in Cameroon, you'll always have Dance in your blood whether you like it or not.Makossa's in the 70s and 80s were the best.

    VIVA DOUALA MAKOSSA !!!

  • This song was a Very Special Gift to me a very long time ago . . . . @rcl4rk

  • ***OK

  • I remember this from my childhood. But I'm hearing it in a new light today. The beat is really something special. Good stuff!

  • @jkirk what did he steal??? Believe me "Q" had more of his musical ideas stolen and remixed than anybody in the industry next to James Brown!!!!

  • Thax for posting ;)) Aloha

  • damn i miss the 70s

  • MJ sampled this in wanna be starting something ;)

  • my dad's favorite bad joke:

q: what do you call a mobster who likes this song?

    a: sal ma costra nostra

ok, it was funny when i was 10 years old.

  • theme used from the Lionel talk show on radio

  • On my God, I can't believe I ran into this song ! I use to hear this everywhere when I was like 7 years old. Thanks for uploading !

  • Absolutely one of the best pieces of music ever. Past, present & future.....

  • So... you can dance the "pure" NY/Latin/Rope Hustle to this - hear those 7 beats... oh yeah!!! 123 45 67. This is disco, with all respect, "break" comes later :)

P.S. Forget that West Coast disco they are talking about now. I went to to the top discos in LA and San Fran in the 70's, forget about it, they had no idea what they were doing. DIsco IS FROM NEW YORK!!!!!!

  • @DameDisco78 Break beat culture was actually happening at the

same time as Disco but didn't have the same popularity as disco in

NYC. Kool Herc was spinning records like this in the Bronx in 1972

but not to a wide audience. This song actually came out in 1972.

So it just depends on what scene you were part of back then.

To some it's disco. To others it's breakbeat funk. To Africans it's

afrobeat/funk. I just say this shit sounds gooood!!!!

  • This song is the beginning of the new wave of music that started called: DISCO. People were like whoaa, what's that? Then, boom, disco.

  • Manu Dibango - Soul Makossa

Michael Jackson's composers were inspired by / ripped this off from Manu Dibango - Soul Makossa. Manu Dibango and Michael Jackson eventually settled out of court. Probably not Michael Jackson's doing. A big greedy record company was happy to rip off but not compensate an artist -- the very nonsense they try to accuse others doing when sharing music.

  • @jkirk1626 A musician friend of mine once told me that Quincy Jones

(the producer of Thriller) was notorious for stealing musical ideas

from people. I didn't believe it but after hearing this song maybe there

was some truth to what he was saying.

  • @jkirk1626 You knpw, it's all been done before. Gaga is the perfect example- she studied her music history, and is just a rip-off artist. EVERYTHING'S BEEN DONE BEFORE ! When do we hear something NEW?

  • @jkirk1626 African Music with African song

  • @jkirk1626 it's called greedy lawyers

  • @jkirk1626 , they thought they could get over on this African Brother. But they didn't and the brother got paid.

  • @jkirk1626 It wasn't the first or last time Michael settled out of court for copyright infringement. Some cases he got out of cuz he found public domain works he said he took from

  • @jkirk1626 Settling out of court usually involves some sort of compensation.

  • Loved dancing to this at all the clubs in NYC especially Tagariss, Footsteps and The Late Show!!!

  • @riitade644 Tagariss! I was there, you are like the first person that I read about that mentioned Tagariss. That was the first disco I went to, some very aweome dancing there - NY Hustle!!!! I got good at dancing there.

  • excelente !!!

  • I finally heard the original, this is the guy that sued MJ and Rhianna

  • Its great to hear some of the music of the rest of the world. This is blend, its people making beautiful sounds that are unique. I am not african, but I loved this tune and still consider it to be ahead of its time.

  • To unclegusyo,

What a terrible thing to say about someone you do not even know. Nobody bothered you or made a rebuttle to any comment you made so why would you do it to someone else you don't know? I am a believer in God and try to live my life correctly, but if I was a drug dealer like you I would probably reply to your comment by asking you how many fathers you have or how long has your mother been smoking crack. But I try to ignore the devil so I will not let your comment upset me.

  • @audioman628 why do you "christians" think that the only people that can help others and be grateful to life have to believe in god ¿?¿? i am no christian .. or do i believe in any religion .... and ive been working in a charity restaurant for years ... FUCK BENEDICT 16 !!!!

  • Just found out about this group. Never heard them before. Sounds like it's from the 70's or 80's.

Check out my page for some funk rock. I'm a chica keeping the funk alive!!

  • This will always be what music really is....

  • Yes it is very funky and good tune to dance to but I wouldn't call it a disco tune in the conventional sense.

  • i bought the original record on the streets of Brooklyn about 6 months ago for $2. The cover don't look like this. The entire album is great...

  • Gosh I remember this when my mama used to play this back in the day!!! She use to play the ish out of this funky ish!!!

  • I actually came here from History Channel's "This Day In History". This was the first disco song to enter the Top 40 July 21, 1973

  • Between this and Santana I grew up Funk-Tee-fiiiyeed and love it!!

  • The Loft led me here.

  • this is the music i grew up with disco, funk, great song.

  • Is this the first disco record?

  • @bahbcat I believe "Girl, You Need a Change of Mind" by Eddie Kendricks is the first disco record. Happy searching :)

  • Afropean? That's what KCET says this is, or the story they did.

I love it. More than just Classic.

  • I love it

  • Dedicated to all my fellow bboys from Soundview and Monroe projects

  • it's been a long time since I heard this

  • I came here exactly for this and nothing else, thumbs up that!

  • And people have the cheek to slate hip-hop and other genres based on sampling when the so-called King of pop was up to it himself!

  • I LOVE the TANGA song . Just like he says " AMONA YEYE AMONA YEYE " LOL

  • @30302044 he said "A MUNA YEYE" = "A YEYE YOUNG MAN"

  • my 50 year old dad brought me here.

  • PEOPLE KILL ME MICHAEL JACKSON LOVE THIS MAN AND THIS SONG. BUT THE ILLUMINATI HAS YOU SO MIND FUCKED YOU CAN NOT EVEN GRASP THIS THOUGHT

  • @preforming1 WTF have the Illuminati got to do with this? Just because I have an opinion which is different from yours... oh whatever, I can't be bothered to argue with you. You hero-worship a dead paedo if you want, I'll still think Wacko Jacko's music was second rate, unoriginal and overated. The world still turns.

  • @Jay3S2 lmao whatever i know your into the rap Lets take it to the streets and i'mma bring it to your ass g

  • @susieinthesky98 MJ also used a part of this song in his song "wanna be starting something". This track is in the thriller album..

  • @susieinthesky98 Michael Jackson sampled this song on his "Wanna Be Startin' Something" everything else since then that has used this sample from J-Lo to Rihanna was from MJ and not here.

  • Wow disco originated from Africa!

  • Myconos summer 1973!

  • Recorded this track partially on my phone in my car. It took me nearly an hour of search in Google until I hit the Wikipedia article that lead me to the name. This track is smooth, cool and awesome - so happy I found it.
