Yes, I assume there are no gods. There is a complete absence of evidence that gods exist or that Jesus' miracles are not myth. You believe what is written, we do not. Does that mean the Bible is useless and void of fact, absolutely not.
I've been noticing that people are skipping over a significant point in the translations to unicorn. The point being that the Greek did, indeed, know of unicorns in their mythology. I'm not versed in Greek of Greek translations, but what was the original or near-original Greek meaning? Surely they had a word that specifically meant 'unicorn' from their description of the supposed Indian animal in question. Is it or is it not the same Greek word in the OT?
This view is supported by the Assyrian rimu, which is often used as a metaphor of strength, and is depicted as a powerful, fierce, wild mountain bull with large horns."[13] This animal was often depicted in ancient Mesopotamian art in profile, with only one horn visible.
An animal called the re’em (Hebrew: רְאֵם) is mentioned in several places in the Hebrew Bible, often as a metaphor representing strength. "The allusions to the re'em as a wild, un-tamable animal of great strength and agility, with mighty horn or horns (Job xxxix. 9–12; Ps. xxii. 21, xxix. 6; Num. xxiii. 22, xxiv. 8; Deut. xxxiii. 17; comp. Ps. xcii. 11), best fit the aurochs (Bos primigenius).
@MisterNickOtine You say this after watching the whole clip? The verses attributed to the 'unicorn' speak against it being any kind of cattle; the rhinoceros makes perfect sense in context. Or have you ever seen a one-horned cattle? :]
@dougmoerhoffman the latin does not matter. the term in hebrew is re'em which is equivalent to the assyrian rimu which was a reference to the aurochs cattle (first domesticated cattle) that was depicted in ancient epigraphy with only one horn displayed. Rhinos are found in SOUTH AFRICA not in egypt and mesopotamia!
@MisterNickOtine 1. A lot can change in 2,000-3,500 years, which is how long since those passages were written. You have heard of these concepts known as extinction and migration, I suppose?
2. The Septuagint, which is a Greek translation from the Hebrew by 72 of the top-dog Hebrew rabbi translators in the world at that time, translate re'em into the Greek word for "rhinoceros."
Why so eager to associate it with the "wild ox?" I'm curious to know your motivation.
@dougmoerhoffman NO they translate it to monoceros meaning "one horn" rhinoceros means "nose horn". whichtellsusnothing did you even read my post? y mess with cognates of translations when you can go t the original language and look for cognates there. it is more accurate t do research that way. haven't you heard of the concept of things "getting lost in translation"? the term describing the animals re'em or rimu is found on assyrian and babylonian rpresentations of wild oxen.
@MisterNickOtine A wild ox doesn't fit the context of Job 39:9. God makes it clear that this animal isn't just untamed, but it's untamable. A wild ox may not be tamed, but it is tameable. A rhinoceros is not tameable.
@NathanH83 because rhinos can't be tamed. wtf. watch?v=_auf99tsUHc ever been to a zoo??? the tamed cattle were derived from the aurochs but the tamed and wild ones diverged, according to wikipedia, into almost different species.
@MisterNickOtine God says in Job that the rhinoceros (unicorn) cannot be used for plowing. Show me a video of a rhinoceros being used to plow a field. You won't find one. I'll show you plenty of videos of oxen being used for plowing.
@NathanH83 those are modern cattle! lol do you even read my posts! the AUROCHS is EXTINCT. UNICORN (monoceros) is a septuagint mistranslation. Like I said in my previous comments which you ignore. Re'em which is the HEBREW word in the bible, not the greek translation, is a cognate of Rimu and is inscribed on assyrian and babylonian EPIGRAPHY (PICTURES!) of the aurochs!
@NathanH83 Taken from the Glasgow Argus newspaper of 7 December 1835: ...The Ethiopic translation of the Scriptures renders it Arwe Harish , the names of the rhinoceros; this, however, is of little consequence, as it seems now to be admitted that that translation was made from the Septuagint. This latter, however, was effected before the birth of our Saviour, by Jews resident in Egypt, at a time when the rhinoceros was frequently exhibited there as a part of the royal pomp of the Ptolemies...
@NathanH83 I'm just curious by the way. Are you aware that people used to worship bulls in the fertile crescent, and in many other parts of the world?
Same thing happens when you talk to some one about singing Psalm, and hymns and song, they think "hymns and songs" are talking about Hymns and songs written today not the 150 Psalm of David.
I love the fact you mention the change in the definition between 1828 and 2011, yet neglect to mention that similar changes may well have occurred between 1611 and 1828. Surely it's just as 'illogical' to use the 19th century definition for the 17th century translation? You only have to see that the Bible talks about the HORNS (not horn) of the Unicorn, yet the definition you give says this animal should then be called a BICORNIS.
I did, and I'm pissed off that I'm never going to get those four and a half minutes back. You know, I actually think the Biblical Unicorns do have a logical reason behind them (not f*cking Rhinos though). Maybe this guy could move on to witches, wizards, demons, cockatrices, 4-legged insects, avian bats, Noah's Ark, men who live inside 'giant fish' for days without food/air/water, Jesus' miracles, etc. Creationism in general, for that matter. Unicorns are a drop in the pond.
@bluemoonrising26 First of all it seems odd to me that you are unwilling to admit that one of your criticisms of the Bible is wrong, He explained that in some places where we find the word unicorn in the Bible, the latin word is rhinoceros, why is it not logical to conclude then that the Bible is actually talking about a one horned rhinoceros? As for your other examples, I would like to point out that one, Jesus's miracles, Noah's Ark, and the story of Jonah and the Whale...
1. I have not been proven wrong. My point in the original post I made was perfectly valid, and a 21st Century online copy of a 19th Century Websters Dictionary is not proof of Biblical/Creationism validity.
2. The rest of your posts is complete drivel, from the mind of a mad man. It equates, in essence, to "if only you accepted God's existence, you would be able to understand why this is proof of his existence in the first place" - in other words, BULLSHIT.
@bluemoonrising26 Dude no one was saying it was, the point of this video is just saying that the particular claim that unicorns are spoken of in the Bible was incorrect. Yet again I say, I never said this was proof of Gods existence, that was your assumption.
"As for your other examples, I would like to point out that one, Jesus's miracles, Noah's Ark, and the story of Jonah and the Whale are not limited to scientific explanations, because God is the one who committed these acts, in saying these happenings are impossible, you assume God does not exist"
AND
"Christ's miracles, we actually have evidence (of those)"
If it's not too much trouble for you, sir, I'd like to hear more about these points.
@bluemoonrising26 ...are not limited to scientific explanations, because God is the one who committed these acts, in saying these happenings are impossible, you assume God does not exist. This, however, is not to say we can't explain how God did it, nor are these happenings without proof they actually happened evidence for God's existence, with the exception of Christ's miracles, we actually have evidence of that.
Another example of how the so-called "enlightened" skeptics of the New Atheist movement are willing to uncritically accept any and every argument they hear against the Bible, whether it holds any real weight or not.
@Epagonizesthai As an old atheist I can defend both sides of this coin. One, 'unicorn' is a very poor noun to use in today's English. It would seem best if it had been kept as re'em. Footnotes could then describe as they've done without the hassle. I don't believe in unicorns any more than I do gods. On the other hand, this is like a political statement that Obama is a Muslim, once it is said, it has a tendency to stick; right or wrong. Just say it's re'em, a massive and extinct ox like animal.
@nerdfightertruman Just proves that people who won't believe, simply won't, it doesn't matter even if you answer their questions.
"And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not. Which of you convinceth me of sin? And if I say the truth, why do ye not believe me? He that is of God heareth God's words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God." John 8:45-47
They won't hear BECAUSE it is the truth. You can change your mind, though, God will have you to.
My question is, how did you get a video clip of mine from last year when I hardcore deleted it due to the fact I no longer wanted to be involved in the atheist/christian debates?
I'm actually the one who made this video. I made it last year, back in February 2010. My video was posted the following March. So I'm actually the one who downloaded your video and used a clip from it.
Then they took my video and used it, which is fine with me.
I'm not even sure if you were really making fun of the Bible, or if you were just being goofy. I just thought it worked well for the video.
There was a time someone had asked me why unicorns are in the Bible. I was about to tell him it was a dinosaur, but just couldn't get myself to say something so ridiculous. So I asked God for the real answer.
And He gave me the real answer by simply showing me references that all of us have right at our fingertips!!
@michael34453 Actually there are Creation Scientists who do think that the unicorn in the Bible is a dinosaur called Monoclonious, which looks very similar to a triceratops, except it has 1 horn instead of 3.
There's a problem with the material in this video. The original KJV 1611 had folio pages with illustrations. In some of the illustrations, you will find the mythical horse-style unicorn, NOT a rhino. The re'em, in Hebrew, means "wild ox."
I just bought the 400th anniversary edition of the KJV from Walmart for $7, and they have pictures of each of the tribes of Israel. And they depict Joseph as a horse!!!!! How crazy is that? And it doesn't even have a horn!
And then in Isaiah 34:7, the original translators give a marginal note that says "or Rhinoceros"
So, the original translators themselves admit that it's a rhinoceros, but then in their pictures they portray it as a horse.
I understand that this is part of an episode, but how can you post a video which has content that is entirely someone else's work and not even give them credit, i.e. with a link to the source of the video?
@becauseHeisgood Dude, that's totally cool. I claim no copyrights on this video. Anyone can use it all they want. But you can see my page to see the original. Download it and use it on your page. Get the information out there.
According to Pliny, a 1st century naturalist oft quoted by christians, unicorn is a creature with a horse's body, deer's head, elephant's feet, lion's tail, and one black horn two cubits long projecting from its forehead.
The hebrew word used in all the areas in question is re'em. It translates to a kind of wild ox which could never be mistaken for a rhino.
Some Creationists believe it to be a triceratops.
Regardless, this is a huge mistake from the 'inerrant bible'.
@jwissick - Your misinformation (deliberate or not) is dangerous. You got the Pliny information wrong ("stag's head, elephant's feet, and a boar's tail, the rest of its body being like that of a horse", the meaning of the Hebrew word wrong (the exact meaning of re'em is unknown and "wild ox" is just a guess), and presenting a tiny minority's view as "some."
It's not a mistake. It's accurate. You just don't want to admit it to be so.
They keep trying to destroy the integrity of Scripture and you think these brilliant scientists coudl figure this out if you have been able to by taking the time to carefully understand why not just say its nonesense simply because its the bible.
Well atheist believe in the My little pony version of Unicorn cause they have Santa Syndrome. Yes Santa Syndrome & that make them say things wacky like believing in God is like believe in Santa Clause the Easter Bunny ect. Atheism is madness like ShockofGod said it is & I 100% agree with him.
@jwissick Yea sure sure & atheism is true reality & anything that doesn't agree with atheism is false & atheism is the best thing that happan to the world. Atheism never does anything wrong. It's perfect LOL not. Atheist just want a world where no Christian can speak cause then they can go on & do any ungodly thing that want like swearing, watching porn, lusting after every person they see, doing drug & alchole, & every other bad thing. That's the perfect atheist world.
@jwissick Also the reason ShockofGod is so bad is cause he is getting your atheist buddies to leave atheism & you don't like that. Atheism only makes up 2% of the world population. Meaning if atheism is so true & accurate & correct why are so little people atheist & wanting to leave atheism. I will tell you why cause they know it's false & that there is a God who created the unvierse & the leave it cause atheism is only for those that want to be fool's & be ignorant.
@4ChristGamer So atheism is false because the majority of people in the world believe otherwise? Is this fallacious appeal to popularity really your argument against it? The amount of people who believe in a claim has absolutely no bearing on the veracity of the claim. This is a logical fallacy that a well schooled Christian Apologist would never use. Still, I do agree that this video makes a good argument against the claim that the bible is talking about the mythical unicorn.
@mermaidsareppl2 Yea sure brainwashing people & atheist are completely innocent of that with Evolution LOL. That last question is an inaccurate question cause if something created God then god can't be God cause God is the infinite being & then we should be worship that thing that created that god. But then again I don't expect you to get things like this with your ignorant atheist monkey brain that thinks things just came about by random probability.
@mermaidsareppl2 Wow that's evil of you. Your telling me to kill myself & you wonder why people don't trust atheist cause you dish out insult's like that & then laugh about it. The only thing I can think of that tell's people to kill themselves & other tell themselve's is the one that been a murder from the beginning the Devil. Trust me I enjoy life & Jesus has given me life & going to live a life for him that worth living. Atheism will just lead you to a dead end period.
@mermaidsareppl2 It does then give me those documents that say so cause as far as I know there is no atheist document's that say that & also all atheist is one's own opinion on life so let's say this atheist over here thinks well I can kill people & rape people & no body can tell me I'm wrong cause in the atheist world view there is no abosult right or wrong it's all subjective. So that mean that atheist can then kill you & say he has every right to do so.
@mermaidsareppl2 Also I never support the war in Iraq I didn't agree with what they did over there ether side & if you want to know of truly evil religion of read the Quran. But then again you probably agree with everything that comes out of your higher atheist cult leaders mouth like the Atheist Experiences show & believe both Islam & Christianity are the same when there not. That's truly free thinking hum. Well enjoy your free thinking cause end the end once this life over your done for.
@Dewdaahman The Lord does not Lie... every word that comes out of God's mouth will come to pass or already has. On the flip side satan will and does lie
@tfrIrate my point is, yes there are Unicorns because they were spoken of 9 times in the Holy Bible.. the horse/pointy horn was made up by man hence a lie.. there is truth and there is a lie and God will send you what your soul ask's for.. whatever proceeds out of the mouth comes from the heart.. God gives us a choice.. I agree with your video 100%
I meet people all the time that wish to debunk Christianity and they like to use the 1611 KJV Bible; a very good translation indeed. Nonetheless, the English language has changed in the last 200 years significantly, so what makes us think that it was the same 400 years ago as it is today? This tells me that these people know the Bible is true but they hate God so much that they make straw men to distract people and lead them straight to Hell and away from God's Truth in Jesus Christ. Amen.
@OneFaithMinistries The KJV is a crap translation. That is why it people can use it so well to make christians look like idiots.
We know the bible is false simply by comparing it to what we see in reality. Anyone can do that as long as they haven't poisoned their mind with 'faith' already.
Religion an anaesthetic for the mind that disables your ability to reason properly.
@jwissick - So now you're an expert in translation, too?
You think the Bible is false simply because you are prejudiced against it and uncritically swallow anything anyone says against it. When I actually critically examined the claims against the Bible (e.g. the claims about unicorns) that I had believed for years as an atheist (i.e. when, as you would say, my mind was not "poisoned"), I found them to be exceedingly ignorant or outright dishonest.
Yes, I assume there are no gods. There is a complete absence of evidence that gods exist or that Jesus' miracles are not myth. You believe what is written, we do not. Does that mean the Bible is useless and void of fact, absolutely not.

I understand that this is part of an episode, but how can you post a video which has content that is entirely someone else's work and not even give them credit, i.e. with a link to the source of the video?
becauseHeisgood 11 months ago
@becauseHeisgood Dude, that's totally cool. I claim no copyrights on this video. Anyone can use it all they want. But you can see my page to see the original. Download it and use it on your page. Get the information out there.

I am an unbeliever and a heretic... and I declare this video to be 100% pure pwnage. Bravo to the poster.
ThotherBrother 11 months ago
@ThotherBrother Not quite.
Regardless, this is a huge mistake from the 'inerrant bible'.
jwissick 11 months ago
@jwissick - Your misinformation (deliberate or not) is dangerous. You got the Pliny information wrong ("stag's head, elephant's feet, and a boar's tail, the rest of its body being like that of a horse", the meaning of the Hebrew word wrong (the exact meaning of re'em is unknown and "wild ox" is just a guess), and presenting a tiny minority's view as "some."
It's not a mistake. It's accurate. You just don't want to admit it to be so.

I didn't know about this, but I suspected it was something similar. Have a nice day.

Did anyone else notice the fundamental flaw with this video? Who cares about the Latin vulgate - it's the Hebrew we should be looking at!
And many believe the unicorn was one of the one-horned ceratopsians.
Vertisai 11 months ago
@Vertisai because he is explaining the latin use of the word that was translated. The hebrew is not at issue.

They keep trying to destroy the integrity of Scripture and you think these brilliant scientists coudl figure this out if you have been able to by taking the time to carefully understand why not just say its nonesense simply because its the bible.

godswordsheal 11 months ago
Well atheist believe in the My little pony version of Unicorn cause they have Santa Syndrome. Yes Santa Syndrome & that make them say things wacky like believing in God is like believe in Santa Clause the Easter Bunny ect. Atheism is madness like ShockofGod said it is & I 100% agree with him.
4ChristGamer 11 months ago
@4ChristGamer ShockofGod is a twit who couldn't argue himself out of a wet paper bag.
jwissick 11 months ago
@jwissick Yea sure sure & atheism is true reality & anything that doesn't agree with atheism is false & atheism is the best thing that happan to the world. Atheism never does anything wrong. It's perfect LOL not. Atheist just want a world where no Christian can speak cause then they can go on & do any ungodly thing that want like swearing, watching porn, lusting after every person they see, doing drug & alchole, & every other bad thing. That's the perfect atheist world.
4ChristGamer 11 months ago
@4ChristGamer If that is so, why are the countries with the highest atheist populations the ones with the highest standard of living?
jwissick 11 months ago
@jwissick - You seem to have a problem understanding the issue of causation.
JMcH 11 months ago
@jwissick Also the reason ShockofGod is so bad is cause he is getting your atheist buddies to leave atheism & you don't like that. Atheism only makes up 2% of the world population. Meaning if atheism is so true & accurate & correct why are so little people atheist & wanting to leave atheism. I will tell you why cause they know it's false & that there is a God who created the unvierse & the leave it cause atheism is only for those that want to be fool's & be ignorant.
4ChristGamer 11 months ago
@4ChristGamer So atheism is false because the majority of people in the world believe otherwise? Is this fallacious appeal to popularity really your argument against it? The amount of people who believe in a claim has absolutely no bearing on the veracity of the claim. This is a logical fallacy that a well schooled Christian Apologist would never use. Still, I do agree that this video makes a good argument against the claim that the bible is talking about the mythical unicorn.
rationalwarrior 11 months ago
@4ChristGamer hes bad because hes trying to brainwash people into buying into his religion
if religion and god are true, then which religion and which god are true?
and then who or what created god?
mermaidsareppl2 11 months ago
@mermaidsareppl2 Yea sure brainwashing people & atheist are completely innocent of that with Evolution LOL. That last question is an inaccurate question cause if something created God then god can't be God cause God is the infinite being & then we should be worship that thing that created that god. But then again I don't expect you to get things like this with your ignorant atheist monkey brain that thinks things just came about by random probability.
4ChristGamer 11 months ago
@mermaidsareppl2 Also by the way you should go outside & play with Monkey crap like your Monkey brother & sisters in the Zoo.

why dont you go blow yourself up like your fellow religitards
mermaidsareppl2 11 months ago
@mermaidsareppl2 Wow that's evil of you. Your telling me to kill myself & you wonder why people don't trust atheist cause you dish out insult's like that & then laugh about it. The only thing I can think of that tell's people to kill themselves & other tell themselve's is the one that been a murder from the beginning the Devil. Trust me I enjoy life & Jesus has given me life & going to live a life for him that worth living. Atheism will just lead you to a dead end period.
4ChristGamer 11 months ago
@4ChristGamer why not? your fellow religious people do it over in iraq
atheism leads to free thinking
and life
mermaidsareppl2 11 months ago
@mermaidsareppl2 It does then give me those documents that say so cause as far as I know there is no atheist document's that say that & also all atheist is one's own opinion on life so let's say this atheist over here thinks well I can kill people & rape people & no body can tell me I'm wrong cause in the atheist world view there is no abosult right or wrong it's all subjective. So that mean that atheist can then kill you & say he has every right to do so.
4ChristGamer 11 months ago
@mermaidsareppl2 Also I never support the war in Iraq I didn't agree with what they did over there ether side & if you want to know of truly evil religion of read the Quran. But then again you probably agree with everything that comes out of your higher atheist cult leaders mouth like the Atheist Experiences show & believe both Islam & Christianity are the same when there not. That's truly free thinking hum. Well enjoy your free thinking cause end the end once this life over your done for.

Dewdaahman 11 months ago
@tfrIrate my point is, yes there are Unicorns because they were spoken of 9 times in the Holy Bible.. the horse/pointy horn was made up by man hence a lie.. there is truth and there is a lie and God will send you what your soul ask's for.. whatever proceeds out of the mouth comes from the heart.. God gives us a choice.. I agree with your video 100%
Dewdaahman 11 months ago
I meet people all the time that wish to debunk Christianity and they like to use the 1611 KJV Bible; a very good translation indeed. Nonetheless, the English language has changed in the last 200 years significantly, so what makes us think that it was the same 400 years ago as it is today? This tells me that these people know the Bible is true but they hate God so much that they make straw men to distract people and lead them straight to Hell and away from God's Truth in Jesus Christ. Amen.
OneFaithMinistries 11 months ago
@OneFaithMinistries The KJV is a crap translation. That is why it people can use it so well to make christians look like idiots.
We know the bible is false simply by comparing it to what we see in reality. Anyone can do that as long as they haven't poisoned their mind with 'faith' already.
Religion an anaesthetic for the mind that disables your ability to reason properly.

@jwissick I can see you are in a world of you own. Good Day.
OneFaithMinistries 11 months ago
@jwissick - So now you're an expert in translation, too?
You think the Bible is false simply because you are prejudiced against it and uncritically swallow anything anyone says against it. When I actually critically examined the claims against the Bible (e.g. the claims about unicorns) that I had believed for years as an atheist (i.e. when, as you would say, my mind was not "poisoned"), I found them to be exceedingly ignorant or outright dishonest.
JMcH 11 months ago
This proves that no matter those freaks will say against the Bible, they actually say it against themselves. What a bunch of chaps.
