  • i smoke too much pot

  • dude... I GO TO MADISON WEST HIGH SCHOOL! I had o idea they did a video there.

  • Listening to Jimmy Eat World makes me feel a lot more at peace with where I am.

  • I'm a new JEW fan. I've loved them for nearly 2 years now, but had never seen this video before. Somehow, it gives a new dimension to the song. I love it

  • @floatedimage and all those who said @floatedimage: opinions are opinions but that fact is were all lucky to still be here on this earth...

It's f* crazy how much we complain about the small things that may look like big things to ourselves and we realize later how important or non important they are. The fact is we all live in our own little societies. America is a selfish country. People look at selfish as a negative concept when in reality it is important to survive and be sane..Here

  • i think you all miss the point, its a great song

  • @floatedimage I love how the rest of the world ignorantly, due to pop media, think that every american has everything they could possibly want.

And as far as helping other countries out, how about you all help yourselves out first instead of expecting those that have a little more than you to do it for you? I've been been to most of these countries in Europe...while sure America may have more oppurtunites than most countries, you can't tell me that the rest of the world doesn't have any.

  • Wow people like floatedImage (All 141 thumbs up) need to mind their business. "Ignorance" is not only found in America, its found everywhere. So Floatedimage, before you start looking at all the defects that America may have, why won't you start looking at your own Problems before criticizing others. No one is perfect we all have our problems.

  • when i hear good rock music like this, really makes me wish i was american. i envy ppl living in the States.... My biggest dream to move to the USA.

oh yeah, JEW rock btw ;)

  • How could people put i don't like???

  • It's funny how they're pretty much all 17 but great song and well made video.

  • i love the way everyone is comparing there schools or school years, dude its a song?

  • Can we take a ride? Get out of this place while we still have time...

  • Woot! Madison, represent.

  • I really wish I would of listened to Jimmy eat world more when I was in highschool..cause this is exactly how I felt then..kind of now..but I feel as if life is going to get better as I mature. Same with most..but I can't tell others how there going to feel..just let people experience things on there own.

  • Not our fault, @floatedimage We were born into this. Blame our parents. We are doing what we are told to do. You're being ignorant by not realizing that.

  • @ablevins83 welll fucking said!

  • @ablevins83 Damn, nice. Not all of us are like that, We just wanna fit in.

  • i agree with what said below

  • i meant 2 say stefan

  • the guy at 3:45 sounded like strfan from the vampire diaries

  • if you dont live in america dont talk about it like you know anything about our culture or being raised here.... I dont live in germany..so I dont talk about how germans, french or whoever feel.. cuz I dont know what its like for them ..

  • I hate the american culture, its SOOOOO superficial, i hate when i hear a girl says "I hate my life" or "My life is ruined" i can swear 99% of the boys and girls in nigeria who live literaly in a pile of shit, would kill just to live a couple of years like you, dont be so silly, and enjoy your almos perfect life, you dont know the dark side of the world, and youll never know it, shut up

  • @MrHunterfox you're right that nearly every american lives a thousand times better than a nigerian would. but it's naive to measure yourself with the bottom, while living on top. sure they don't have existencial pressure, but a lot of social pressure. americans were teached that the smallest failure and misdecission at the very beginning, can destroy their entire life. and it isn't useful at all to know that you could live like a god in africa, while living at the usa on the fringe of society...

  • @Shinji85 "Americans were teached that the smallest failure and misdecission at the very beginning, can destroy their entire life" That is true in some places but I was raised if you fail once try and try again till you succeed, don't be a stereotypist asshole, not all americans were taught that way. And I fucked up my life as it is, I am 20 years old trying to come back from General Anxiety Disorder, I was like this since i was a kid, and I gotta tell you besides school, THIS IS A BITCH

  • @blaketriksdurst I guess you're right. Not all are that way, but most of them. And not only america, in all industry nations - the "higher" the society, the higher the pressure to participate on it. I knew GAD, my ex-girl got it too - but because of self-pressuring and her fear of failing. And sad for her, she never came back on her feet for herself. Good for you, that you learned how to do the rolypol-toy. Be glad for that.

  • I have fallen in love with the tree from the video... ♥

  • good video and song... brings back memories..

  • This is so Americany :P <3

  • Wow I think this song came out when I was still in high school. Man how times have changed.

  • @floatedimage

Thank you for expressing your opinion without insulting Americans.

  • Damn it. This sing made me so nostalgic. It's making me think back to my high school days...

  • /watch?v=GEZLd3Bk10U

    watch this pretty good

  • i must be fucking old.. i'm listening to this song and i get nostalgic.. sigh.. is it gonna be all downhill from here?

Damn I wish I was still a kid enjoying good music and feeling inspired to face the future..

Now it's like go to work, come back from work, do something on the weekend..

  • @sidiqmk that was well said

  • those who critize my generation forgot who raised it

  • this song is similar to the style vindicated- dashboard confessional has.

  • I <3 Jimmy eat world , beautiful songs !! =)

  • Man I had this music video uploaded on youtube for about 4 years and they deleted this. Good to see it back on

  • I really don't care what other think about me in school I'm called "the guy who never talks" like they are saying I'm a questionable guy and people ask me why I don't ever talk I just shrug at them

  • that teenargers need to know whats important...

the popular ppl are just persons that other persons know in a school... where i live that doesnt happen... we are just teenagers and the girl or boy who think that she/he is better than other, is a stupid that we use to ignore (except if u r stupid)...

btw i live in chile, sorry bout my poor english

  • I think this vid captures the raw feeling of growing up really well.

  • My dad went to that high school. :D

  • no hes not dead

  • did he die?

  • for a second i thought i saw jim carrey

  • Even people from america can get sad and can feel sorry for themselves, it dosn't matter where your from. That's whats so great and that is what makes every individual unique. Everyone feels something, The us is just promote it better :)

  • dude i agree with u and im from the states..kids need to grow up and stop bitchin at what they dont have and live for what they do have cuz yes we are very lucky to live in this country that gives so much and yet the country criticizes the goverment just to have somethin to bitch about

  • @XxrougecellxX Well the government sucks most definitely. But it is true, us Americans have to complain about something.

  • @floatedimage you're missing the point. This song is about the anxiety of growing up and being an adult and taking responsibility for yourself. But everyone has angst about that, even people outside the states

  • @floatedimage but in all fairness, most of us americans havent lived in a less privelidged country so we dont have anything else to compare it to realistically. And everyone has to have their problems, we just have different ones man

  • @floatedimage well yeah on the other hand the teenage American melancholy is what generated this genre of music. Emotive rock did not come out of Afghanistan or Switzerland precisely because those teenagers "have realized how lucky they are"- so call the american teenagers ignorant but i got news for you people who are really happy all the time dont write songs like this.

  • you gotta look at it from our perspective

we do get many things we do want but we still are hurting inside no matter what our social status is. im in high school i have a lotta great things but i still find myself being fairly unhappy due to other people my age people really dont value the right things, im nice but just okay looking but being nice isnt good enough. we've all got problems no matter what age, social status, or economic class.

  • @skatr1234 i agree with you. your always trying to find that one thing to make you happy. eg. i cant wait till i turn 16 to drive a car. once your turn 16 you cant wait to turn 18 and move out. then its 21 to drink and so on. you wont ever be satisfied untill you realise untill you are content with who you are, not your things

  • @Crazyrandomcrazy thats why i have always felt that the best way to feel better about your problems is to help someone else with theirs, For me its like a healing process

  • @centralbeeee yeah when you help other people it makes you feel better about yourself because you know that they are happy because of you

  • @floatedimage Good insight

  • @floatedimage every kid wants to be accepted by their friends. if you think about it most the things people do is to better their image not for themselves, but for others. thats not how it should be. you need to learn how to help yourself before you start trying to help others. ignorance is bliss

  • @floatedimage ... THATS SO TRUE Dx !!! IMAGINE THEY LIVE HERE IN MEXICO JAJAJA IT SUUCKS Dx

  • @floatedimage You can lump a giant group of people into one generalized idea. America does have a high amount of "lucky" people yes... but we weren't all so lucky.. but you can still find the beaten and abused, the poor and hungry, the misguided youths that aren't sulking for attention by the media.. some of us are sad because we have to be surrounded by the fortunate and have nothing ourselves

  • @robberyrevolver thats true man

  • @robberyrevolver

I believe floatedimage was referencing the teens in the video, they certainly do not seem to be Americans who do not go without food everyday but look more like middle class American teenagers.

If you are able to eat food everyday, count yourself lucky because large parts of the world can't. Though problems such as abusive parents and such are different and harder to cure.

  • @floatedimage amen to that

  • @floatedimage true, but are kids in Europe any different?

  • @floatedimage

You have NO idea what your saying. I'm from Chicago but have lived in Austria for two years and life in Europe (EU countries anyways) is WAY easier than in America. You have to understand that in America 45-60 hour work weeks, 2 weeks vaca is normal to most people and little to no social benefits. Its not at all like you see on the news. I come from a pretty well off family and I can tell you education, working and vacation time is all better spent in Europe!

  • @lyklinkme pretty sure he's talking about most of Africa and the Middle East.

  • @floatedimage lots of other countries are more advantages though in things like heathcare and education.

  • @floatedimage no we should worry about our own country because we're in enough trouble ourselves.

  • @floatedimage Keep in mind generalizations can, by definition, never be accurate. There are always good people. I live my life every day, and am always comforted by the knowledge that there are those out there who care. There are those who do what is right, who do not follow the groove set by small-minded people. It is as the saying goes: Poor minds talk about people, average minds talk about events, great minds talk about ideas. There is always hope for good.

  • @floatedimage Not as lucky as their parents were--the rest of the world is quickly catching up to America. Its "privilege" is surely vanishing. I for one think Europe has it better than US in many ways.

American kids need to work harder than ever before

  • @floatedimage Totally agree, only few countries on this planet are ,,comfortable''.

  • @floatedimage

All that is true, but it's hardly their fault. The society is built around them pushing themselves. if they don't, they're looked down upon by their family. Although the parents tell you to help out others, the way society is established, you should look out for yourself, and only once you're in a position of strength, should you help out people who need it.

So while they should do such, it's an issue with the society, and not with the kids

  • @floatedimage

  • @floatedimage

i see where you are coming from but what is sounds like is that since we come from America its so great that we have to be invincible to every thing else. but we are only human and that is are culture.

  • @floatedimage what you say is true but feelings are feelings. we dont choose to feel sad it just happens. but i would love to help people and if i am rich when im older i plan to help the world as much as possible.

  • @AxDdWn9491 dont need to be rich to help the world

  • @floatedimage Not all of us are like that, man.

  • @floatedimage Moreso, not all of us are rich.. I'm not comparing our poverty to other countries, but not all of us are so lucky.

  • @floatedimage I completely agree...and I'm an American kid.

  • @floatedimage This was my graduation year. Honestly, I think how lucky I was BACK THEN and look at my life TODAY. Back then wasn't all that great, today is worse. Sometimes you want to hold onto your past and can't let it go because what's going on NOW is just horrible. That's how I feel. By the way walking to school in a Wisconsin winter is like walking thru an arctic winter storm

  • @floatedimage thats not what the song is about at all, tardo.

its about growing up and becoming what you want to be.

its the american dream, not america's ignorance.

if you want to judge something at least figure out what you're talking about.

  • @floatedimage

I agree with your views in general but not in the context of this song. This song is about the feeling's of youth and wondering about your future and wanting better for yourself while questioning where you currently are and where you want to be. There's nothing in here about prom or being popular.

  • @floatedimage 1st off dont generalize american kids. They're not just american and they're not just kids. They're PEOPLE.

Young people at that, who dont know what they want in life. There may be many opportunities in America like u say but thats not what its about it.

Its about realizing if those opportunities are the right ones for you. Its about finding out who u are once society tells u ur an adult.

Not all American youth is obsessed with their image. Thats ignorant on ur part.

  • this song is the anthem to every ones lives. thats the way it was ment to be

  • sorry..but work is crap!!!!!!!!!!!!!!..work is slavery..we waste our lives..

  • hahhaha what? hahahah, its a good song, chill, work is necessary, dont be a bum

  • he sounds like a hillbilly

  • Why wasn't this song number 1 in the charts? GRRRRRRR >:-(

  • Dude this song is thr story of my life

  • I have to completely agree with you.

  • singer looks like jim carrey

  • @BBfreak8 LOL

  • @BBfreak8

    hahaha he does too! :P

  • i know right! and his name's jim too... so weird haha

  • @BBfreak8 i always thought he looked like johnny depp.

  • bro learn how to talk

  • lOl its OkaY nO 'OFFENCE' takEn fRoM sOmeOne WhO tAlKs likE THIS! ..lmao

  • learn how to spell and capitalize

  • get a life

  • High school life is a wonderful memory. This song make me remember my high school life. Good song!

  • Melodic version of Blink 182. This time i will be good, 5/5.

  • It's good ^^

  • <3<3

  • Man, I am never tired of listening to this song because of the wonderful lyrics and a good music video

  • That's awesome..

  • this song is soo good its heart breaking

  • You choose your sorrows long before they befall you. Same goes for your joys. What ever you do now will effect what your future is so just try your best. That way youll never wonder about the what if's.

  • @Crazyrandomcrazy "You choose your sorrows long before they befall you" thats beautiful did you get that from somewhere, it sounds biblical

  • @centralbeeee one of my old teachers told me that and i thought wow, your right. i never forgot what he said

  • Madison Wisc Represent!! Ow Oww. Great song. Love it.

  • I love this song..

But every time i listen to it, I cry.

It makes me so effing scared..

    Will I graduate high school?

    Will I go to college?

Will I be in the medical field?

Will I have a nice house?..

It makes me so scared I might fail...

  • trust in your self and you will be fine work to the best of your abbility and accept life as it comes your not the only one wo feals this way thats life take it one step at a time and you will be fine

  • i'd suggest taking as many steps as possible at a time. RUN towards your destiny.

  • a bit fearless are we??? lol

  • the fact that you're scare that you might fail will prolly hold you back from making the right decision at a lot of points in life.. get over it, get confident. you started out with nothing, everything you get from when you where a baby is more than you had to begin with,.

  • This song is awesome!!

  • Its not about what your going to be when your grow up. Its about who are you becoming.

Success isn't marked by worldly things, but the life that you have lived, and the kind of person you have been.

  • You should listen to Ali in the jungle by The Hours its a good song..what you said reminded me of this song....its more indie but the lyrics are great and its a really good song.

  • dude thanks telling me about them. I love it. new favorite song for sure.

  • dope video .

  • lol i can relate my self to this song : ]

  • when the video starts, it looks like "made" on mtv xD....but it's a really good song ;)

  • its from the album " futures "

  • Madison Wisconsin ftw.

  • This is such a great song. Its so true.

  • hey

  • which album is this from??

  • i believe its on futures

  • Beautiful video for a beautiful song, though it's very emotional too. I'm in college now and the mantra "get out of this place while we still have time" is as true as ever.

  • what is the meaning behind this song?

  • its about a lot of things really you can draw your own conclusions but to me its about relationships and growing up and moving on. he starts doubting it (possibly workmate) then the early stages of dating then a fight/disagreement at the end. Throughout the song keeps singing he wants to get out of the town while he can (btw im siddif88's alt account)

  • he looks good with this hairdo

    Jimmy Eat World 4ever

  • jim adkins kinda looks like a young gavin rossdale.

  • this is a very good song :)

  • Decent song, amazing video.

  • ZOOOOOMFGGGGG soo AWSOME XD

  • He grew his hair :S

  • No he just forgot to cut it..

  • favorite song.

  • This song gives me a lump in my throat......about my painful teenage....anger, hate, no love, confusion, frustration, abandonment, isolation, boredom, disinterest.......all comes out......Time's the healer...

  • You're so right... I was this type of teenager too... But like you said, time's the healer :) Take Care Bro

  • .. work and play they're never okay to mix the way we do. :)

  • i dont work hard, and im paying for it. im about to fail out of school. yet i feel ok. ive always felt alright not doing enough. i know im gonna pay for it in the future yet my emotions dont change. i think i need to spend some time on the streets.

  • sadly i am the same way i am in my senior year and i am over a year behind in credits i am in a credit recovery school now and i am paying now for my horrible choices earlier in my high school career yet i retain my laid back indifferent attitude yet i want to go to college but at the same time i could care less if i don't

  • w/e happens i think well be ok. its the ppl who care about me im worried about. b/c they want to see me succeed.

  • yea me 2 ,u gotta point!!

  • maybe you're afraid to want anything because you might not get it. You won't be able to handle the disappointment.

    Just a thought.

  • this song is so good,I really like jimmyeatworld.

  • There best song :)

  • Best lyrics ever!

  • this song relates to me in some way ^^

Jimmy Eat World, my fav band everrrr x)

  • I sang this on my elementary school talent show in the 6th grade actually it was 2 days ago haha i WON!

yay i wouldnt have won if jimmy eat world didnt create this song!

  • lol dude gratz !

  • Ok so i glanced at this video and the singer kind of looks like Jim Carey. Anyone agree?

  • yeah slightly

  • a lil

  • people parents are so afraid that their kids do EVERYTHINGS WRONG but is a part of learning

they did it we NEED to do it TOO ( i totally agree)

when parents will be able to understand that

gosh !! life will be SO MUCH BETTER!!!

  • I should write that down... It's a good reminder to my parents..

  • thats true but there are sime things we need to take their advice on cause it cant be undone or is very addicting

but yeah parents hould give us more faith
