I walked in late at BeeHive years ago and saw these three dudes in suits playin the most solid S*** ive heard since the 60s. It sounded great in that little old place. Then came Charlie Hunter and Jazz mandolin. Yawn. Soulive was the first and best. I bought turn it out that night and turned several on
Uh... You might not be used to a cam recording of an organ as bass, so it may seem out of tune/key to you. It seems right on to me and the people who are watching with me agree. That is probably why the yuppies are bobbing their heads.
soulive kicks ass. this is my favorite song by them. the one sad part is there is absolutly no way to do their live sound justice as good as this video is. its in the name, this is a band you have to see LIVE!
About 5 yrs a go I walked into the Beehive (i think) and had never heard of them yet. They opened for Jazz Mandolin and a few others. I came in a few minutes late through the side and there was this awesome new sound. Three guys in tuxes and no bass player. They always rock the house!
YES this is the stuff I wanna hear on the radio and in clubs and EVERYWHERE! People need to get onto the real music rather than those mainstream losers who keep sampling and ripping people off. Real musicians make real music =oD
ceddgar8, you can't be more true. I'm having issues with a major recording jazz artist right now because of that. I played a tune while he was sitting outside and he damn near broke his neck getting to me to tell me stop playing his board. Real musicians appreciate, not hate or compare. I learn from everyone and anyone, regardless of where your music takes you. Soulive is a feeling band...I love what these cats do, and highly respect their craft. Rock on folks.
I think he problem with these Guys who keep calling Soulive a cheap knock off first have not been to a Soulive concert and second don't understand that you can't compair on artist or a group to another. I Know Charlie and Eric, Neal and Evan personally.
Besides they tend to work overseas mainly because real art work is not accepted well in the States. Japan seems to love jazz more than we do. Take a look at Soulive's resume and you'll be suprised. Many ole skool artist run on tour with them simply because they are ahead of their time.
Real musicians and music don't waste time compairing rather they enjoy, respect, and share with like mained people. Those who chose to compair more than likely are not signed to any label nor could produce anything worth listening to. Why...Too close minded!
what drives me nuts is this band should be hugeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee and its not..i do not get it ..soulive is proably one of the best quartets/trios whatever u wanna call them right now they go back and forth..but..overall theres noone like soulive
yeah, no one like soulive, everyone else doin this kinda music is really taking it out there, Soulive is watered down smooth jazz version of jazz/funk. this band is way too big already for how good they are. If you want the real funk, check out MMW, charlie Hunter, John Scofield. those are the cats doin it now, soulive is a cheap knock off....
I love John Scofield, and have given a listen to Charlie Hunter and MMW, but they don't compare at all. "Cheap knock off" is pretty harsh though, it's not like they've done anything to impair those other guys, who have pretty solid careers themselves. When's the last time you saw Soulive in concert anyway? They fucking rock
i get to see this crew in birmingham next week! cant wait!

Kraz is a badass in this video. His guitar is a little out of tune for sure, but with the way he plays that thing, its not a surprise.
Man...hes got soul.

Eric and Charlie are ironically neighbors and they respect each other greatly. What you guys miss is that they are doing music the way they want to.

Good sound quality?
And if Soulive is so bad, then why do they play at all the major festivals?
