I was there .. I grew up in Switzerland and was eighteen years old when I was in Montreux for Canned Heat, Deep Purple, Brian Auger & Julie Driscol etc. Thanks for the memory ... +
Hi, I see from your profile that you're from Switzerland and that you're 57 years old, so I guess you were there? Looks like it was a great concert, judging from these 3 songs, I wonder if the Swiss TV still has the rest of the footage...
Yes, I saw a lot of concerts in the Casino before "the Smoke on the Water (Ten Years After, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Taste, Canned Heat, ...) Thank you Mr Claude Nobs !
Yes, Claude Nobs - a cult figure for sure. I love all those bands you've mentioned, but seeing Taste live, now that was rare! Rory performed 5 times later on his own at the Montreux festival, though... he also performed in my hometown, Novi Sad (Serbia) in 1985, not so many bands performed at that time in Eastern Europe...
The great Alan Wilson. Too bad Larry Taylor and Henry Vestine could not get along. The band was the real boogie deal. They should be in the Hall of Fame. It just doesn't make scense that they are not. The hall admits too much crap and leaves of the Heat and the Moody Blues. The Hall of Fame is a shame.
@jazmaan the rock and roll hall of shame is just a tourist trap to fund corporate fat cats. it has nothing to do with music. or music history. its an amusement park. thats why i dont get pissed when a lot of my favorite artists aren't included for not being media exploited enough. the whole things a joke.
Glad you're diggin' it. I got this footage years ago in a trading with a friend - turned out the DVD was full of rare vids from the Alan Wilson era.
What I want to know though is if there's more footage from this gig, as it was professionally filmed, and of course is there a better quality... but for now, this is it.
It'd be so great to hunt down the rest of this footage. It would kind of be like Alan and Bob searching for rare blues records for their collection back in the day :)
