The young catherine is a bit of a weird character. Wishy washy and mean, horridly mean. 'You must listen to me....' No. It bothers me you sound French! I'll keep going - only two parts left. But what a shame for RF to be sunk in this terrible adaptation. I know it has its fans but classic theater comes with some obligations here unmet.
Hareton is the most positive character here; he is strong, gentle, modest etc. Even though he knows what heathcliff’d done to his family he loves and respects him. I like him very mach. :)))
@ChildOfTheFlower he turned sideways so when he was buried next to her, catherine would be looking at heathcliff and giving her back to edgar........it was the ultimate sing of disrespect to edgar and to prove his love for catherine
I almost think this Cathy has more guts than the first one. Cathy#1 was a conceited, insensitive queen-bee. Cathy#2 has the ability to grow and understand her mistakes and even though she grew up in the Grange, she was less of a snob than Cathy#1.
i didnt understand anything of the story people say it amazing but till now it's a bunch of mad people living together! could you tell me why you like it? and tell me the story!? cause i'm confused
@mimikitten1 you have to read the book to understand!!! and look behind the actions to see motivations and behind motivations to see the causes!!! then you can see clearly why people love so much this story which gives a portrait without any concession, about the degree human's deelings could reach if they are exposed to hard test
2:30: I love that scene even though it's sad. For a moment, her mother seems to look out through her eyes. Poor girl. And whooo boy, her cousin is cute as all heck.
i don't know why, but this last part reminds me so much of beauty and the beast, the way cathy starts to see past hareton's rough exterior in the way he can be sensitive to animals... ahhh so sweet
@heyallchump he blames cathy because catherine died just after her birth. Yeah, o course, this isn't strong reason enought to hate Cathy; but this is Heathcliff, he must be animately by a passion... my it be love or hate...
actually this last half is better-cathy and Heridens story-I feel more-then this versions Cathy and Heathcliffs story-I like the last third of story--ck out 2009 version--and I love the song by Pat Benetar-"Wuthering Hieghts"using the 2009 actors
the 2009 version with Tom Hardy blows this away--never seen a version and there are many that makes me understand their love and bond as that one does-I even cry at the end because their love is hauntinglyeternal
0.27: 'I want my children about me.' Haha! It's the way he says it, as if the word children has very bad taste. Very good acting. That scene with the book is great, and the end of the dinner, such an emotional climax.
LOL I love Juliette Binoche she's can do anything she's so darling. Have you seen 'The English Patient' she's in it again with Ralph Fiennes (who plays Heathcliff). His brother Joseph Fiennes has the same smoldering brooding eyes. These gorgeous Welsh men are so impossible to resist that darker Mediteranean skin and dark hair sometimes with light eyes.
I have always felt so bad for Hareton. Nothing at all was his fault, yet he has beend abused and exploited by everyone around him. He's really a sensitive, gentle soul, but his hard shell is caused by his upbringing. Poor guy!
Totally. I reckon he and Edgar (Linton 1) are the most sympathetic and fragile characters in the novel. I felt especially sorry for Edgar ever since Heathcliff arrived (in the book). Urrgh..Heathcliff is so intimidating!!! Everything goes at his terms! Annoying.
Hareton is not properly the son of Hithcliff; he was born from Hindley (Catherine's brother) and his wife at the beginning of the novel); but when Hindley dies, Hithcliff became owner of Wuthering Heights and someway of Hareton too.
heathcliff is still wanting to get revenge on the lintons. he manipulatively wants his own son to marry cathy so that when edgar dies, heathcliff can inherit thrushcross grange with all its riches.
well that's because it was also Isabella's son, who he didn't love, and who is the sister of Edgar, who he despises for having married his dear Cathy....
Think of it though - it must be painful for Heathcliff to watch Cathy and Hareton become close and horse around just as himself and the first Cathy did when they were young.
she prefered Linton in the begining becasue Hareton was 'below' her socially and he had a really bad temper and called her a sult and so on, but in the end she loved him better then Linton
"You must learn to avoid putting me in a passion or I shall really murder you some time." That line has always amused me. He's just freaking crazy at this point.
everything is happening so damn fast!! If I wouldn't have read the book first I wouldn't have found the movie completely coherent. The story doesn't flow well here
