well, latin is hard to pronounce correctly for ANYone!! Even germans! And Italians is doing it in new italian style...so language of wisdom or not...........! By the way, a lot of us understands very much of the words anyhow!!!!!
I'm surprised that a British church choir has such pronounced diphthongs in their Latin: Gow-daay-taay rather than Gow-deh-teh. Listen to the Kings' Singers sing this. But this is a great arrangement and they have a beautiful blend.
I don't find their pronunciation bad, actually, though I'm not that familar with this form of Latin. Ecclesiastical Latin is pronounced differently to the language the ancient Romans spoke - it's more like Italian. Hence things like 'virgine' - in the ancient language, that would be pronounced 'weerginnay', but in religious music 'veerjinay' is normal.
Makes the classicist in me shudder a little bit, but that's the way it's meant to be! ;)
I've now listened to probably 15 different versions of "Gaudete" on YouTube - following the recommendations of other users - but I still think this is by far the most beautiful version. :-)
Yeah if I remember correctly it has 4 verses... And I can only remember two. The first and the third... Though the translation we did was different...
Very good for what it is, but I find this song really does benefit from some nice booming tenor and bass. Performed in a gothic church by a good SATB choir, there's nothing as can beat this song.
Most excellent. Gentlemen...I thank you. You have accomplished a great deal and have much to be satisfied and proud of. You are an inspiration to my nine children. May God continue to bless you all.
Thank you again Lads, my oldest son is now in Afghanistan in the same hell hole place his brother was, I take comfort in your singing this, my prayer for his and his mens safety.
They do quite well, wherever they're from. Latin is a really hard language to pronounce, lest you're from say.. Italy or such? Finns do quite well too, since we pronounce our words the way they're written, as latin is often (not in all cases) pronounced. The "r" they use is particulaly hard for someone who's used to pronouncing english
latin is a dead language. No one knows fore shure how it is pronounced to day, so stop making such a foss about it, just enjoy it. I love this carol! (if any miss spellings, excuse me, I am a dane.) Good job lads! 5* from me...
@Sumpfdolde The song is about Jesus and Maria. Jesus... u know, who died for our us. Those children try to sing a song about this person. It is unacceptable to talk like this about people, who have this kind of motivation! Greetings from Hungary
@Sumpfdolde Well, aren't we pretentious. For God's sake, just enjoy this beautiful song and the brilliant voices. Who cares if the pronounciation isn't perfect?! They didn't major in Latin, they're kids. Oh, and by the way, they're not American either. Check your facts.
@Sumpfdolde Don't be a hater... plenty of us Americans can annunciate Latin perfectly. And we are not dump or dumb for that matter. Perhaps if you expanded your horizons beyond your backyard you would see this.
I played this video every night whilst my second son was serving in Helmand prov Afghanistan,(oct - april)
I never was one much for praying so this brilliant team of lads did it for me through thier singing, Big Thank You Lads, he's now home safe, His older Bro goes there in september, Guess i'll be calling upon ur services again fella's.
Have performed this before, enjoyed this presentation immensely. Noted most of the pans had spelling errors in them. Coincidence? It's a good arrangement for excellent harmonies.
well i must have listened to 50 versions of this now, and none of them beat this one, keep on singing lads, ur bringing happiness to people all over. excellent
I'm in love with this version. I play it several times a day. The Medieval and Renaissance Christmas carols are the most wonderful. I love Riu Riu Chiu also.
That's why they used to create castrati. The most beautiful voices in history--a boy soprano with the lungs of a man. The contrast between such cruelty and such beauty is heartwrenching.
wow those kids have high voices! ive never heard it with the drums in the background, but it's realy good :D especialy for a young boy's choir. 5/5 :DDD i don't think our school choir is half that good :D
When and where was this actualy filmed, this is the most brilliant tear jerking piece of singing thats yet fallen upon my ears, I hope these guys are still singing
The translation of the carol Chorus:- Gaudete,Gaudete, Christus est natus, Rejoice Rejoice Christ is born Ex Marua Virginae Gaudete Of the Virgin Mary Rejoice Ch- Gaudete etc. Tempus ad et Gratiae hoc quodoptabamus The time of Grace is here, that which we desire Carmina laetitiae devote redamus Let us recite with devotion a song of joy. Ch- Gaudete etc.
verses 3+4 Deus Homo Factus est naturam eralite God is made man in erring nature Mundus renovatus est a Christo regnante The world is restored by the reinging Christ. Ch- Gaudete etc. Ezecheclis porta clausa per transitor Passing through Ezekial's closed gate Unde lux est orta sallus invenitor Whence The Light has risen salvation has appeared. Ch- Gaudete etc.
