The fed dumped 200 billion on international markets after lehman crashed to slow the panic. Look at the libor in october of last year it went up 300% and has since dropped to normal. As I have said, I don't use drugs or condone the use of drugs. They should be legalized and treated like tobacco or alcohol. Punish illegal trafficking and smuggling, and take the money that would have been used on imprisonment and spend it on treatment for people who want it. The system we have now is not working. It's supply & demand. We reduce supply but not demand, and create a black market and the attendant crime. We need to reduce demand. Telling people drugs are bad doesn't seem to work.

As I have said, I don't use drugs or condone the use of drugs. They should be legalized and treated like tobacco or alcohol. Punish illegal trafficking and smuggling, and take the money that would have been used on imprisonment and spend it on treatment for people who want it. The system we have now is not working. It's supply & demand. We reduce supply but not demand, and create a black market and the attendant crime. We need to reduce demand. Telling people drugs are bad doesn't seem to work.

I guess you're right, I mean,the govt. has only been trying to eradicate drugs for that last 40 years. I guess we should give them more time. And while we are at it, lets ban alcohol again. There is twice the amount of violent crime due to alcohol, not to mention dui's, traffic accidents, liver and heart disease. It didn't work in the 1920's, but who cares. In a couple hundred years, they will eradicate all drugs and alcohol. Or maybe not, but we can still keep throwing money at the problem.

Victims of violent crime reported that the offender was under the influence of drugs about 7% of the time, and under the influence of alcohol about 14% of the time, and reported that the offender was completely sober about 23% of the time. And, to reiterate, anyone who harms another person should be punished. Punishing possession or use of drugs is a waste of resources.

Granted, but what about marijuana, cocaine, crystal meth, opium, mushrooms, LSD, PCP, MDMA, ad nauseum.... And they are all breaking the law, that is part of the attraction. They are rebelling, and we are serving them the most deadly things with which they rebel. I'd support Ron Paul if he wasn't in support of legalizing marijuana. He makes more fiscal sense than any other candidate who ran in 2008. Now it's too late. We've voted a man who's anti-prosperity, and now we will all feel the pain of that choice.

-gregoric1, what you need to realize is that the legalization of drugs, all of them, is the best thing for this country. I don't do drugs, nor do I condone their use, but, making them illegal has only created problems. We should have learned from the prohibition of alcohol in the 1920's, but we did not. If you criminalize any commodity, you drive up it's price. If drugs were legal, no one would be getting killed in the street over them. The pursuit of happiness, I believe it is called.

your view of the fed is completely false. Long term deflation does not hurt anyone. To be hurt you have to have money sitting in a savings account. People do not. They typically have money invested in job producing companies or rentable housing. These investments are tax advantaged also. Cool. Their was a great interview on 60 minutes with bernanke that blew my mind. He got a 1590 of 1600 on his sat's. The fed has 22,000 employees. If the fed was eliminated as the gnome of doom wants, who clears all of my atm withdrawls, this is a job of the fed also. Congress approved the bank bailout 1 week before the worst hit in the second week of october last year. Narrowly missed a depression. The fed did it's job.
