Dr. Kalich literally saved my life by teaching me this exam. We found a cancerous tumor after 2 digital mammograms and three other physicians missed it. A needle biopsy also missed the tumor. Only Dr. Kalich and I could feel the tumor which turned out to be invasive lobular cancer that had already spread to a lymph node. Almost 20% of all cancers are this type and NEVER show up on a mammogram. Sonograms and MRIs will pick up this type of cancer. I find it easier to do this exam sitting up.
