all my party died and i was just running from it then i attacked with my staff i have a epic tactic for one mage go to the gong and use a staff on it and it will fly up run down to where the dragon was and use the staff it will hardly get you (it will only get you if you do not follow these instructions you stay away from the tail and head,be prepared to run back to where you where the dragon ans a trick move it goes to fly then pulls you in if so leg it) when it has low hp a use a sword 1hp
i barely killed that monster, i used all my health and mana potions (30:10), party members were two warriors, a battle mage and a healer. still, it was worth is. especially the reward ^^

I beat it in level 18 (because I finished the last Blight quest in mine, Brecilian, in lvl 18). He wasn't hard in that level, really. Used Alistair and Shale as my tank, Wynne and myself (Arcane Warrior + Spirit Healer) as healers, my self as back up DPS. She went down without any fuss and fast, too. Only used 3/2 Lyrium, and some Poultices (not too many either) maybe 4?5?

For me. Just keep the range and mage faraway from the dragon and let the dragon rape the tank, keep wynne cast heal,regen to keep tank alive. That's all

I just beat this guy. Took 5 tries on normal and I beat him with lvl 11 people. Im on xbox. I had to do 75% of the fight with my main person (mage). He was easy when you find a strategy just a long fight when you gotta fight with one person who's lvl 11

@ShaolinViolin shes real tough depends how well your geared what diff and if your cheaping it the dragon doest move just flys to other spots so you can sit back and shoot arrows until it dies,but going headon is alot more fun
You were much smarter than me while killing him. I did it solo with my ranger, summoned my bear over and over so the dragon would focus on it. while my ranger was standing back shooting arrows and throwing bombs and setting traps. I died the first time.
I beat the high dragon with my macabi after the rest of the party was slaughtered! it was hilarious. It took me about a half an hour and about forty health potions. the macabi runs fast so I was able to keep biting the dragon's hind legs. I also had the macabi 20% fire resistant warpaint on. Jesus, it was so funny! I wish I knew how to make a videos of this shit! Come to think about it...pretty sad.
My tactic was to send a warrior to fight, and cast force field on him repeatedly, while doing Inferno, Blizzard, Tempest skills on the dragon. It's cool, cos the dragon keeps attacking your warrior who is invincible because of the force field.
As long as you have a tank that can withstand the damage in this battle you basically won as long as you have enough lyrium potions and watch your threat. I did this battle with a level 12/13 party on hard.
well i have sten with the ageless greatsword and dragonbone plate alistair with the saw sword heavykite shield and templar armor zevran with antivan bow and me with a hawk eye bow and dragonbone dagger and the green blade and all of them are lvl 15 do i stand a chance?
killed this thing with one lvl 10 char, no hacks / glitches... just red-steel heavy plate, dragon's bane greatsword and pendant of blightquelling. bane doubles damage when used against a dragon and halves ALL damage taken by a dragon, on crits it does 25% of current dragon hp. pendant heals me equal to 70% of damage on crits, and the armor is enchanted with 50% fireproof =D pwnage char...
im yet a noob in this game but i like it yesterday i was doing the ashes urn quest or however its called, i saw a gong i punched it this dragon came up killed all my team but it seemeed like he was stuck on the gong i just ran back with 1 character morrigan an started to use 2 spells took me like 15 minutes to kill it but whatever 30g thanks lol

My dog killed him when dragon was more than 3/4hp lol he couldn't seem to reach the dog for some reason so he just sat there bighting his legs and won but he did manage to stun me a couple times :S
Would be awesome to save the two last Old Gods (dragons) from the darkspawn and aid the rest of the dragons and Thedas against both the qunari and the darkspawn. Would be epic. High dragons aint evil, archdemons are.
i killed the dragon with just morrigan and the grey warden......use the structur, the like temple thing and lure it inside and it becomes quite vulnerable....blizzard will freeze the thing off and on sometimes and i worked on it with the grey warden....and got a sweet kill with the grey warden, grey warden jumped on the back of its head and cut its head off.......awesome stuff :)
question,there is a cheat where you can be a dragon so i used it and when i do the dragon that am wont show up when i need to fight it and i can only use the dragon that i am fighting and my little partners start attacking me(i call them partners),why?
I constantly died after trying this for a few hours last night. So, tonight i went ahead and did the Dwarf quests and the Broodmother. I am now level 15 and will give this another go tomorrow. If anyone is having problem with this, do what I did and run through the aforementioned quest chain. If you are able to wear the Legion of the Dead armor set, and side with Caridin and grab Branka's loot, you can have a good shot at it. Should also point out that I'm a Champion (warrior). :)
This was a hard fight for me first time I fought it. I skipped this and came back when I was stronger. I used Aerith (npc human warrior), Zervan (rogue), Morrigan (mage), and Wynne (mage). I made sure that Morrigan knew Revival before killing the dragon.
First time I did this I got totally raped then I showed my friends how rapetastic the dragon Was and I wasted the dragon. I used myself (warrior) alister (warrior) war dog & morrigan (Mage) we were all around level 12 it was on ps3
first time on computer i did this with mage dps oghren tank zevran and wynne. he killed our ass fast so i took wynne and stayed out of range of fire spit and massive attack and used a staff to slowly but surely get him all the way down from half.
I think the first time I beat him at level 15, second time I beat him at level 12 or 13 with Shale as tank, myself (Human warrior dps) Wynne as healer and buffs and Morrigan as Magic dps, disable, some healing and buffs
I used me of course (warrior), Alistair (he's just there), Wynne, (healer) and Leliana (ranged attacks). all i really did was tossed 4 acid flasks at him while they are goin off on it, then i coated my sword in flames and just... kept attacking, Wynne is beast with her healing as i have all the talents for it. For anyone who is curious, it is well worth the tries as you get a crapload of items.
I used Aedan (Warrior), Morrigan (Mage), Wynne (Mage) and Leliana (Rogue). Before I blow the horn I sent the hole party in that small colloseum (at the right on the map) less Aedan which i put him at the entrance. Then I called the mofo. Now this guy is not enterin in the colloseum..is to big I guess..so I stayed in his back and hit him and I let the ladies do the job from the back of the colloseum (ice arrows and spells). When your health drops low, use Wynne (hlth)
i think my preferred party is: me (warrior but fills multiple roles because im awesome like that), wynne, leliana, and sten. ive never even used shale really, lol. well i guess sten or morrigan, either way the dragon gets owned. but i always have had leliana and wynne.
if you just run your tank around this dragon becomes super-easy as he will deal very little damage to your tank so a healer can keep him alive with just the mana he/she regenerates, no potions needed. Works on nightmare.
There are even lamer tricks that you can do that take advantage of the dragon's stupidity even more, but the above is easiest to figure out how to do.
Of course if you have more than 1 healer you don't even need to micro anything on nightmare without potions (>1 mage is OP).
@artem101 Not really, you have plenty of mana to keep him in there to build enough aggro. You don't have to run around 100% of the time, just enough so that your healer doesn't go out of mana. And of course if you have actual good ranged DPS in your group they may not be able to do their max damage but the Dragon will still be easy because you can't die.
@artem101 That's not really a problem, because by the time the healer runs out of mana the tank has so much extra aggro that you can finish the fight without him attacking much. Worst thing if you have aggro problems, you can just stop DPS for a while. After all, while running around, the healer GAINS mana, meaning eventually you can basically reset the fight with a full mana healer and tank standing still and attacking full time again. So even with 2 DPS in the group you will eventually win.
@artem101 srry, could you please list them off.....i know of the high dragon, flemeth if you consider the witch one since you do not get a dragon sclae from her, whats the third........i know there are a couple just "dragons" that are much smaller and easier and then the dragon thrall in the battle of denerim.....the arch demon?? its a demon that just appears as in dragon form so......hmm.....
@AscavariServante Yea the ones you listed are the ones i was referring to. Flemmeth, High dragon (during the Andrasteas ashes story mission) and the Arch Demon. The remainder of the dragons are made up of medium and small dragons.

@littlemissjaded12345 The first time I played I did the same as you. I said no to helping him and never got to fight the dragon. My second playthrough I said yes to helping but when it came time to dump the vial of the blood in the urn I opted not too. When I exited the gauntlet the bad guy (name escapes me too) wasn't too pleased and attacked me. When I killed him he dropped a whistle which is used to call the dragon down. There could be other variable to this but I am not aware of them.

Huge ass mutha f'kin dragon flies out of the sky. I was all "I.Blame.You." Right before my entire team was eated'd'd.
After a second playthrough, I was able to take him down on first try without proper equipment on Normal difficulty. This game just forces you to know things beforehand rather than giving player space to maneuveur with multiple different tactics.
And yeah, it helps to have unlimited potions.
-Dalish Forrest for Elvenroot.
-Mage Tower for Dust
-Gnoll Noble Tavern for Flasks and higher potion gearing.
A few hundred potions of each costs you roughly 3-10g
im at the same clearing you are at and i think ive found some sort of gong but it wont let me press it. i want to fight the high dragon but dont know how. please help
Pretty much the only way to progress through the game is pick dual magis, then try to complete the Tower quest to buy equip to buy unlimited mana potions. The fade part will be complete pain but after that you just pick dual heal/hex and shatter every opponent by freeze/hex.
But just to think you have to think this far because of a "game" makes it ridiculously ill designed. You don't know these things before you play it.
@Taypion Well it would be good, but it is far too hard. You know why? Because I simply cannot drudge through the terrible gameplay. Now, I have played some games with pretty bad gameplay. But this game had me clawing out my eyes with boredom. I really like the concept of it, but in game the gameplay made playing through even 40 minutes of it nearly impossible. In my honest opinion, this is Bioware's biggest failure.
@FarsideStudios From what you said, I can only assume that you don't have the brain power to play Dragon Age Origins or you have never actually played it and got into it... (There could be a possibilty the difficulty is too high for you... but again, that's to do with the brain power thing). :/

My tactic was to send a warrior to fight, and cast force field on him repeatedly, while doing Inferno, Blizzard, Tempest skills on the dragon. It's cool, cos the dragon keeps attacking your warrior who is invincible because of the force field.

As long as you have a tank that can withstand the damage in this battle you basically won as long as you have enough lyrium potions and watch your threat. I did this battle with a level 12/13 party on hard.

well i have sten with the ageless greatsword and dragonbone plate alistair with the saw sword heavykite shield and templar armor zevran with antivan bow and me with a hawk eye bow and dragonbone dagger and the green blade and all of them are lvl 15 do i stand a chance?

killed this thing with one lvl 10 char, no hacks / glitches... just red-steel heavy plate, dragon's bane greatsword and pendant of blightquelling. bane doubles damage when used against a dragon and halves ALL damage taken by a dragon, on crits it does 25% of current dragon hp. pendant heals me equal to 70% of damage on crits, and the armor is enchanted with 50% fireproof =D pwnage char...

im yet a noob in this game but i like it yesterday i was doing the ashes urn quest or however its called, i saw a gong i punched it this dragon came up killed all my team but it seemeed like he was stuck on the gong i just ran back with 1 character morrigan an started to use 2 spells took me like 15 minutes to kill it but whatever 30g thanks lol

I haven't fought flemeth yet is she stronger then the high dragon or no! but I destroyed the high dragon at lv.7 on nightmare lol spear Thrower and hiding behind the Jesus rock I found while fighting!

My dog killed him when dragon was more than 3/4hp lol he couldn't seem to reach the dog for some reason so he just sat there bighting his legs and won but he did manage to stun me a couple times :S

Would be awesome to save the two last Old Gods (dragons) from the darkspawn and aid the rest of the dragons and Thedas against both the qunari and the darkspawn. Would be epic. High dragons aint evil, archdemons are.

i killed the dragon with just morrigan and the grey warden......use the structur, the like temple thing and lure it inside and it becomes quite vulnerable....blizzard will freeze the thing off and on sometimes and i worked on it with the grey warden....and got a sweet kill with the grey warden, grey warden jumped on the back of its head and cut its head off.......awesome stuff :)

I constantly died after trying this for a few hours last night. So, tonight i went ahead and did the Dwarf quests and the Broodmother. I am now level 15 and will give this another go tomorrow. If anyone is having problem with this, do what I did and run through the aforementioned quest chain. If you are able to wear the Legion of the Dead armor set, and side with Caridin and grab Branka's loot, you can have a good shot at it. Should also point out that I'm a Champion (warrior). :)

This was a hard fight for me first time I fought it. I skipped this and came back when I was stronger. I used Aerith (npc human warrior), Zervan (rogue), Morrigan (mage), and Wynne (mage). I made sure that Morrigan knew Revival before killing the dragon.

first time on computer i did this with mage dps oghren tank zevran and wynne. he killed our ass fast so i took wynne and stayed out of range of fire spit and massive attack and used a staff to slowly but surely get him all the way down from half.

It took me three tries to kill this thing.
I used me of course (warrior), Alistair (he's just there), Wynne, (healer) and Leliana (ranged attacks). all i really did was tossed 4 acid flasks at him while they are goin off on it, then i coated my sword in flames and just... kept attacking, Wynne is beast with her healing as i have all the talents for it. For anyone who is curious, it is well worth the tries as you get a crapload of items.

This is how I beat the mofo:
I used Aedan (Warrior), Morrigan (Mage), Wynne (Mage) and Leliana (Rogue). Before I blow the horn I sent the hole party in that small colloseum (at the right on the map) less Aedan which i put him at the entrance. Then I called the mofo. Now this guy is not enterin in the colloseum..is to big I guess..so I stayed in his back and hit him and I let the ladies do the job from the back of the colloseum (ice arrows and spells). When your health drops low, use Wynne (hlth)

i think my preferred party is: me (warrior but fills multiple roles because im awesome like that), wynne, leliana, and sten. ive never even used shale really, lol. well i guess sten or morrigan, either way the dragon gets owned. but i always have had leliana and wynne.

if you just run your tank around this dragon becomes super-easy as he will deal very little damage to your tank so a healer can keep him alive with just the mana he/she regenerates, no potions needed. Works on nightmare.
There are even lamer tricks that you can do that take advantage of the dragon's stupidity even more, but the above is easiest to figure out how to do.
Of course if you have more than 1 healer you don't even need to micro anything on nightmare without potions (>1 mage is OP).

@artem101 Not really, you have plenty of mana to keep him in there to build enough aggro. You don't have to run around 100% of the time, just enough so that your healer doesn't go out of mana. And of course if you have actual good ranged DPS in your group they may not be able to do their max damage but the Dragon will still be easy because you can't die.

@artem101 That's not really a problem, because by the time the healer runs out of mana the tank has so much extra aggro that you can finish the fight without him attacking much. Worst thing if you have aggro problems, you can just stop DPS for a while. After all, while running around, the healer GAINS mana, meaning eventually you can basically reset the fight with a full mana healer and tank standing still and attacking full time again. So even with 2 DPS in the group you will eventually win.

@artem101 srry, could you please list them off.....i know of the high dragon, flemeth if you consider the witch one since you do not get a dragon sclae from her, whats the third........i know there are a couple just "dragons" that are much smaller and easier and then the dragon thrall in the battle of denerim.....the arch demon?? its a demon that just appears as in dragon form so......hmm.....

@AscavariServante Yea the ones you listed are the ones i was referring to. Flemmeth, High dragon (during the Andrasteas ashes story mission) and the Arch Demon. The remainder of the dragons are made up of medium and small dragons.

Was this part of the game after the gauntlet puzzle? I said no to helping the evil guy with his wicked plan back there. (can't remember what he was called. his name completely escapes me I'm afraid) If you decide not to help him, don't you get to see the dragon here or not??

@littlemissjaded12345 The first time I played I did the same as you. I said no to helping him and never got to fight the dragon. My second playthrough I said yes to helping but when it came time to dump the vial of the blood in the urn I opted not too. When I exited the gauntlet the bad guy (name escapes me too) wasn't too pleased and attacked me. When I killed him he dropped a whistle which is used to call the dragon down. There could be other variable to this but I am not aware of them.

After a second playthrough, I was able to take him down on first try without proper equipment on Normal difficulty. This game just forces you to know things beforehand rather than giving player space to maneuveur with multiple different tactics.
And yeah, it helps to have unlimited potions.
-Dalish Forrest for Elvenroot.
-Mage Tower for Dust
-Gnoll Noble Tavern for Flasks and higher potion gearing.
A few hundred potions of each costs you roughly 3-10g

Pretty much the only way to progress through the game is pick dual magis, then try to complete the Tower quest to buy equip to buy unlimited mana potions. The fade part will be complete pain but after that you just pick dual heal/hex and shatter every opponent by freeze/hex.
But just to think you have to think this far because of a "game" makes it ridiculously ill designed. You don't know these things before you play it.

@Taypion Well it would be good, but it is far too hard. You know why? Because I simply cannot drudge through the terrible gameplay. Now, I have played some games with pretty bad gameplay. But this game had me clawing out my eyes with boredom. I really like the concept of it, but in game the gameplay made playing through even 40 minutes of it nearly impossible. In my honest opinion, this is Bioware's biggest failure.
