  • it never ceases to amuse me, gerry is hilarious - filthy, but hilarious

  • look at how he rolls his eyes..

  • Have you seen the movie? Then you know why it ended up as a curse as opposed to a blessing. The movie was woeful, completely different to the epic poem, trying to humanise the trolls into Neanderthals, add in an american witch love interest, Hrothgar as a boozy loser. Frankly, I think they should be feeling lucky that the old gods only messed with them a little, for it could have gotten all amusing, had they really taken exception to the thing.

  • Think they did a pretty good job actually, especially with all these problems and teh weather working against them.

It was an attempt to get into the core of the Beowulf legend, as it might have looked without a Christian filter. I though the Neanderthal or Sasquatch perspective was a brilliant and surprising idea.

But of course you can always use 2,3 or 5 mio £ more ;-) - but then again this was not Hollywood style.

  • They did manage to do very well given the problems and weather, yes. However, it simply doesn't fit the poem at all, even looking at removal of the Christian filter. The Neanderthal theory has been promoted rather greatly of late. However, the representation of the characters from the poem in the manner in which they did, changed the entire essence of the poetic Beowulf. It's far less about money, and far more about being true to the Heathen mythos and origins of the poem.

  • I agree. But it was never their intention to make a carbon copy of the poem either. I think the inspiraation came from John Gardner's ( spelling ? ) novel Grendel, which sees things from the perspective of the monster.

And then it was without all the "later" Christian influences of the surviving poem, as it MAY have been prior to the advent of Christianity in the Northlands. This is just hinted at with the arrival of the crazy Irish priest who wants to save and baptise everyone.

    ;-)
