  • I can't imagine how the passengers in the past board the train. Look at the huge gap between the train and the station.

  • @mcg18993 Probably used a bridge over the gap b/w the platform and the train!

  • @JamaicaQnzFreak actually the trains during that time, the 1940s, were round and 5 cars so people could have gotten out. Now they changed the trains so the doors are flat so they don't use this station anymore. Still cool though, went 2day, lights were off though..creepy.

  • @freeforyouuglydude the main reason that the station was closed is because the new trains are longer making it harder for them to take that turn (which also produces that screeching). Also, the gap is because of the length as well. A shorter car will fit the turn better and allow easy on/off traffic... as long as your not in a wheelchar (there would still be a bit of a gap)

  • how can u guys get in nice video

  • @abdulla902 Thanks and you got to be a member of the Transit Musuem!

  • The operators and doormen are lucky to go past this station all the time.

  • @sovetskii52 Yeap and the doorman are called Conductors!

  • With all the beautiful tile work, why would you focus this video on another subway train?? Let me guess, you used to huff glue in the abandoned station.

  • @WillyMcCoy50 Let me guess your a dumb ass moron.....this is my video and I'll film it whoever I want. If you didn't like it then why bother watching it. Stop taking your parents prescription meds to get high!

  • Awesome! Do you know if you can bring a guest/guests with you?!

  • @TheTarmanCometh You can bring guest(s) I think but you have to be Musuem member!

  • How often does the transit museum do tours there?

  • @TheTarmanCometh Like every other month!

  • @JamaicaQnzFreak Awesome! Can you bring a guest/guests?

  • @JamaicaQnzFreak Awesome! Do you know if you can bring a guest(s)?!

  • why is the subway still operating?

  • @anderalex129 Ah what are you talking about?

  • @JamaicaQnzFreak i'm talking about the subway still having electricity.

  • @anderalex129 The entire subway system have electricity!

  • are people allowed in the abandoned city hall loop?

  • @MetroNorthRailRoad No unless you are a Transit Museum member!

  • @JamaicaQnzFreak How often do they do tours there?

  • @JamaicaQnzFreak How often do they do tours there?

  • look at the gaps

  • Yeap!

  • I wonder if this station will open again..........

  • I guess you didn't read the description!

  • oh damn I always forget to

  • how'd you manage to get into the station? I really want to go there. I know the transit museum club has trips there, but I don't think they're that often.

  • I'm a Transit Museum member that is how I got in this station. So inorder to gwt into this station as an event trip you must be a member with the New York Transit Museum!

  • How I become a member? I think I join, because they might do this again, and maybe even do it with South Ferry.

  • To go the MTA website @ the bottom click on Transit Museum and it should explain to you how to join!

  • hOW DID YOU RECORD THIS AT THIS AT 1904 IS YOU ARE ONLY 29?

  • Lawd did you even bother to read the entire description?

  • Comment removed

  • dude that was 2008 not 1904

  • It is boring just to see the train! Why didnt you film the station?

  • And thats alright that you find it boring. I took pics of the station so it was no reason to film the station and plus they were other videos done in this station that is posted on here....so if you really wanted to see the station so bad look for the videos. Thank you for your responce and have a wonderful day!

  • thanks!

  • there are other videos

  • this is some dark station

  • It wasn't that dark when I was there!

  • whats with the exclamation points at every comment u make

  • B/c thats like my lil signature!

  • lol

  • Why do you spend the whole time video taping a passing train?? Why not video tape the "jewel in the crown" itself. i would have loved to see the Station not a passing 6 train. You can tape that from any station.

  • No I can't tape it from any station, also they have like 5-6 videos of ppl showing the "Jewel In The Crown" on here, so I wasn't wasting my time doing that and plus it kind of dark in that old station!

  • "No I can't tape it from any station"

Why Not?? There are well lit stations all along the #6 line.

"also they have like 5-6 videos of ppl showing the "Jewel In The Crown" on here"

I know, I have been looking at them but most of them do what you do and tape the passing train instead of the Station?? There are a couple though that show the actual Station.

"plus it kind of dark in that old station!"

But not too dark to film the passing train?

Sorry but I think your Title is misleading.

  • My title isn't missing leading....if you didn't like the video like that then you shouldn't have looked @ it. I do my videos my way no one esles way. If you want to see the station itself you have 2 options. Option (1) take a Downtown 6 train and go around the loop to see the station or option (2) join the New York Transit Museum its for $40 for the membership and you get to see the Old City Hall Station yourself!

  • Sorry but it is misleading or at worst just incorrect!

i would luv to do Option 1 or 2 but i live 2000 miles away so both options are a little out of reach. The best i can do is search youtube for a glimpse of the station videotaped by good people like you. My point is that when the title says "The Jewel In The Crown:Old City Hall Station!"

i would expect to see Old city Hall Station not a #6 train. If I had known your video was just a train rolling thru i wouldn't have bothered watching.

  • Intereresting place. Looks almost spooky too.

  • It is interesting, but its not spooky either!

  • great vid thanks for sharing! If the station is abandoned why are there so many people in it?

  • Thank you and thanks for looking @ it. Its ppl there b/c it was a New York Transit Museum event tour and it was open for the museum members only!

  • I guess the 6 train only switches ends at one terminal station, since City Hall station is now only used for the sole purpose of looping trains around, whatever car was leading to go to Manhattan would lead again when the train headed back to the Bronx.

  • Yes you are very correct!

  • BMT subway cars are too wide for the original IRT Contract One segment. Originally, prewar IRT cars had doors only at the very ends where the vestibules were located, and no center doors. The end doors lined up satisfactorily with the platform despite the sharp curve.

  • Thank you for explaining that in a lil more detail!

  • Of course the station is old....its the 1st IRT station when they built the subway ststem in Manhattan!

  • Me 2!

  • Wide gap between the subway and the platform. I wonder how the people during the olden days when the station was open got on the train. The gap is cool to look at. It's trippy.

  • I'm sure they used something bridge liked to get over the gap!

  • I would like to see the equipment used for people to get on the train at this station. It makes for good research. I will let you know what I find.

  • I'm curious myself on what they have used back in the olden days!

  • I think, old BMT cars used to be with no side doors.

  • was there a special event going on because usually, they don't allow people in this station?

  • Yeah it was a special event with the Transit Museum!

  • wow some people on the6 train and i think they want to see the station. maybe the T/O should check the train before going to city hall on the 6 train.

  • I think they allow the passengers to stay on the train to get to the other side of Brooklyn Bridge!

  • theres only open one side of the brooklyn bridge?

  • The 6 train goes from the Downtown side to the Uptown side!

  • huh?

  • I was telling that the 6 train goes from the Downtown side passes through the Old City Hall Loop go get to the Uptown side, so thats why you see passengers on train. The T/O or conductors don't kick off the passengers like they used to!

  • why was it going so slow.

  • It a curve loop so its suppose to go slow like that!
