Yea, in the studio Xtina can sound like Mariah in some ways, but live you can tell how much machinery was put into making her sound that way.

But one thing she can't do in the studio is imitate Mariah's ingenious vocal runs. Xtina's don't make sense whereas Mariah's are perfectly placed, and she doesn't just put them at the end of every word the way Xtina does. Also Mariah's ability to put melisma in those really high belts is another thing that Xtina can only dream of doing.

Mariah's ear for melody is so amazing. I agree her vocal runs also always make melodic sense. Indeed just perfectly placed. I think Christina is a fantastic singer (aside from the occaisional screaming) but she goes way overboard with the vocal runs and randomly puts them everywhere making it very hard to listen to her. Mariah popularized singing with melisma, and despite what people say, knows how to use it. Christina doesn't.

Actually she could really sounds like this if she wants to. She just admitted in an interview during her Daydream era that she really changed the texture of her voice. I don't know why but I think it's because she sounds like Whitney so she made her sound really different in Daydream compared to Music Box. But I don't think she could hit high chest voice anymore live.
