anyone remember colin hill from washington ? i used to go to the all nighters with him . he was a brill dancer i was into watching and the girls ! lol
suledan how old are you ? i remember going on a works do at christmas as a 16 year old,and being taken to the room at the top by my boss and older workmates,my only ever visit and being groped by some middle age scrubber i was terrified,wasnt it over the top of whelans(morrisons) supermarket,i am 54 now and it was well closed when i was legally allowed to go to such places.
oh and i remember my mum going into my work complaining about them getting me drunk - how times have changed.
many of those photos were not at the all nighters -there was no alcohol,mike walker was threatened many times in the earlier days with losing his licence for illicit alcohol sales and they were red hot on not selling it, i think most if not all of those pics are later than 79/80 layorseniram and from a normal mon/wed/fri/sun soul club night.
looking at this vid really brings it all back i can still smell the place !!,we used to travel up from Cornwall to the Casino much to the amazement of the old lady at the pay desk she couldn't understand a word we said due to our accents ! ! it was a bit before the pics were took 76/77 looking at the fashions on display i'd say these were took circa 79/80 ? ,
i still have my soul bags,shoes and lee jacket i wore there,amazingly it all still fits !we still have the odd soul nite in Plymouth
I'm 31years old, but my parents went to there every Saturday night. I used to live in Wigan from being born in '79 since '96, but all those music being played I used to listen at home when I was lil'girl!! . :( On a few pictures, I think that I could see my Mum, she was really pretty, aaaww I do miss her so much. I really wish that I could have lived by my parents and see whats happening in Wigan Casino!! It is just curious!! x

I remember the jeans with different colour turnups and contrasting colour belts..great pics...looking at the style these must have been taken close to end of the club around 1980. I went to the club between 79 and 81. The guy standing in front of the stage at 4mins 27 in green top is his second name Dixon?
RitmoNo1 there is no station road any more mate,the whole area was redeveloped and is now a shopping arcade,at the spot where the Casino once stood is a Casino cafe that has some pictures and memorabilia.

Went for coffee and snack in the Casino Cafe. Little display on their. I knew every record on the big poster. Think the incomplete pic of the Drifters 7" must be - You've go to pay your dues. I live in Newton-le-Willows so I used to catch the bus (double decker)to Wigan. Great there is something.

Nice pics and music to go with them !. They really capture the fashion and atmosphere of those heady days. I was lucky to be part of the Wigan (and Cleethorpes) scene late 74 and early 75, and will NEVER forget those days. I too was at the 1st Anniversary, and am amazed at how many people are still into this scene. I regularly listen to sounds that are 30 to 40 years old, but are still as fresh as they were when I 1st heard them. Thank heavens they still live on. KTF !
What a walk down memory lane - thanks! Started going to the Casino in '75 used to go up once a month for the all-nighters, fantastic, had the big skirt, short socks, badges and can never get over the leaving in the morning, god that daylight hurt the eyes!

Why is there nothing in Wigan to mark the spot were the Casino was. There should be some kind of sign or memorial. Think its just portacabins now.
