  • I do not know what worries me the most.

Mcwilliams beleives what he is saying or that he does not have clue.

The banking debts of ireland cannot be seperated from sovereign debt. The credit that the banks in ireland have taken on board has been guaranteed by the central bank of ireland from from fractional mechanisms.

  • Guess who advised Finance that they should guarantee all Bank debt, Mr McWilliams keeps quiet about that.

  • @gazfish123

He just suggested depositors to be backed. And did suggest a stated time limit. Decide which banks to save and which to let go at that point was his idea.

  • wanna learn portuguese? anyone? portuguese-brazil, chijna is too heavy too many people to grow like they have they are a bubble and have no resources, brazil was everything, biggest oil reserves in planet, amazon florest, industry, they have everything, i think they will grow, they are also a free democracy no dictatorship like russia china, have everything, they also have lots german italian english people can relate join there its a huge country that was snow south, desert, tropical florests

  • now, take a deep breath and think of the best country that you will groom your children to live in....Brazil, China, Germany...I hope they have good language teahcers in the schools in your area. Happy new year. The Irish will soon be on the streets...we're not as reactionary as the meds (portugal, spain, greece) but we'll soon cop on and then I think our reaction will be more severe (i.e Sinn fein in govt by 2013). I'm not a politcal science expert but I'll throw it out there anyway!

  • BTW, Ireland will not get of this recession unless it defaults on bank bondholder debt in a way that pisses off the ECB big time. here' a scary stat for you - Irish govt in 2010 spent 50 billion euros in order to run the country ( that escludes any bank bailouts +€20Bn) while the govt received €32Bn in tax receipts....add in the fact that by 2011, we'll have €8bn in loan and interest repayments, that leaves with an approximate €25bn funding gap. This year's budget closed that gap by €6bn.

  • ASYLUM SEEKERS IN IRELAND CAUGHT 'ASYLUM SHOPPING'

243 Asylum seekers were transferred to other EU states after being caught 'asylum shopping' where they looked for refugee status in 2 or more countries.

40 failed asylum seekers were deported last night, a further 202 opted for help in returning home voluntarily rather than being removed.

    source: Irish Independent 12/3/10

and there's no such thing as bogus asylum seekers, you are racist for saying so...

  • this man has got it right time and time again, on irish economy .he has earned a place in history as the man who fore told the irish "crash".

  • @MultiHiace I agree with you that he's a good, clear economist but not for "foretelling the Irish crash"! He has proclaimed an Economic recession here since the 90's i.e the start of the tiger! Of course we we're going to crash some day, it's an economic cycle! I will say right now that we will get out of this recession some day, doesn't make me an economic genius though!! I do agree with you though, just everyone thinks it for that reason which I don't agree with!

  • @Cankdtank it's obvious that you're not an economist as ou're throwing out hackneyed bs. it's true that david predicted a overheated property bubble in 1999 and called for less inflationary property tax policy. Was that such a crazy idea?...given that there has been a -50% fall in residential poperty prices from peak bringing current home prices close to 2000 levels in real terms??...of course you don't have a response as you're not an economist but you'll try muster up some tabloid garbage....

  • we were sent free cheese by Europe, a piss take of how the irish are caught rotten in a rat trap of slavery and poverty, bye bye irish sovereignty,

  • @MsJony1234 The Irish for the most part are a gullible servile people who cannot run their own affairs sadly

  • @breda83 one of the sad things is narrow twisted little fuckers like you crawl out with the steam and stink from the greedy shit pile you orange kkk cunt.

  • @MsJony1234 Chill out son, not orange or kkk. Just a guy who see's things as they are, thats all son.

  • I moved back to Ireland during the boom after leaving in the 80's. But I didnt believe any of the hype, because I had seen it all before in the UK. So I didnt get sucked into this property mania. I used to get given out to by people, when I said FF were chancers and wasters. The thing that I hated most of all, was the arrogance of the Irish during this period. I think they mistook being arrogant and rude, for being sophisticated and european.

  • @northernsoul44

I was in the UK in 1989-92 when the property bubble burst there, I bought a house here in 2001 and I knew I was paying about 60,000 Euros over the odds based on my past knowledge of the UK but what can you do if you want to live somewhere you have to pay the going rate but you should be able to look to government to actually regulate the fucking economy....thats their job after all

  • @northernsoul44 Your spell in Britain made you smarter...

  • David should have been listened to ages ago but then again the Irish don't listen so said Oscar Wilde

  • IMMIGRATION FAR HIGHER THAN STATED

Trade Union leaders challenged the accuracy of immigration figures in Sept. 2007. ICTU said the 2006 census count of 11,000 Chinese in Irl was far short of the 100,000 observers said are actually here. The census said 63,000 Poles, the Polish embassy said the real number was as high as 200,000

    Sunday Times 2/09/07

So 10 times the number of Chinese, 3.5 times the number of Poles, how many more Africans, Pakistanis etc, are here above what is stated?

  • You give people 300 euros a week dole in ireland FUCK..£60 in the UK

I bought a rowing boat for just 60.000 Euros in Spain last year man its only worth 100 Euros now and my six houses I cant sell them ,man fuck and I make 100 Euros a week shit what to do a I will ask the bank ..NO the fucking banks down the plug hole as well.

I am sick of IRISH people moaning no one ask you to buy up the south of spain to find you lost 60% or houses in every county 3 cars my car is only 2005 its shit

  • its only 200 euros for the dole, I agree its too much. We are 70 billion in debt, that's a serious amount but people here aren't grown up enough to take it. We don't save, all the saving went into housing and they have lost value now. My savings are going into gold and silver in the future

  • @Seano71 savings should have gone into gold and silver ten years ago. You would be rich now. I used to get shouted down when I told people property was a scam. Dont run with the herd. sometimes its best to stand back and look at the bigger picture even if it means getting a hard time from people who think they know better. due dilligence.

  • @northernsoul44 nah, its different in the euro. Silver only really started rising against it since 2008

  • @mushroom2you

    you're ranting

  • true talk i hope u take what he says and put it in your life bro keep it up nice to see people open minded and smart lyk u

mind u am a nigerian in college

  • bet your living in Ireland now living off us. Seriously though, the global economy is in deep trouble. I depression is ahead of us, so I recommend you buy yourself all the seeds, ammo, gold and silver you can get your hands on

  • last time i checked am not living off ireland actually ireland is living of my 21,000 a year in college fees and my taxes aigt as for ammo dnt worry we funded the ira so dats no big deal

  • I;ve seen it and I agree. David McWilliams still doesn't get it as smart as he is

  • shut up u got to learn how to be educated and smart

  • He's an amazing and I've seen many of what he's talking about. The recession is good for us somehow to feel the real world and to see the fear that we couldn't imagine in the boom time.

  • Very good answers!

  • STFU crackpot

  • wow a nice load of shit comments.life's a bitch, get over it lol

  • asdasdasdasdasd

  • Another thing, Ireland is very Dependent on oil,we have not done enough to make life easier on our selves in Energy,we think our money is safe in Irish banks, but the fact is,the Banks could end up controlling what we are allowed to take out,or prevent us from taking money out, just take what happened in south America many years ago,we could use Animal Manure for heat, like they do in Holland, but no one has thought about going into that business in Ireland?,no one,not even farmers!

  • i do agree with all of your points in this comment section and feel you are right in what you say. however i think you may have misunderstood my comment to ciachyou.

ciachyou states this man, assuming he means the DJ has not been to eire and dosent understand its probs. his idea of our probs is aids and black crime. however aids in ireland is not a serious epidemic and there is no black crime here even very few black people my point is theres more irish on irish crime than foreigners on irish.

  • Ireland, like most countries, has succumbed to the price tag of "material fit-in-ism". I'm as Irish as good whiskey, but I can't fathom how my homeland has spent so many years forgetting about the fact that they've (we've) always been on the "lower tier", and now expects some magical resurgence. If anyone knows about working their knuckles to the bone, it's the Irish. We've been the "slaves" of almost every economy that the world has ever seen. We've dug the tunnels, and policed the streets.

  • Ireland is clearly not a better place. Consumerism and matierialism have completely hijacked the mindset of the youth. They will not be able to handle the news that is about to come. what will happen then?

  • @divorcecake oh come on, ireland was a joke in the past, the laughing stock of europe with the catholic church holding us back and brainwashing our social beliefs and morals

  • @cardesigner5 Yeah because we got the whole game fucking tapped these days dont we???? Look what Consumerist BULLSHIT has done to our land 'car designer'

  • @divorcecake They will emigrate if they have any sense

  • @breda83 Cant emigrate. They got too caught up in the " I'm a fucking millionaire gimme 3 cars and 2 fucking mortages now" vibe that was going on. They cant emigrate, they are saddled with materialistic debt BULLSHIT

  • @divorcecake Crazy & Stupid beyond words... It's sad really as this 'scam' Celtic Tiger fooled so many people. Fianna Fail should be put out of buisness if possible.

  • @breda83 hey "breda" i see you leaving messages on a lot of irish videos .why don't you put a face and ur name up so people can see who ur talkin to?

wouldn't it be a bit more dignified than being some anonymous coward on the net?

  • @GmtC1979 ooh the Irish sense of irony, chill out paddy

  • excellent economist. Get rid of the rotten to the core, fraudulant irish bankers. Make David McWilliams - minister for finance, Well done david

  • @koilmore1 He is a very smart man for sure but the Irish prefers stupid corrupt scumbags to run their country...

  • David for Taoiseach get Fianna Fail out they are a shower of cronies and wasters. Just people doing favour for their waster buddies!

  • It does not matter who is in power,Fianna fail,Fianna Gael, sure what better can Fianna Gael do? or any other party, its the world Economy that is causing this Recession, sure there are politicians killing each other abroad,if you asked me who is the best politician,or party,my answer is none!.not even Sinn Fein, our Economy has become to dependent on globalization,we have become too dependent on hand outs from the EU.that is the problem!!that is why we are Unemployed,we need to get away from EU.

  • FG and FF are puppets to the same masters, the owners of the IMF

  • Why can this government not get McWilliams to help sort out the economy? He knows more then Lenihan or Cowen about how the economy works. The French government employed his help, why cant we do it too?

  • i could be wrong but i think the gov were on to him for advice on possible bank collapse. think he advised to guarantee bank deposits or soemthing. interesting times...

  • because they want the banksters to have our money

  • How poignant and conflicting to listen to this today. A so called boom made up of cheap money which this Gentleman even cited in his two recent books, thats what the Celtic tiger was. He even assisted in coining the phrase Celtic tiger. Im sure he paid off his mortgages with his book sales and now hes ok. He can look back like another fellow Irishman did once, namely the Great James Connolly and say hasnt it been a fully life... and isnt this a good end? Will we ever learn?

  • what the fuck are you on about ciachyou are you one of these steamer neo nazi online retards trying to convince the general public that foreigners are the cause of our economic plight, its not the migrants that are kicking the head off some poor sod its predomonitly the irish

  • Hitman - when the ball finally drops, it will probably be an Irish lad who drags your wounded and crying ass to safety. The only thing any respectable Irishman wants is to be left the HELL alone. You think we're you're problem? Who has been called upon to enforce the law more than the Irish? Your bigotry will be forgiven, so long as you learn how to shut your stupid mouth. More Irish have died protecting you than you can imagine. WE were the "pawns" in so many wars that it's unfathomable.

  • @hitmanF The problem is the Irish themselves

  • @breda83 yep dumb cocksuckers

  • @donnyab The Irish Catholics to be more precise.

  • economy is gone
