  • Hey man... me and my mate are wanting to climb kili next year... please could you tell me the steps that you took to get there and get everything planned etc? :)

  • @TheElwallclaw1 The video description has a link to my trip description which has a link to Stedman's site (wwwdotclimbmountkilimanjarodotcom). My trip was a few years ago, you need to look at more recent reports and tips.

  • can someone please recommend a tour operator that they've used? thanks a bunch!

  • hey got ur message

is urs booked now? im still raising money for costs of the treck bout 800 left to raise :)

  • i am doing the same route with skyline company september 17th 2010 returning on the 26th, all information and advice appreciated

  • @kidscancerfundraiser So am I!!! I will email you.

  • not too much of a bother when you climb it with a school bag while the bloke next to you hurls up a 60lbs bergen, innit.

  • @TrooperLFC, you are right that the "bloke" next to you does much more work than you. I prefer to haul my own gear, and go where there are fewer people, but that's not an option on Kili, you need the porters. And even with a school bag it's still a bit of a bother.

It's important to chose a good company, ideally a locally owned one, where porters get treated fairly. In a good company, they e.g. eat the same meals that you do (and you can actually verify this one once you are on the mountain).

  • This has to be added to my "100 things to do before I die" list.

  • @goonerfromjhb I am doing this climb in September and I can't wait. This is on my list too :)

  • Is the Machame Route supposed to be better than other routes? Which can you recommend? What is the best time to summit Kilimanjaro, August?

  • MAchame is a little harder, but more scenic (and rewarding), and less touristy. You stay in tents as opposed to cabin (things) on Marangu.

I did it in September and that was awesome! MAke sure you rug up as it's fucking cold at night!!!!!

  • @CUGKS did you prepare in anyway for the altitude? I plan to do it sometime next year but I want to acclamatize myself first..

  • Na, I'd never been above 1000m after 24 years living in Australia, and went to about 2500m in Switzerland for a week about a month before the climb. The trick is to go very slow from the start. That was challenging for me as I'm 25 and fit, and like to go as a fast as I can... but resist at all cost!! The only guy who didn't make it was going way too fast the first few days! Listen to the guides, and don't be afraid to go even slower than you think necessary.

    Enjoy, it's very rewarding!

  • Haha pole pole :D You hear that all the time in Kenya

  • Great perspective! I felt asthmatic just watching! Thanks!

  • amazing
