  • @prufrock68 I agree. I thought it was a good way to go out. Everyone I talked to hated but I was the only one who thought it brilliant. :)

  • Either we see this scene as one of the most brilliant in tv history, either you just see it as the most shity :p Personally I loved Serena so.. Wolf, you're a Dick !

  • 2:05 2:10 his face hahah

  • i lol'd so hard when i saw this.. haha i had no idea

  • I think this was done to reflect/reinforce the fact that in the original seasons of L&O, they never revealed anything about the characters' lives outside of their jobs. Personal lives were mentioned sparingly. When Jack McCoy was introduced it was revealed that he had twice been involved with his female assistants and there were subtle hints that he and Jill Hennessy were involved. After the character was killed, McCoy accused of it.Serena's sexuality didn't affect her job her compassion did.

  • Yes, it is.

  • "Good....good." LMAO.

  • Still one of the most confusing moments in Law & Order.

  • I hate the word lesbian!!! it sounds so gross

  • @karmalevel lol, me too.

  • @karmalevel and why would u say that?

  • @ff7angeleen I prefer gay, lesbian sounds like a disease

  • @karmalevel yeah right, I thought you were like I-hate-the-word-and-the-people-related-to-it. Being lesbian, well gay myself, I over reacted xD (in fact I just listened to a song where the guy was saying "all these lesbians are so sensitive" and I was like "that ain't true !"... I should think twice xD)

  • @ff7angeleen lol for sure!!! are you femme?

  • @karmalevel Yeah, Before I liked the butch type, maybe because I felt insecure, but now I believe it's a bit of a shame to not assume your feminity. I mean, be the girl you dream of! otherwise turn into a guy xD why when there's a girl with cuty dress and long hair the other one must be short hair butch type ? It's similar to a straight couple, and so for me it goes against your homosexuality. But that's only my point of view and I respect people who disagree =)

  • @ff7angeleen I agree I am a bi femme with preference for women and I like femininity, I never understood someone being attracted to a girl impersonating a guy and usually an ugly guy. do live in the states?

  • @karmalevel Well of course sometimes I stay home in my pyjamas more than one day like during vacation, but that's it \o/ Haha, nooo not at all I live in Belgium.. Idk if you even know this country xD Next to England (& I hope one day to move there)

  • Narm... narm...

  • No, Elizabeth, it's not because your character is a lesbian, it's because you're a horrible actress with a range that Keanu Reeves thinks is ridiculously limited.

  • Says: No! Of course not. No.

    Thinks: FUUUUHHHHH!!!!!????

  • Poor Kate.

  • Never saw this coming when they fired her as they never hinted at her being gay until like the episode before she left when she was on the side of gay rights

  • She was gay??? The show never hinted to that if I remember correctly...

  • @caillou2000 There's been references before. The magazine (with both McCoy and Branch's reactions), and the old lady asking if she had a boyfriend or a husband, the way she stumbled over the question, proves it. That and when McCoy tried getting same-sex marriage declared illegal. All in all- they should have hooked Serena up with Abbie. I've always been a fan of those two.

  • @Cristil1111 Yeah it's a shame Serena was fired =( I remember the episodes with the old lady and the same-sex marriage but I don't remember what happened with the magazine???

  • she's fucking hot.

  • i thought dick wolf was awkward enough

  • besides Steven Hill, I prefer Diane Weist than this guy......

  • Damn man, what a cop out, a gay character in Law and Order, who comes out, then leaves the show. That really sucks. She is pretty hot too. Some people didn't like her character, they said she was cold and robotic, I don't see how, that was the whole supposed reason she got fired for having a heart??? damn TV, A hot, lesbian district attorney?? not enough of those on TV for sure lol

  • Her character is lesbian! Must watch whatever series of L&O she was in.

  • I was kind of shocked that she was fired. She was one of the better DAs and one of the few who didn't sleep with Jack, lol.

  • Is this because I am a lesbian?... NO.. it is because you don't like cock.

  • I think the guy's face pretty much summed up everyone who ever watched this' reaction.

  • Yeeeeeeeaaaaahhhhhh, and now SVU!!! NOW!!

  • @haselnussschnitte They already did - George.

  • @ThorneAstor When?

  • @haselnussschnitte It was the episode "Hardwired". George mentioned it casually during a discussion.

  • @ThorneAstor Ok, thank you.

  • what the hell, did she just accept that?

  • Completely retarded. Came out of nowhere. Might as well had asked "is this because I'm blonde?" or "is this because I have size 8 shoes?"

  • BS. If she was a lesbo she must've turned by the end of the show cos I remember mentioning a situation with a boyfriend early on when she started.

  • wow. a big moment in Law & Order. TOP THAT SVU!!!

  • @codename617 They already have a gay character - George.

  • I tend to keep neutral in my opinons of people on the LGBT spectrum. I don't want to say I hate them, but I can't exactly say I like them either.

  • @loganidol my sister said what you said when I told her.

don't blame us ... "It's the straight people who keep having gay babies :)"

Apparantly there are a few hints through out the series that she was hiding a 'secret'. I remember someone mentioning a scene when a magazine feel out of her briefcase and the guys where like, oh we didnt know -cool. I'm not a big L&O fan, more a SVU but love this scene

  • I think the people who saids that she wasn't gay are sooo wrong¡¡¡ the firs time i was this show was allready elizabeth rohm with this character and I looks so gay that this comments make laugh so much, clearly did a great job because she made a great lesbian, jaja because of her I wathc this show, belive me I'm a lesbiane and this character was tooo. dont' doubted. sorry about my english, Im from venezuela.

  • Dick Wolf is a complete asshole.

  • I sure as heck didn't see this one coming, and really thought it was a little contemptuous. She didn't really show any signs of being a lesbian, and even if she did, for her to use it as a protest for her firing when he flat out laid a bunch of reasons on the table struck me as rather pathetic. Kind of like the people who say "But he only got the job because he's (whatever nationality), or because she's a woman". When I heard that I almost imagined him saying "Uh.. you're a lesbian? News to me."

  • @MiriOhki - this show is known for not getting in the personal lives of any of any of the characters

  • Comment removed

  • there was an episode about lesbian teenagers where she vaguely hints at it.....

  • @ChildOfTheFlower - i think the made the decision to make her gay during the last episode. i dont think she was written in a lesbian. I do remember that lesbian teenage episode , it was a good one . Never see it in reruns though

  • @lword1970 I just saw the episode about the lesbian teen on TNT...no clues whatsoever were given about Serena's sexuality. So the whole last episode theory has to be it.

  • @rickyphoenix yes I saw it earlier too for the first time in yrs , yeah there was no clue that she was a lesbian . obviously they decided to let her go out with a bang

  • In this episode, was her being a lesbian mentioned before this? Was this question just out of the blue? Did he even know she was a lesbian?

    I sure as hell didn't.

  • I love this scene. Serena really was more of an advocate, and this final scene ties up her tenure there together so elegantly. In 2.5 minutes, this is explained, she goes from bravado to sudden realization of what's happening, and the lesbian thing is just the final (poignant and surprising) kicker. Plus, it's brilliantly and sympathetically acted by both performers. Call it a gimmicky ending, but it really worked for me.

  • @prufrock68 It is a good ending although he did play into some stereotypes; the only reason this had shock value was because the actress is so pretty.

  • The first time I heard this I had to back up the DVR to make sure I heard it right-and I still said "What... Where did that come from?"

  • What a weird ass ending line. It would've been nice if she could've come out before leaving kinda cheapens it in my opinion.

  • I just saw this episode. It was one of the weirdest exit lines I've ever heard.

  • Your people are morons, its a dam T.V show, stop reading so much into it.

  • I love how she accuses him of firing her based on being a lesbian when he CLEARLY outlined why he was firing her before he said so...

  • She's such a horrible actress, like she's reading off a teleprompter.

  • It does seem superfluous. There's no prior mention of her sexuality in the episode or even the show. It's kind of an awkward bomb to drop. There was, at best, one or two obscure hints in other episodes, which could just be seen as reference in hindsight. Her character was pro-gay rights, which makes sense, but they could've characterized her better to make this flow better. Once or twice before, she even mentions boyfriends, though I assume that was before she accepted her sexuality.

  • What exactly happened in this episode? o.O

  • The whole "is this because i'm a lesbian" part could of been completely removed and the scene would of been fine. Why? Does every damm show have to have a gay person on it? (I have nothing against gay people, but cmon its getting old).

  • @Kuzo53 Well, being that at least 10% of the population is LGBT, any show with 10 or more characters should have at least one gay one.

  • @InvertedClockwork hahahha good point.

  • @Kuzo53 Does every damn show have to have a straight person on it?

  • @MissPeaceandLoove I am completely confused by your comment. Are you saying that all shows should have all gay casts?

  • @Kuzo53

more like rampant straightness in TV is getting old

  • Is it because you're a lesbian? No, it's because you're a rotten bitch.

  • I almost expected her to say "good" a third time. XD

  • I actually remember one previous ep (I dont remember the title or season) but I'm pretty sure it had Kate Moenning guest starring. Anyways...Rohm's character (Serena) was telling McCoy about how in colledge one of her close friends told her she was a lesbian...so it was a hint at the fact she was.

  • @MsPoppi90

I don't think her having a friend who came out is a hint that she herself is lesbo too.

  • HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

  • is this a show? whats the title? is it good????

  • @highlanderraven It's from Law & Order, midway thru Season 15 in early 2005. She was replaced by Annie Parisse as ADA Alexandra Borgia, who I must say was not as good.

  • i only saw this episode once and never again. Iwonder why not?I know! why it probebly offended somone.Eveyone gets offended by everything so we have to coddle so no one gets hurt. SICKNING!!!!!!!!!!

  • Arthur Branch : " Not at all....but....if you would've told me earlier, we could have worked something out, I'm sure...=) "

  • That last line about her being a lesbian, was that question really necessary? Please forgive me if this question offends anyone.

  • @amolapaz1

    It's entirely contrived.

  • Comment removed

  • Uh.. Alex is played by Stephanie March. Two completely different people.

  • @Vulcan1576 indeed. Stephanie March can actually act xD

  • @nhagelin1026 so true :)

  • Comment removed

  • i've never seen this episode on reruns. thanks for posting

  • Damn this show has fallen.

  • I remember seeing this one when it first aired & thinking, "What a horrible, anticlimatic ending! What does THAT ave to do with anything?"

  • I agree. This is by the far the most idiotic moment in the entire series.

  • Wha fuckery is dis?

  • LMAO

    "good... good"

  • no... it's because you're a bad actress

  • god her first full line in the scene is so drab and boring

  • @deanriam No, she is actually a good actress. It showed in the Ain't No Love episode.

  • omg LOL

  • "is this because im a lesbian". LMFAO thats was funny now we wait for one of SVU's people to get fired and say something awesome...

  • same thing from Olivia ;)

Then she comes back the next epi and gets with Alex :)

  • yes of course it is. she would suck ur geezer whizzer.

This i guess is the Lesbian out of left field.

Woa, wha , whe, how where did that come from

    now

    im interested in her character

Couldnt he say, ":were letting u go" why "sigh youre fired "

and shes like, oh ok thats alright moving rite along

just across the desk and shank the bastard

  • i actually loved this ending to her character. proves that one's sexuality isn't integral to one's job performance; the fact that she was gay never was mentioned because it was irrelevant.

  • She should have gone out in style... David Caruso style.

"Is it.... (puts on shades) because I'm a lesbian?"

  • Yeahhhhhhh!!!!

  • octo20, I laugh every time I see your comment because I can see it playing out just as you present it! Very clever!

  • @octo20 No, it's "Is it because... [gets shot in the stomach, fate left open until the next season/episode, Jill Hennessey/David Caruso style...]"

  • @octo20 YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!

  • @octo20 YEEAAAAAHHHHH!!!!!

  • Still hilarious.

  • Lots of Rohm bashers on here - Ive been a fan of Law since its inception - although I felt Rohm perhaps wasnt the best of ADA characters it never detracted my interest in the writing of the show...I think some of the comments on here are a bit harsh..However I was a bit surprised on how it was decided to rid the character from the show - I felt it was a bit disingenuous and I really didnt recall any mention of her sexual orientation in any prior episodes.

  • Now i love Dick Wolf but this was a bad choice in my opin!

  • hopefully benson from SVU does it with more grace

  • @lacostic lmfaoooooooooo

  • i think he said no a bit to much one no would have been fine

  • What a lame way for an actress & character to be written out!

  • she was better on angel

  • I don't recall she ever had any courtroom presence. She always sat there next to Jack McCoy and collected a paycheck. But Angie Harmon actually examined/cross-X'ed witnesses. Too bad Angie left the show.

"Is this because I'm a lesbian?" What if Fred said, "yes, I'm about to run for President and I need to fire lesbians to get votes". Of course he'd never admit as such and the question was prompted by Serena being shocked at the news. Still, it always hurts to get unexpectedly fired.

  • "No, of course not...no...no."

I think that is the funniest thing I've ever heard in my entire life.

  • Its only funny cuz she said it almost sarcastically.

  • HAHAHAHAHA

  • Gone and almost forgotten, but destined to live on in endless reruns on TNT. This wide-eyed 'actress' with the tedious monotone nearly ruined one of my favorite series, stumbling through cue cards and generally not acting as Assistant District Attorney Southerlyn for four seasons. Her final line upon getting fired was the only memorable one of her career: 'Is it because I'm a lesbian?' No, Ms. Rohm. It's because you have no talent." -Diane Holloway of the Austin American-Statesman

  • copy and paste merchant I see.

  • @Seanuk - thats why I added the source jackass

  • She was a terrible ADA she always disagreed with Jack and the DA.....well, she was a good actress, too bad she had to leave the show like this hahaha....funniest thing i've seen in a long time.

  • OMG!

  • Branch clearly started fantasising about her being a lesbian after she left the office...

  • I never laughed so hard in my life. Plus, everyone's comments on here just made me giggle.

    "No, of course not, no...no."

  • ...the hell?

Okay, I just saw this episode, and I wasn't paying much attention, and then I heard, "Is this because I'm a lesbian?" And I was like...woah. When did that happen??? Such a shame she's gone, though, I love her character...

  • I KNOW ME TOO!!! The fact that i just realized she was gay and it was her last episode i was so freakin mad. <3 Serena!!!!!

  • A lot of people didn't like her portrayal of Serena, but I never found her to be that bad. I liked her, Claire, and Abbie the best though

  • That was so fucking ridiculous! The ending of a legal show like Law & Order isn't supposed to make you fall out of your chair laughing. What was Dick Wolf smoking?

  • wtf???!!!..was that ever true?..how i wish she really is in real life....

  • TOTALLY!!! Actresses that play gay characters are never gay in real life. Its no fun, but i love Elisabeth she is so awesome.

  • ok THAT'S not true...Ellen played a Gay Character on her show....she's pretty gay.

  • Am I mistaken or didn't they have an earlier episode where she and Jack are leaving the office and she says something like, "Or she can be a Lesbian. Like me." It was supposed to be a joke, but it had a weird edge to it. And there were gay marriage episodes, where she behaved like she had something to lose. When I finally saw this scene I thought, "Oh, so they had an episode where she came out and said it?" I kind of just assumed she was...

  • I miss her, she was the best ADA on this show with Angie as a close second. But I remember reading an article about Elisabeth Rohm requesting that her character be fired because she's a lesbian

  • yeah. I watched an interview where she said something like...if my character is gonna get taken out i want her to be a lesbian.

  • Totally agree with you, shame she left.

  • hmm while i as a lesbian love GLBT characters...that was soo random.

  • Elisabeth Rohm is so sexy!!!

  • "Is this because I'm a lesbian?" *Record scratching noise* WHAT!?!

  • lesbians are the hotter ones cuz they dont have to deal with guyz.

  • dude they hella eliminated all the best characters - jerry orbach (so sad, he died right after quitting), ed greene, sam waterston now has a weak ass role, the new ADAs are AWFUL - that girl is pretty but doesn't do much besdies that and the head ADA has no balls. i used to love law & order :(

  • There were a couple of reasons they had to move Jerry from the mother show to TBJ:

    1) He already wasn't feeling well at that point so they moved him to a show where he wouldn't have to carry the burden of being a lead character. 2) He was pushing seventy and detectives could only get so old before they'd have mandatory retirement. On the other hand, there are DA investigators much older, so they could have him do that.

Maybe if he hadn't died, TBJ would have gone on longer.

  • WTF!!!!

  • I'm still like: WTF!?!?!? Where'd that come from!? Awesome TV moment right there. Historic.

  • I've always found this scene annoying. Very annoying. I love Serena Southerlyn, I like Elisabeth Rohm a lot, but urgh! They totally missed up the formula there. I could have lived better without this last line or I could, if they have ever mentioned before!

But hey, I've always liked like hell that Poker face Southerlyn had lol

  • SO Annoying!!!!!! I commend both of the actors in this scene for not breaking out laughing. that was a ridiculous line "its it because I'm a lesbian?"..."no no of course not"..."good good"

  • LOL

I bet they laughed about that later! Serena was such great character but they didn't invested so much on her so sometimes people blamed Elisabeth, but to tell the truth, she's a good actress! The thing with Serena is that you need to look beyond her lines, beyond her face.. lol so everyone is a shit at looking beyond things because no one could ever imagine she was a lesbian... until this hilarious scene

  • Aww Serena I Love You And I Love Tht Your Gay As Well xx

  • Does anyone know why they wrote Elizabeth Rohm out of the series?

  • yeah. one of the few times law and order missed the mark.

  • Hi, I' m deaf Korean and have a question.

    1. I know that there is ENDA(Employment Non- Discrimination Act) in US. ENDA incluses homesexuality?

  • ENDA isn't a law yet, but it could become one. It's intended to protect employees from being discriminated against due to sexual orientation (like being gay). The latest version also protects people with different gender identities (like being a transsexual).

  • Oh,Thank you for detailed reply.^0^

  • Oh, Thank you for detailed reply.^0^

  • I FUCKING LOVE THIS!!! WELL HER SHES AMAZING lol

  • WTF that was way the hell out there! I wondered where she went I liked her...

  • i think they should introduce this ending for all characters of the law and order franchise, including the men, they should have done it for ADA Novak definately, *novak gets fired for lying to her superiors*....'is this because i'm a lesbian' *nobody had any idea that she might be a lesbian...apart from maybe the softball playing* 'NO!?'....'good.'....'good.'...'good.'

  • OMG WOW I knew there was a reason I fell in love with her.

  • OMG WOW I knew there was a reason I was in loved with her

  • I always wanted to see this episode!

  • That was kind of a random and weird way to write out the character but there's no reason why she couldn't be a lesbian. She mentioned having boyfriends in high school but lots of lesbians have had boyfriends before they realized they were gay. She actually looks just like a friend of mine who is bisexual.
