I spent COUNTLESS hours literally just moving the record backwards and forwards. Mix Master Mike told me when I met him he practices for 6 hours everyday and didn't move on to a new technique until he'd mastered the one he was trying to do. No different from learning a piano, oboe or guitar. It's a musical instrument.
