@356pla The ceremonial side of Soldiery is a integral part of what we do as Service Men and Women. Sure it looks abit silly at some points but there are really good reasons for it. We down here in New Zealand are drilled when we join up with this phrase- The aim of Drill is to produce a soldier/ sailor/ airman who is proud, alert and obedient and to provide the basis of Team work.
@356pla and in the meantime make a diplomatic mess by turning down the invite from a NATO ally? I agree with you sir, about spending our money on equipment and facilities for our soldiers first and foremost..but unfortunately, in an international community, you must be respectful and take pride when foreign nations ask us to join in such fervor. Is it a waste of time and money ..of course..but its part of the game to keep our friends friendly...because in war, friends are good to have.
Nice to having you over :-)

A show piece. Toy soldiers. Frivolous waste of my dollars.
Buy the soldiers who are crawling through dirt more amunition and better equipment.

@356pla They are a frivolous waste of money but the Billions needlessly spent on the air force this year aren't?

@ricewave Trust? Just like when a city gives a regiment the freedom of the city so that regiment could march down its streets with bayonets fixed.
