I enjoyed watching your videos! I am fairly new to quilting but an accomplished seamstress. So far, I've machine quilted small quilts but looking to hand quilt a bargello I am working on. Interesting, you sew with your needle pointing left. I watched another video where the sewer pushed the needle towards her using the thimble on the middle finger. I would be more used to doing it your way but at least I know it's now wrong whatever way I choose. Thanks.
how kind of you to respond so quickly! I really enjoyed your tutorials - I'm very new to sewing in general, and you have made some things very clear. It was just that one thing was I was unsure about. Thank you so much!
okay, now this may be a stupid question, but is the backing pinned on? And are you quilting through the backing? It sounds as if you aren't quilting through the backing, only the batting, but the quilts I've seen have quilting on both sides, so now I'm confused. Otherwise, your videos are fantastic btw - I'd just like to see the back of your quilt that you're working on.
@Sootfoot5 -- yes, I'm quilting through the backing as well. It's just that in this video where I'm tying off the thread, the knot is buried in the layer of batting between the front and the backing so that you can't see it from either side. I used a patterned fabric for the back, so it was extremely hard to see the stitching on the back side, especially on camera.
I am new at quilting and your videos have been the most helpful so far. I am making a baby quilt for my first grandchild and I have never quilted a stitch before. Thanks for the help.
Congratulations! And I assure you that it looks better than you think it does. Everyone always notices their own mistakes more than anyone else ever will. :)
My goodness you are a lifesaver. I had read how to do this but couldn't figure it out till i saw you do it. This is my first quilt so it looks weird and awkward but.... it is mine..
my problem with hand quilting is that my stiches are too large and when i try to shorten them up, im not going through all the layers.

what kind of thread are you using when quilting?
cicadae 1 year ago
@cicadae I believe it's Guterman hand quilting thread. If you watch the entire series of videos, I say it in there somewhere!
