I only voted for him as a dj the 2nd time in a decade a few weeks ago so the whole thing of artists not needing fans is just so WRONG. A lot of us older fans grew up with REAL music and not doof doof Ibiza crap so if we don't want to go to these gigs we don't have to. I can't see taking any of this personally. I have my own life, and a performer/artist has their own life. And that's the way I like it. I don't love someone I don't actually know, and I don't expect them to love me. I can enjoy their art/creation, and I can even enjoy following their career/lives for periods of time, and call myself a 'fan', but I still don't feel that I really know them, so how can I love or hate any of them.
I also don't get some people's idea that a performer owes anything to the fans. They don't. They put out a product and you either buy it, listen to it, watch it, read it, whatever, or you don't. You owe them nothing, and they owe you nothing. It's not like when they put out something you like they signed a binding contract that they'll provide you with the same for the rest of their lives. These are human beings. They are free to live their lives, create, make a living as they please.
Actually, I hate to break it to you but artists need fans to make a living. If it wasn't for fans then an artist would make NO k=money and have no one to support their art!.. Yes, but George shouldn't really care!.... He was known by the whole world first as a singer and song writer. If some of the older fans don't want to go to a dj gig to hear doof doof all night then that is their choice if they only want to go to the singing gigs and listen to G. As I said, there are some fans that go to both and some that are selective. It's like when George goes to see Bowie live, he prefers the Ziggy period which is fine as it's all about personal choice

I think we agree that the 80's for him are tied into a lot of heavy baggage that's not necessary related to the music of the times. The question always is, 'Don't you miss the 80's?" That just seems like a silly question to me considering everything he went through then. I still think it's strange for anyone to miss a decade or era.

I would hike up taxes for one day make taxes one percent higher for two days or something to bring in revenue. People generally dont care they are on vacation.One day shouldnt hurt too much. that could bring in a buck or two.I would impose a one weekend a month tax on Cruise ships boarding on the island. all for a dollar weekend.

I also don't get why he says in dance music you have freedom! In clubs, you have to play the same music, house thumping! There's no freedom or diversity in that. In a pop band, you can do ballads, rock, reggae, R&B anything you want so to me there's more freedom in pop.

The Crying Game is good because even though it's a cover a lot of people never heard the original song. If he's going to do covers, choose something interesting and different. I only voted for him as a dj the 2nd time in a decade a few weeks ago so the whole thing of artists not needing fans is just so WRONG. As if that was the case then why would George be asking fans to vote for him? A lot of us older fans grew up with REAL music and not doof doof Ibiza crap so if we don't want to go to these gigs we don't have to. Wouldn't we rather spend our money on the music he makes or for general living? And a lot of the older fans are not clubbing every night anymore like the younger dj fans. I can't see taking any of this personally. I have my own life, and a performer/artist has their own life. And that's the way I like it. I don't love someone I don't actually know, and I don't expect them to love me. I can enjoy their art/creation, and I can even enjoy following their career/lives for periods of time, and call myself a 'fan', but I still don't feel that I really know them, so how can I love or hate any of them.

I also don't get some people's idea that a performer owes anything to the fans. They don't. They put out a product and you either buy it, listen to it, watch it, read it, whatever, or you don't. You owe them nothing, and they owe you nothing. It's not like when they put out something you like they signed a binding contract that they'll provide you with the same for the rest of their lives. These are human beings. They are free to live their lives, create, make a living as they please.

Yes, but George shouldn't really care!.... He was known by the whole world first as a singer and song writer. If some of the older fans don't want to go to a dj gig to hear doof doof all night then that is their choice if they only want to go to the singing gigs and listen to G. As I said, there are some fans that go to both and some that are selective. It's like when George goes to see Bowie live, he prefers the Ziggy period which is fine as it's all about personal choice

I think we agree that the 80's for him are tied into a lot of heavy baggage that's not necessary related to the music of the times. The question always is, 'Don't you miss the 80's?" That just seems like a silly question to me considering everything he went through then. I still think it's strange for anyone to miss a decade or era.
