I think SH can be interpreted through psychoanalysis. I always thought that the monsters represent the violent and repressed part of our mind called ES (IT). It is the darkest zone of our uncosciuos, made of violent and primordial sexual desires that are gradually and painfully hidden, controlled and repressed during man's growth. I thought Homecoming was alright, but it lost some of the atmosphere and reduced Pyramid Head to blatant fanservice. SH4 was utter balls, and SH3 was pretty good but somewhat lacking.

But SH2 was the pinnacle of the series. It was both absolutely fucking terrifying in it's presentation and utterly beautiful in it's symbolism. It's a masterpiece.
