Based on the rather sudden stop and the grade I would say the train "went into emergency". Perhaps a gladhand connection between two cars came loose and dumped all the brake air pressure forcing the train to an uncommanded stop.
Amazing catch - I love the weather, the lighting, and the sound of the 70M-2 spooling up as it got moving again. I'm having flashbacks to when the rear helpers of a train stopped right in front of me on Horseshoe back in August '94, except you were fortunate enough to catch a similar incident in high def! Unless you cut out an entire train, it doesn't appear to me that the missing 3 minutes affected the overall story at all.
Or as I watch it once again, perhaps she just breaks traction and the wheels spin.Perhaps that causes the reve limiter and computer too put on the brakes.
@canadiantimberwolf1 No, at 0:39, the train's brakes went into emergency. I'm guessing it had something to do with the maintenance crew in the truck between tracks 1 and 2. Either the train crew missed or forgot that a work crew would be there, the work crew didn't have permission to be on the tracks yet, or the crew was putting up the slow order boards for their work area and the engineer panicked and went into emergency.
@chatanugadotorg It never stops to amaze me when even in a controlled emergency stop, just how fast they can stop. Although the train was doing about 30 MPH too see one hit the brakes at top end, unreal. Thank you for the return reply.
@canadiantimberwolf1 Keep in mind, too, that the train's going uphill around the Curve. While the grade lessens at the Curve, it is still close to a 2% grade, which is pretty steep for trains. Undoubtedly, that and the fact that it was a train of lighter intermodal cars allowed for it to stop quickly.
iusetno,I love the run of this locomotive on The horseshoe.I can't help but think he was showng off a bit and she just over reved (If that is possible as I am not anengineer) and the safety come on.When you see the lococoming up you can certainly hear the power turn on and the sand and dirt frm below. This is one of my favorites. am Canadian and I would love too gt down there for a visit one day.
Thank you for your compliments and glad you enjoyed watching my videos as much as i did videoing them. I can't answer your questions. I still only run old switchers from 1958 or older. We don't have anything like what they have out now , not even close.
Awesome video. 5*****

@ChamplainDivision Could be or the engineer could have dumped the air. Thank you for watching.

5* Excellant Video Its a pain when you have to edit out part of a video due to the 10 min rule.

Thanks you very much Walter. It is a pain. One clip was just over 10 minutes and it was rejected. I'm going to rework it somehow.
