@brutalprince666, sure. I've tried it a few times. Not as smooth as with the clutch. I try to use both brakes to downshift and sometimes drag the rear brake as I blip the engine.
Thank you for clarifying the proper braking percentage. I wanted to smack my roommate (new rider, ballsy, stupid, inexperienced, and cocky) when he refused this was the truth.
Ideally, you should never brake while turning. It's recommended that you perform the necessary braking (and downshifting) prior to entering the turn. Maintain a safe speed through the turn and accelerate as you finish the turn.
@SoldierCyfix If you need/have to stop on a corner you should drop a gear or two, release the clutch to activate engine braking, slightly apply the front brake but not much. You also apply the rear but more rear should be applied than front. Think of it this way: If the rear tyre locks up and slides its manageable. However, if the front locks up and slides its game over.
wow, sounds dangerous. downshifting twice and releasing the clutch is gona cause the rear wheel to lock then engine to stall (if clutch is not pulled after wheel lock)
i think i understand your concept, but its a risky last minute decision move
@SoldierCyfix You cant stall an engine at speed. If you check out any race track cornering videos (like the MCN braking video) you'll see exactly what I mean by down shifting quickly so as to get the most out of engine braking.
Never used my rear brake lol.. 'cept on a parking lot to prevent bike going backwards ... but then again i got ss bike, so it'd be rather dangerous to use rear brake anyway. Unless at a very low speed.
Down-shifting while braking can be done safely and will get easier with practice. On the other hand, I would not recommend shifting gears (or braking) while turning as bike could possibly lose traction. Ideally, proper braking and gear shifting should be done prior to entering a turn.
