@MsRozzee "round them up" - lol, you cannot be serious? Australia is millions and millions of square kilometers. You can drive for days without seeing a single kangaroo. Mustering or rounding them up is extremely stressful for feral horses. Many die from shock, the RSPCA has even commented that mustering is cruel amd that shooting them is more humane.
Geild the colts. Far better than the trauma of transport then the knackery and I'm sick to death of people over breeding and throwing their older horses away. Why, because they don't have anymore use for them. They all contribute to there being too many horses and not enough homes. Heavily Tax the bastards that breed.
@MsRozzee are you going to geild half a MILLION feral horses? How are you going to heavily tax feral horses for breeding? These feral horses are NOT from people breeding horses too much, they are from some horses that were left here hundreds of years ago. That is why we shoot them dead from helicopters, it's the most humane thing to do for the horses and for the environment.
@MsRozzee SaveAustralia you seen to have a go at every responce that you don't agree with. Yes geild the colts and over time what a difference that would make to the numbers. And as for taxing breeders, if you read it properly I was referring to people you idiot not the brumbies. If you think shooting horses from a helicopter is humane there is something wrong with you or your father is the helicopter pilot. Take another look and listen to this girls video, idiot.
hi. every year we go to mount Kosciusko national park in nsw and still go save about 15 foals and take them home and brake them in . if you go to my youtube i have 2 vids for them :D in 2009 they were still shooting from helicopters :/ i saw it. it is so sad so i decided to take things in to my own hands.
@nomerae often a horse has a worse life if it´s domesticated. When you look in a the eyes of a wild horse you see another brillant view. Often horses were broken afer capture. In the beatiful vid Cloud the woman rides a broken horse fron this wild herd too. It was so strange to look this, because she makes the wonderful film but she´s nothing realize the sadness of her own horse it was captured from the wild
@Kore1960 I am the proud owner of bumbys and have the light full experienc of braking in they definantly have a diffrent mind frame all together i have also been able to witness them in there beautie in the wild i definantly agree with u.
@nomerae yes, I think there exists a lot of people, they are nice to them. I want only say, that´s often horse haven´t a nice life by humans, and for a horse it was free it´s often very hard...
@nomerae BECASUE THEY HAVE AS MUCH RIGHT AS ANYONE ELSE
!!! they live here to when we go to capture them we are on there land brumbies are the heart and soul of australia take the brumbies away what would we be without them. Horses are the amazing creatures of the outback they should be protected they are not feral and how are they damaging the enviroment the brumbies are the least or our problem instead of trying to capture them we should focusing on more important things
@21cs16311 when u have idiots that wana shoot them cause they can its better to domesticate what can be. i no its not allways feisable and its costly but there are better options then shooting em. I dont no how u an call me an idiot when im atleast standing up for them insead of living with my head in the sand like u. They do have more right to be here then most of us and what exactlydo u mean you people.
@nomerae people don't care about that. all they care about is "pretty animals are being victemized" castration and adoption is as mean as killing them. They want these horses to live free as if they were kangaroo or wombat.
@jukka2311 lol, are you going to catch and domesticate 500,000 feral horses that are spread out over 7 million square kilometres and put them into a sanctuary?
@kelly2357 how about get rid of all white non native people too they do more damage then horses they do interrupt the balanceof the land starting with you
@cm73520 well actually, the native people, that have been here THOUSANDS of years before horses suffer the most from from the effects of non-native species invasion and destruction. Native people do very little to interrupt the balance of nature. Your argument is flawed sorry.
@Kelly2357 well your so called naitive people that like to burn everything that burns in order to eat every mamall and reptile they could get they hands on did interrrupt the balance of nature before them australia was a very different place . we all aware what horses have done for us . there will always be a place in my heart for them ..................
It is called a feral horse for a reason. It is FERAL, which inherantly means the species is harmful to the environment. Feral animals do untold amounts of damage to crops, native habitat and they transmit diseases to native animals that they would not come into contact with otherwise. Feral animals cause MILLIONS of dollars of damage each year
Humans cause considerable damage to the environment, including massive deforestation, erosion of major tracts of land, destruction of waterways, pollution of the water supply, pollution of the oceans and the air, extinction of many other species, spreading disease and pestilence all over the planet, discharge of nuclear waste.... need I go on?
Horses, or humans, who are most harmful?
This learned fool needs to consider this before spouting his spammy crap here.
Feral horses cause considerable damage to the natural environment, including increased erosion of soil and waterways, increased spread of weeds, trampling of native vegetation, consumption of native seedlings leading to reduced biodiversity, sedimentation of waterways and water bodies, destruction of infrastructure, competition with native species and domestic cattle for resources, and spread of disease and parasites to native species. They also displace kangaroos by removing food and shelter
I may be from America...but if I had enough money and enough volunteers, I would do what ever I could to help stop this horrible tragedy. Shame on the government!
If you were much of a biologist you would understand the impact the feral horses have on the environment. Affecting other species that should not otherwise have been affected.
@ChrisDog000 - They are just kids, they do not understand that feral horses are directly threatening already endangered native animals as well as whole eco-systems. They would rather save a feral horses life over the last remaining Potoroo. They only need to google "Feral Horse Wildlife" to see the facts.
To not allow anyone to claim and train/own one, rather slay them and leave them for dead is...in fact, beyond hateful. I hope there is a special place in hell for those that do these things to these beautiful, innocent, and defenseless creatures. There are a lot of so-called humans that are running loose in this world that need euthanised!!! Life is so precious... especially ones that are so innocent :)
austrailia is at the point america was at a couple years ago. shooting wild mustangs...its just disgusting. america still rounds them up, and were still working on it. i wish everyone would realize that killing is not the answer.
shooting them from a helicopter it the only way to control them, you think of another you cant bait them and you can dart them otherwise what would you do with them if the shooters used bigger 50 cal guns that would blow a hole rite through the horse so if they have to die that way so be it they are only animals and there is no other way
Thats really sad.Funny where Youtube can lead you. I was just looking up the movie Appalosa and I ended here.. I'm not even the biggest animal lover but I can't stand to hear something like this. I hate the fact that so many dogs and cats are euthanized here in the USA. Thanks to the Human society & others there are more adoptions. I hope something has changed since this video was made.
@lpride1 - yeh people just don't handle things the way they should. Unfortunately it hasn't changed over here yet.. they just keep the cullings away from the press. but they still happen :(
Practical to just let hunters get rid of them free of charge instead of wasting govt money, not only do hunters help get rid of feral animals, but make money for the govt too with licensing, permits ect.
That not right.Herd them casterate all males. It is mean to mame and ruine cause your inconciderate of life by nature.Adoption would work if we had no cars. You see we are not any longer dependant on horse. But we do owe them decancy.
shooting is the only way because catching males and chooping rhier nuts off would cost to much and if you would only do it to a few of them they are still goign to breed. they will not died out because atm there are to many and they will juat keep breading
There has to be a better way than culling that way. Its cruel. And I can't believe the RSPCA supported it. Sure we can't let there numbers to get to uncontrollable levels and I know they damage the environment but surely there is a better way!
they are so fit, and hardly any of the wold horse I have seen so far had major morphological defect! it is a shame the oz government rather likes to shoot them than to give them a chance and let people get one to save it. Better, they should let them live, their only explanation is water and food shortage due to the massive production of COWS AND SHEEP THEY EXPORT therefore anything "feral" is in concurrence on thefood line (of money making..)
@BuellF - I have a few friends that own brumbies and their parents have said they wouldn't go for any other type of horse after owning one. Just goes to show how good they can be. You're welcome :) thankyou for taking the time to support it
a great video you seem to have definitely done your research. I totally agree with it and I was only 1hr away from that horrific NSW shooting. I heard about it on tv when it was too late it had me in absolute tears.
There is one thing that may make you feel better. Due to some very caring and active groups and sanctuaries brumbies as a breed will never become extinct. But we still need to protect the wild ones.
They may not have come from Aus but theyve been here long enough to be native
@ArchAngelRescues - Thankyou, yeh I put quite a few hours of research into it. That would have been horrible :( I only read about it and even THAT had me in tears.
I'm glad they wont ever be extinct... but it's still horrible that they do this to them. We're not native to Australia so why aren't we classed as feral?
Brumbies doesn't derves to died... :( they're beautiful horses on Austrlia. why can't anyone understand that HORSES has a life and a future? for thoses who THINK horses are crazy and insane animals? they're not... SOME that really nice and loving. and Some aren't...For the ones that cares they WILL help. for the ones that doesn't. they don't care.
Horses depend on our love, trust, friendship, care, faith, courage and most of all freedom.
They SHOULD stop slaughtering them. they did nothing WRONG.
have u heard about that cul there doing now they r going to round up to about 5 000 a year send themto SA then from there ship them to france and other european countries for food i hate it
@Horseloverkooder I don't think it is exactly France... Most "horse meat" company are Belgian. Beware that most horse meat consumption is in southern europe, especially Italy and Slovenia + neighboors.. Belgian's attitude toward horses is a shame for the meat market, it has long been protested against. However, I tried to save a horse here in France a man had in his field (he is a sort of relay for horses to gain weight before going to the slaughter house), I came to see the horse to enquire
@Horseloverkooder (2nd part) and the man told me it is too late, it was gone in "the truck" two days ago.. well that truck aimed to Italy. He gets horses from breeding regions in France or truck from Poland, or race horses, and once they are a bit fed, they leave to Italy for the slaughter house. That is now the main market in Europe, though the companies (that you find in South America too) are belgian. It is a shame, I saved 3 horses myself already, can't help them all unfortunately
@Horseloverkooder Just one last point, I saw in Slovenia a shop (Ljubljana) called the HOT HORSE. I was wondering what it was, well, just a normal snack food place like any hotdog dealer, except that all meat here was from horses... I was horrified how normal it was to hear as an explain to that "a man had an old horse and he decided to give him a nice role as to turn him into sandwiches so the horse could provide food for a quantity of person, which is pretty nice to do for a old horse" beuah!
@Tashibaify - You're welcome, glad it helped you :) I think it's great you've done a similar assignment. Yes I did get a good mark, but I only used school as an excuse to make this. I'd been wanting to make a video about it for a while and the assignment just gave me the perfect opportunity
Australia has the largest population of wild horses in the world. I love horses, I own horses and I hate to see Brumbies shot. How ever they are considered a pest, they were introduced. Their hard hooves destroy the natural lands of Australia since it developed without hard hoofed animals until they were brought in. Much like the camels, their hooves destroy precious grasses and plant life for native animals to feed, they destroy farmers crops amongst a large list of other things.
A lot of our native animal species are struggling to survive because they don't have enough food due to the Brumbies and with the country in drought things are only getting harder, especially for our farmers. I understand we all love these animals but they are destroying the land and our native animals. Their numbers have become intolerable for our lands.
@stickybeak4eva - we do cull wild cattle, but not in the same numbers as feral horses (as there are no where near as many) ...wild cattle are also called feral buffalo and compete with native animals for food/water and erode lands - just as any hard hoolfed feral animal would do - camel, horse, donkey, buffalo, goat, deer, boar... that is why anybody in Australia is allowed to kill as many feral animals as they wish, even in native forests.
For those interested, on facebook saveourbrumbiesSA, there is an entry made by Juli Stanley. She is working to start a Ride to bring public awareness to the plight of the Brumbies. She is in Port Augusta, Australia; please check her facebook out.
Great video! The problem here is that there are more horses than adoptive homes. If someone can come up with a better way to cull them, please, let the Government know.
@mtardiff - Thankyou. I had an address somewhere to write to the government, however I've misplaced it. But i'm sure if anyone wants to contact the government (and do not hesitate to!) you should be able to find the address on the net
this an amazing video..i didnt know about this at all! its so cruel and i wonder how pple could do that? thats for sharing this!!! if i was your teacher i would give u and A+
@horseluver101ily Feral horses (Brumbies) cause a significant amount of environmental damage. Feral horses endanger native wildlife. Because of their weight, many times they will collapse wildlife burrows. They also consume large amounts of vegetation, depriving native wildlife. They interrupt the balance of the land and continually compete with native wildlife, which may eventually drive them to EXTINCTION!
PLEASE Save Australia's NATIVE wildlife, and REMOVE the feral horses!
@Kelly2357 agree, as 'cute' and 'precious' as these wild horses are... they are feral, and they are invasive. The Australian government classes them as a 'serious pest' due to the damage they cause to other native animals habitats, native animals that are already on the brink of extinction!
@OzAnimals5 And brumbys too are under threat. They are now native- they have been there for so long. Who decided what animals can be killed and which ones are more important and must be protected? It's complete hipocracy. And so what if they are "feral", it's called being WILD AND FREE. They have just as much right to a life in the wild as any other animal. And humans do much more damage to the land and native animals, by ruining their natural habitat.
wats stupid is i dought theres 10000 wild horses in australia i live perth wat i rekon is if they really cnt keep them pwn them break them and make thim in to ridable horse theyd make great stoick horses 2
with respect and kindness, even the US gov. is guilty of this sort of thing all because of greed. they try and push their veiws in the schools and this tactic is working. we as the people should speak up against this sort of thing, make pettions, get people to march, make vchange happen!
did you know there is actually a brumby rescue in armidale, nsw they need all the donations they can get to go to queensland and bring brumbys to their rescue and then they sell them but they also have a brumby stud
so go cheek out the website @ savethebrumbiesaustralia
We have the same problem here in the States since Obama repealed the executive order by Bush prohibiting the capture and sale of wild mustangs to meat-packers in Canada and Mexico. Then the horse meat is labeled as "beef", shipped back into the United States and sold to unsuspecting consumers as beef. Ten, of course, the freed up range can be sold off by the government to pay all the debt Obama is running up. The mustang will be extinct in a few years under this Obama policy.
@Sonoraman Its incredible just what some people will post on YouTube, or how gullible the public is when it comes to animals, esp. horses. I really have no idea where you get your facts from, but the horses slaughtered in Canada are NOT labelled as beef & sold back to the US (this is the most laughable of the latest US-based anti-Canadian beef propaganda that I have heard thus far!). Anyone who believes your claim is just as ignorant & misinformed as you are.
this blows, i just wrote a great comment and then realised that your only allowed too write minimal santences, but i agree that they shouldnt cull the brumbies the way they do, i have chased and caught them since i was about 8 yrs old, and rode in a ute when i was younger and witnessed them in the mountains. I believe they are an important part of our Australian heritage and should be conserved, but i dont like how foreigners throw there 2 cents in believing they know the best remedy!!!!
For those who don't know, a brumby is an australian wild or feral horse. Basically an australian mustang, but anyway WE MUST DO SOMETHING. A constant check should be kept on the brumbies that does not involve killing, why can't the government make sure the horses are put up for adoption and I thought the RSPCA was supposed to HELP ANIMALS!
Yeh, the RSPCA doesn't WANT to, yet they still approve it... if you live in Australia watch the RSPCA Animal Rescue on Channel 7 at 7:30 this coming Tuesday (29th Sep) they're gonna show some rounding up on there :)
@BuellF sorry, when I meant the video available I meant the Animal Rescue program from RSPCA that you mentionned on channel 7 in Oz (11months ago :/)
And just to show you what I meant about the market of horse meat, it is very important in Asia and Southern Europe. I am not saying French people don't eat horse meat, but they eat less than what anglosaxon countries believe they do.
Please watch the two videos I give you the link to.
Hope you'll find a way to protect the beautifull brumbie.
@SaphiraHorse while there is a certain kind of merit with adoption, the issue is that there is a higher population of feral horses in australia then there is people. so not practical. and unlike the americas, where horses were wiped out, and then reintroduced. The australia cant cope with large animals. the biggest native animal was the red kangeroo, now its now the 12th. australian has a boom and bust period, and their is no cull system that is as ruthless as a drought.
Australia has more wild horses than any other country. I love Brumbies but I understand the devastating effect they have had on our lands. Horses are not native so our soils don't handle their hard hooves well which makes competition for food hard for a lot of our native animals. But I do believe there are surely other ways we could help control their numbers rather than slaughter.
i lived in Australia for my whole life and i love horses. i love the country too and now im in america and i hate it here. i agree with you. we need to do something!
rspca suck dont do a thing my horses is a brumby he was on his way to be slaughtered with the rest of his heard when the victorian brumby association saved them all.

They also displace kangaroos by removing food and shelter

There is one thing that may make you feel better. Due to some very caring and active groups and sanctuaries brumbies as a breed will never become extinct. But we still need to protect the wild ones.
They may not have come from Aus but theyve been here long enough to be native

Horseloverkooder 1 year ago
@Horseloverkooder I don't think it is exactly France... Most "horse meat" company are Belgian. Beware that most horse meat consumption is in southern europe, especially Italy and Slovenia + neighboors.. Belgian's attitude toward horses is a shame for the meat market, it has long been protested against. However, I tried to save a horse here in France a man had in his field (he is a sort of relay for horses to gain weight before going to the slaughter house), I came to see the horse to enquire
BuellF 1 year ago

OzAnimals5 6 months ago 4
@OzAnimals5 And brumbys too are under threat. They are now native- they have been there for so long. Who decided what animals can be killed and which ones are more important and must be protected? It's complete hipocracy. And so what if they are "feral", it's called being WILD AND FREE. They have just as much right to a life in the wild as any other animal. And humans do much more damage to the land and native animals, by ruining their natural habitat.

Sonoraman 1 year ago
@Sonoraman Its incredible just what some people will post on YouTube, or how gullible the public is when it comes to animals, esp. horses. I really have no idea where you get your facts from, but the horses slaughtered in Canada are NOT labelled as beef & sold back to the US (this is the most laughable of the latest US-based anti-Canadian beef propaganda that I have heard thus far!). Anyone who believes your claim is just as ignorant & misinformed as you are.

SaphiraHorse 2 years ago 6

OMG...this is as bad as Japan killing dolphins unmercilfully!
Horses should be a protected species, as they are so inquisitive & forgiving. Not to forget beautiful.
